Chapter 13: Half-Blood
With her heartbeats battering against her chest, she walked down the empty roads alone while the tears were dripping down her eyes. Having to know her father was behind her mother's death was indeed an unbearable news for her to endure, she couldn't remember her childhood memories but assumed her mother had passed away due to some other reason and that's why Shekhar had instantly remarried his first love. She never assumed her father to kill her mother however the thought remained in her mind that her father might have been the reason behind her mothers death.
She swallowed and ignored the phone calls, feeling her heart rapidly beat, at last she broke down, crying vigorously, not even bothering to stop. She wanted to yell, scream and shout, but her heart was too broken for that, all she wanted to do now was cry, not in front of anyone but herself. How must've her poor heart felt after the revelation was put forth that her father had killed her mother, the same father who had treated her like a piece of dirt.
But at times her mind wondered why would her father do such a thing and the only way she had was to confront him about it.
**
Sheesh and Sahil had walked away, leaving Sanskaar on his own. He took a deep breath, closing his phone and sliding it down his pocket, thinking about Swara. Knowing what he had told Swara must've shattered her yet, he is helpless as she can't even stand his face, he knows he wronged her and now wanted to rectify it, through the challenge.
Though he feels this challenge is nothing compared to what he had did, he still has the hope that she would forgive him. He wasn't sure why he was feeling such a void after she had expressed her hate for him and after his friends had distanced. He sometimes feels the guilt overflowing each time he reminds himself why they hate him so much.
As he walked down to the main road, a car stops in front of him. The glass window, in front of his face, slides down as Durga Prasad blinked at him.
"What are you doing here all by yourself?"
"I. . . I was, just here for a walk."
"Why this far?"
"I was just thinking, I didn't realise the distance I had made."
Durga Prasad examined his nervousness and shook his head. "Okay, take a seat and we will go together." Sanskaar made his way towards the other side and opened the door.
He inhaled a deep breath and slid in, keeping his posture and expressions normal.
**
"Oh god, where is this girl!"
"Shekhar, calm down. She should be coming." Nayonika assured as she keeps her hand on his shoulder.
"How can she leave without telling!" He sighed, being disappointed rather than being worried.
Sameer gave up after calling her a numerous of time. He had started to worry. "She's not picking up. What if Jayant took her or something."
"Why would Jayant do that? I would've known if that was the case." Shekhar responds and Sameer looks at him. "Yeah, like Jayant is your security or assistant that would make an appointment with you before kidnapping." Sameer answered back and Shekhar shakes his head in disbelief.
"Sameer! Can't you see your Papa is worried."
"About her or about the deal with Jayant?" Sameer questioned and Shekhar gritted his teeth in anger while Nayonika sighed.
"Don't loosen the tongue in front of the person who taught you how to speak!" Shekhar answers back while raising his finger at him.
"Okay. Sorry Mom." Sameer apologised and looked at Nayonika. Nayonika looked at Shekhar, who was glancing at Sameer in disbelief.
"What is wrong with you? What has that girl fed you that you're totally on her side and against me?"
"She didn't feed me anything Dad, she just made me realise that she HAD a brother, who never cared for her and now, when I feel like a brother. You're saying I'm going against you?"
Shekhar sighed, clenching his fist at the stupidity Sameer was showing him. "Why? She's not even your biological sister!"
"You're right, she isn't. She's my half sister cause we share the same father but you Dad, she's your biological daughter, a part of you just like the way I am, she's your blood. So why do you treat her indifferent? Why do you keep her away from us? Why do you make me wanna treat her like shit? Why? Why do you even get happiness seeing her in pain?" Shekhar looked away, deaf to hear the truth as Sameer had bombarded his 'why' at him.
"The only time I saw her pain was when she cried after the video incident, I felt like a brother. YOU fed me so much that from all those years, her cries and pain had been a mere drama for me. You even told me she's jealous of me being your favourite at the time she took a chocolate bar. You made me hate her! I was so blinded by you that I didn't see the pain you were giving her! You treated her like a side dog for all her life and took decisions that never made her happy! Not only all that, you made me a shittiest brother that no one would ever ask for!"
"Sameer!" Shekhar growled, staring at Sameer angrily.
"If I was free to do whatever I want then why wasn't she? Why was she treated like a brought slave and I was treated like a king, despite me being the one no one would've probably accepted if you didn't marry my Mum."
"Because I never wanted her! She was a compulsion for me in order to gain the property. I loved your mother and wanted to marry her but my father never accepted her, after all he was a prestigious person. He forced me to marry Swara's mother and after he had passed away, I was going to file a divorce but my father turned out to be a ruthless man, he had mentioned that if I have a heir that would be delivered from Swara's mother's womb, then I'd be able to have access to the property. So I waited and after my wait was over, I took Swara and married Nayonika." Shekhar shouted, revealing the bitter truth of his life.
