Chapter 2: The Longest Night.

     The night sure felt like the longest for Swara when sleep eluded her. While her mind replayed back all the harsh words she threw at her husband for his role in Laksh disappearance.

   Yes she knew she crossed the line back that day but till yesterday it was an battle of who was more wrong and till yesterday her mind answered that it was her husband for being the one who put such an stupid condition not just one but two such stupid conditions.

The first one being him asking her not to try and fix the family. That was next to impossible, it not in her nature to stand aside and let people break apart.And he of all should be the one who stood by her instead of asking her to not help their family.

     And while she did break his promise.She did reunite the family a fact he refused to acknowledge when he decides to say such harsh full words to her . And just like that he told her their relation is no more. A fact she still cant get over.

     No matter whatever crime she did ,her one solid faith is that he will be their for her always. And that faith shattered that day . So yes she crossed her line when Laksh went missing, she decided to hurt him not intentionally of course but part of her brain wanted to inflict the pain she experienced during that one phone call and she did hurt him by her words.

    But what she didnt expect was his second condition . That one where he asked her to stay or forget ever coming back. For everyone it looked like she choose her sister over him and she very well cant blame anyone for that.

   Sure it did look like that but no the reason she walked away that day was not for her sister but because once again he broke her faith. Even if he was angry ,even if he was hurt . She couldnt fathom him telling her that she will not be welcomed back in to his life if she walked out.

She always prided herself with the fact that she was his weakness. She knew the intensity of his love for her and that was one of the reason she fell in love with him because she trusted his love for her and that was why even when the wounds inflicted by laksh lack of trust in her love was still fresh she fell in love with him because she believed he would always love her.

       And She knew even if anyone and everyone fails her, he will be beside her.But he broke her faith in him when he broke her heart twice. And so she stayed away from him for 6 months.  Because she was hurt by his words. Not realising in the least that her actions and her words pushed him to that extent.

Well that was till yesterday but tonight that not the case.  Tonight she was plagued by the events that happened in their house. The words of Uttara supposed MIL still ringing in her ears.  And Her Husband still standing by her side like an rock as always even when just few hours ago he broke her in the worst way by asking her to move on with Nikhil .
But when she was at her worst he stood by her and he choose her over his sister.

And that when she remembered where she went wrong. She gave importance to his words ,his words of saying there were over. His words that said you cant step back in to this house if you walked away. His words and failed to see that he never meant those words.

    Because for him ,she was and will always be his wife. Even when the world doesnt recognize her as his wife anymore. To him she will always be Mrs Swara Sanskar Maheshwari. A fact she was blind too till that moment.

    And when the realization hit ,she broke into tears at her foolishness for getting hurt by his words and hurting him by her words. Instead of once trying to look behind his words.

   Because if she did she would have find out the hurt behind those words. And then came regret when she realized it was she who gave up on their relationship because she was hurt and not him.

  She walked out of the house because she was hurt but in her hurt it was she who closed the doors of happiness in their life. So in the end her 6 months battle of who was more wrong was fruitless because it doesn't matter who was more wrong.

Because what mattered was who gave up first. And the answer was glaring at her and she cant deny it anymore.

With those thoughts fresh in her mind.Sleep has eluded her and then came the call.  She was kind of expecting it, given the day events it was expected .

  But right now she didnt know if she could handle his words. His piercing words that might crush her already broken heart.So with an heavy heart she answered the call. And her hello went unanswered for awhile.And she really was not in the mood to make him talk either.

    So she just listened and kept being silent.And when he refused to speak an word for over five minutes she was about to hang up.Just then his voice rang out.

" Giving up just like that .It not even been five minutes Mrs Swara Sanskar Maheshwari"his drunken voice slightly slurred greeted her .

Just like she knew that he was on the other side of the call.  It is expected that he knew she was about to hang up.The distance couldnt erase their unexplainable connection .

  "  I thought you were not going to say anything today"She replied back ,her voice lost the usual anger at his drunkenness .

  " I got plenty to say, Why wouldnt i have anything to say."he spoke up with a humourless laugh

" Then speak up, I will listen "she answered back While in her mind she consoled herself she deserve to hear those cruel words.

After another five minutes of silence.He spoke up. Which made Swara wish he spoke those cruel words instead.Because nothing could break her heart more than his words.

  " If you cared for me, Why did you leave me.Why. Just how can you walk away from my life.Answer me."he asked her and Swara knew there is nothing she can say to make it right.

    But the words were out even before she could held back, the crushing guilt that suppressed her all through the night pushed her to utter those words in hopes that she might be forgiven .

  " I am sorry Sanskar.I am so sorry."she spoke up

" What to do Swara.It too late." He answered back and then the call ended leaving swara more broken than before.

  He was right it was too late for them. Fresh tears threatened to spill now at the realization, She retreated back to her room quickly before anyone else notice her like that.

Sanskar Maheshwari reached for another glass of wine. He lost count on the number of glass he drank tonight.He laughed at his fate.For always snatching away his happiness from him.

First it was Kavita, Then he thanked his stars for giving Swara in his life.And once again his fate, she walked away from his life. Leaving him in more despair than before.

Swara the memories of her haunts him. She was someone he never dreamt to be lucky enough to have in her life. When his love was termed as an act of betrayal, when she accused him of being happy at their forced wedding. When she walked away from his life because kavita entered, when she fell of the cliff .

   Their were countless moments he felt like he lost her. Countless moments when he felt like she will never be part of his life.But against all odd she fell in love with him, against all odd she came back from the dead, against all odds she married him again even to the point of running away from jail.

     And just when he felt like nothing and no one can seperate them. She walked away from their life on her own.  There was no kavita,no sahil and no rajat this time , She walked away from his life on her own.

And just like that his happiness was snatched away from him forever. No matter how much he drink the memories of her wont fade away .But still he would drink one more glass in an attempt to see if it helps and just like that entire bottle was empty.

     And he drifted to sleep due to the effects of it and even is dreams haunt him by showing him the memories of his life with her. An just like that he realized their is no happiness left for him in this lifetime. Not without her..