"After killing my mother." Shekhar, Nayonika and Sameer look at the entrance, seeing Swara walk inside in a broken state.
"I should've guessed. You went to the Maheshwari's didn't you? They're liars and all they do is lie, god knows why they hate me but how can you be so thick to believe their lie? I did not kill her! How many times do I have to scream this. She fell down the stairs."
"How did she fall down?"
Shekhar released an irritated sigh, controlling his volcanic anger, arguing with two of them was becoming a stress, first Sameer was on his back and now Swara.
"She SLIPPED!"
"Th. . . Then why are they saying you killed her?"
"God Swara! They hate me for gods sake and they'll make up thousands of lies just to ruin me!" Shekhar roared and Swara's tears slide down her eyes, hearing what Shekhar had said earlier.
"If you never wanted me then why did you keep me? You could've given me away. . ."
"I wish and you don't know how many times I asked the lawyer to find loop holes in the will but luck wasn't on my side! I had to keep you until you were 18. Besides, Nayonika had insisted to keep you, the same woman who you treated like dirt! But keeping you wasn't bad, you became more useful that I thought."
Swara stared at Shekhar disgustedly. Finding out that she was never wanted caused more pain than him treating her like she was never his but what was more tearing was her finding out he was the reason her mother died, which he isn't admitting.
"The more I hear you, the more I feel ashamed I'm your son. Even though I realised this late, the fact her being my half-blood won't change. No matter what happens, the truth of me being her half-brother will never fade. You failed as a father but I won't let you force me to step low as a brother, who she probably thought would protect her but turned out to be an asshole." Sameer uttered, staring at Shekhar in disgust.
She inhaled a deep breath, wiping her tears and looked at Shekhar, she wanted to say a lot more but words wouldn't slip out of her mouth. Not being able to stand in front of them any longer, she walked away, heading towards her room.
After entering her room, she closed her door, locking it and turned around. Starting to break things in her room, expressing her pain and anger.
Shekhar had walked away, followed by Nayonika and Sameer starts to think.
"Why did Swara say Dad killed her mum? Could he possibly have?" Sameer asked himself, thinking as hard as he can to create a conclusion.
**
"What was the need to even argue with him Sujata? That dirty man will always stay hideous." Ram cussed while staring at his wife, who was stood with her head down.
Durga Prasad sighed, "He will never change his colours."
Sanskaar walked away after leaning down to watch his family drama, where Sujata had told them what had happened and how they reacted to it. He was tired of it and therefore he never included himself in it.
"Bhaisa, I saw his daughter Swara, she looked as innocent as her mother." Sujata says, also revealing her meet with Swara. "Poor soul is unknown to the fact that her father was behind her mother's death." She adds and Durga Prasad gives no reactions at all.
Annapurna lowered her gazes along with Ram Prasad, feeling slightly emotional to hear about Swara, knowing how hard it was for her to stay with a spineless-man like Shekhar. Durga Prasad had walked away whilst Sujata sees his figure disappearing with a frown, maybe she was in the hope to hear Durga Prasad deciding to invite her over.
She sighed and turned around, seeing her husband and Jiji.
***
It had been morning and Swara opened her wet eyes after the sun light had fell on her face, she fell on her arm after leaning away from her bed. The regret of not saying anything to that man was killing her from inside, she impatiently wanted to explode at him but god knew why she couldn't slip anything out. Maybe because she wasn't used to arguing with Shekhar.
She stood up, sniffing while heading towards the bathroom to freshen up and to get dressed for college.
*
Nayonika was sat on the couch while sipping tea whereas Shekhar was eating breakfast. Sameer walked into the hall, glancing at Shekhar and then at his mother.
"Mom, I wanna talk to you." Sameer says and Nayonika looks up at him, signing him 'what' with her eyebrows.
Shekhar ignores him, not bothered to turn his head towards him after feeling insulted yesterday. Sameer looks at Shekhar and then at Nayonika, before he could say anything, he sees Swara walk outside with her college bag. She heads towards Nayonika after spotting her sitting on the sofa. By looking at her tired and dull eyes, not only Sameer, anyone could tell she didn't sleep last night.
"T. . . These are my consent form. I. . . I need your signature so I can collect my certificates on graduation day." Swara says, lifelessly forwarding the papers.
Nayonika takes the papers and starts reading them. Swara forwards the pen and Nayonika takes it, placing the papers on her lap and after looking at two pages, she starts signing. After signing, she hands the paper and pen back to Swara. Swara takes them and heads towards Shekhar. After reaching the table, she placed the paper near him and the pen on top.
Shekhar looks at it, "What is this?"
"Consent form." Swara replies and looks away, seeing Nayonika's signatures, he picks the pen up and starts signing the papers, knowing Nayonika must've read them before signing.
After signing the papers, Swara picks them up and turns around to walk away but she inhales a deep breath and turns back around to face Shekhar.
"Can I have a moment?" Swara asks and Shekhar looks up at her. "You're the worlds cheap, disgusting, spineless, heartless, dirty old man!" She cussed while blinking at him with attitude and turns around to walk out, shocking him.
Sameer looked at her walk past him and then shifted his gazes towards Shekhar, happy that Swara had finally said something to him.
Swara had exited the house with her head held high, knowing this was just the start. . .
**
Sheesh and Sahil had entered the college, embarrassed as everyone looked down at their naked feet.
"Sahil, I cant handle it. I. . ."
"Sheesh, we wronged her and the only way we could get her forgiveness is this. So just put up with it."
"But. . ."
"Let's get to work."
Sheesh panicked "Look, they're making a video."
"It's karma." Sahil responded with a shrug while Sheesh sweated, seeing loads of people flashing their camera light at them.
Sanskaar had walked inside through the gate and sees loads of people laughing and filming, he then stares in the direction they were looking at, seeing Sheesh and Sahil, then remembering Swara's challenge.
"Move! Is there any film shooting going on?" The principal yelled as he pushes past the students.
He stares at Sheesh and Sahil, seeing them without shoes.
"Boys, what's going on?" He asked, heading towards them.
"Uh, Sir. . ."
"Sir a challenge."
"Hmm?"
"Yes, Sir actually we volunteered to take up a challenge, we want to basically feel how it is to clean an environment with no shoes." Sahil utters while Sheesh looks at him.
"What?"
"Mahatma Gandhi Ji used to say Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and used to walk without any shoes most of the time, we thought to start from our college and feel the way Gandhi Ji lived." Sahil hurriedly lied and started walking away, followed by Sheesh while leaving the principal in confusion.
**
Swara had walked inside the college, arriving a little late and as she does, she sees Sahil and Sheesh picking all the litter up from the ground. Sahil stops for a bit, stretching but after seeing Swara, he hurriedly bends down, picking up the bubble wrapper from the floor and throws it in the black bag.
Sheesh wipes the sweat off his forehead and looks up at the sky, feeling the sun burn his skin.
"Sahil, I'll go dark."
"Like I'm going to turn white like an angel." He sarcastically responded and Sheesh turns to him while gritting his teeth, wanting to lash out but seeing Swara walk towards him had grabbed his full attention.
"You two actually did this?" Swara questioned and they blink at her. "You weren't serious?" Sheesh asked and Swara sighed, realising what she had said in an emotional state.
"For your next challenge, I want you two to sacrifice your night and guard the vet home. They're looking for night guards, you two can be good candidates." Sahil and Sheesh look on as Swara spoke.
"Which one?"
"The one near my house. Veena Vets Home." She says and starts walking away.
Sheesh looks at Sahil, wanting to kill him badly and regretted hurting Swara over Sanskaar, who turned out to be a snake.
While Swara was walking, she clashes into Sanskaar and before she could fall, he grabs onto her by the waist, pulling her towards him. She instantly parts herself away from him and he looks down.
"I'm ready for the next challenge." He utters and she inhales a deep breath.
"I want you to sacrifice your bed for the night and sleep in the park opposite Veena Vets Home. Without any pillow or blanket." She orders and he shakes his head positively.
"Also. . ." She trials off, swallowing her spit "I want to meet your mum." She adds and he creased his forehead.
"Like now." She adds, wanting to hear the full truth and wanting to know how Shekhar killed her mother.
Sanskaar nods his head, sliding his phone out.
"Where?"
"At the cafe."
Sanskaar dials his mother's number, turning the phone on speaker.
"Hello."
"Mom, can you please come to the. . ."
"The temple." Swara interrupted, changing the location.
"The temple." Sanskaar completed and looked at Swara.
"Why?"
"Please Mom, it's urgent."
"Okay." Sujata agreed and Sanskaar disconnected the phone.
Swara starts walking and Sanskaar wanted to follow her but before he could, she stops and turns towards him. "I want you to sacrifice your time and clean the college toilets, now." Sanskaar looks on and Swara increased her speed, to leave the college before he could follow her out.
"Toilets. . ." He trialled off displeasingly. He was eager to know why Swara wanted to meet his mum.
He sighed and started to walk away to complete his challenge.
