Future Series Final Part (1)

The first few days after letting Sanskar leave , Swara felt numb as her heart refused to feel anything. It felt like she lost a part of herself. Still the reality of her life kicked in when she went back to her home. She insisted that she want to stay in their house so her dida moved in with her.

Moving to her house was her way of feeling something. Their house held all those memories of them. And as she strolled into the house. The memories were unlocked and she cried for the first time in days. She cried for losing him, She cried for not having him with her now.

A part of swara wished he would hurry up and change his past so her life would have no memories of him. Another part of her wanted him to be with her right this instant. Letting him go was done for him. But it was not easy on Shona. She had begun to lose interest in food, sleep and everything. And Dida the one who was always perspective failed to realize why her Grand daughter was a wreck.

Dida can be as stubborn as Shona when she wants to know something. So with in few days of setting her mind at task to find what bothering her Shona. She found out the entire truth.

But for once even the ever optimistic dida seemed to be at loss of words. Swara knew nothing was optimistic about losing the person you loved more than yourself.

" You should have been patient with him Shona. You know the man had his demons to fight with and instead of shipping him off to fight with his demons. You should have fought it with him, " her dida clear voice spoke up.

While Swara was not someone to argue, She needed someone to tell her the toughest decision she took in her life was right. So she counter argued.

"It Has been three years Dida. How many more years should I wait for him to fall in love with me, " She argued as she tried to believe she took the right decision

"He loves you Shona. And maybe he is an fool to not realize it. But I thought you knew. Doesn't his actions indicate to you how much he loves you. When I asked you to be patient. I wanted you to be patient till he realizes that, " her dida answered back.

"I know how you feel about us dida. But trust me. This is what best for us. The guilt of Kavita death will always weighed on him. And I love him too much to see him live like that without giving him an choice to change it, " She spoke up quelling dida despair for the time.

But Swara felt her loss keenly. She realized life without her sanskar won't be the same. While dida understood her pain. Everyone else couldn't fathom Swara despair when the world knows only of the fact Sanskar went on an business trip. And because they really didn't know they expected Swara to be happy at her sister wedding.

And Swara glanced at the bride who should be happy as well. She notice the fact ragini played her role perfectly. Her face was lit with an smile of politeness. But behind the face and if one clearly looked. They might have seen the real ragini.

One who is forced into Marrying. Swara and ragini have avoided each other for so long. That Swara lost the voice and heart to speak for her behalf when her parents began their ardent effort to make ragini marry.

Ragini was emotionally blackmailed by her mom, was subjected to many heated arguments with her father and finally dadi heart attack and her death wish sealed the deal.

Though one has to wonder if her dadi over exaggerated her illness considering how enthusiastic she seems to be over seeing the wedding. But Swara knew ragini so well that she knew no one except those who really knew her would realize the marriage was not happening with her full consent.

And yet Swara understands while the marriage might not be ragini choice. It was upto her to decide how she wants to progress in it. Either ragini can genuinely try to make her marriage work as Swara had no objection with her parents choice of groom except he wasn't ragini choice or let the marriage fall apart, Just like Swara did.

Swara can't help but think about her wedding which was done under much worse circumstances and yet she was happy. Happy beyond words and now she lost her chance to be happy. Because she got greedy.

No matter what she told dida. Swara was greedy she wanted sanskar heart as well. And faced with an choice of an eternity with sanskar without his love or without sanskar should have been easy decision.

But Swara wanted love as well because she was greedy. She might make up her excuses of sanskar guilt but if sanskar loved her. She would have held on to him because she is not selfless like the world believes her to be when it comes to her sanskar she was selfish.

Swara barely held on till the wedding was over and she was about to leave before her mom caught up insisting that the new bride wants to have an word with her half sister.

Swara and ragini never talked with each other before so she was reluctant at first but at the end of the day she knew she had to hear her out.

Ragini was looking as cheerful as any new bride. And her cheerful mask slipped only when her eyes spotted her sister. Ragini always was jealous of swara. First because she was the neighbour who had the freedom ragini never had, because Swara had a mom who loved her and now because Swara had sanskar.

In spite of all that happened Swara still was able to have an happy life. Maybe the good people only get an happy life because ragini actions have led her to an eternal life of being in an loveless marriage. Just like her parents.

Her parents. Ragini remembered the last fight she had with her father over her marriage. When she begged him to not marry her, told him she wants to live an single life because her heart was still engaged with laksh.

And that when she learnt about her parents loveless marriage. Father said it was perfectly an acceptable option instead of living in his house and bringing him disgrace.

Of course he would say that given he married her mother because of his parents pressure. She was lost in her thoughts she didn't notice Swara enter her room.

"Are you happy?" ragini questions made Swara angry. Because for one she wasn't happy without her sanskar and another ragini thought Swara would be happy over ragini despair.

"In spite of all the wrong you have done towards me. No I am not happy that you had no say in your marriage believe me I know how that feels. Though I loved my husband our marriage didn't occur with my full consent either. So yes I am not happy. And I also hope you find your happiness in this marriage despite of how it happened, " Swara spoke up , only when she noticed ragini shock did she realize she misinterpreted ragini question.

" I know you are not like me, You are too good to get happy over my despair. What I meant was are you happy with sanskar, " ragini clarified a little later

"Yes. Why do you care all of a sudden. Didn't you realize I might not be happy when you forced our marriage by your actions, " Swara lashed out. Because her answer was an lie. She was not happy with sanskar because sanskar was not with her.

"No I didn't realize, If you remember I wanted to get married to laksh without his consent. I wanted to force laksh to Marry me. And I foolishly hoped I will live happily ever after with him. Just like you and sanskar. Apparently I was wrong. I was destined to an loveless marriage all along, " ragini despair shouldn't make Swara concerned. But it did.

An loveless marriage terrified ragini just like it terrified Swara. But she didn't know what words to say to calm the uncertainty in ragini mind. And so she was thankful for her dida arrival .

Swara was surprised by the concern reflected in dida face. And she was relieved when dida tried her best to lighten up ragini with her untimely jokes. Swara expected dida to be the last one to forgive ragini. But dida surprised her by being supportive to ragini.

Swara grew up listening to dida stories, her favorite one was how dida got married. It always seemed like a fairy tale.

Dida marriage was not fairy tale, her marriage was much similar to ragini marriage but when Swara was young she didn't realize it as dida put her magical spin to her story about how she lived happily ever after with her husband and her daughter even if at first she was too scared to speak an word with her husband as she was married off way too young. And when Swara grew she realized why dida supported her mother no matter. She refused to be an unsupportive parent.

So when dida told her story again it was not make an granddaughter sleep but to make her Grand daughter realize not all marriage arranged without consent need to end in despair.

Just like how dida found happiness in her married life even if it last for a short awhile she wanted ragini to believe such happiness is possible for her as well. And ragini seem to believe that because she smiled at her dida that smile was genuine filled with warmth at dida assurance.

Then ragini was marched off to her new house while dida and Swara went back to their house. Each step towards her house was filled with agony at not being able to be with her sanskar.

Marriage aren't events that Swara should attend she decided but all such thoughts fled her mind the moment she saw him. Her sanskar standing in their house. She thought she lost him.. But he was there right before her. For a second she thought she imagined him up.

She was prone to do such things in recent days. The house was filled with their memories but dida smile was not imagination. And Swara didnt wait to think of an answer. She ran towards her husband only to be engulfed in an hug that gave her all the happiness in the world. Only to be snatched away in the next minute at the realization he didn't find a way to change his past .

" What happened. Didn't you find him, " She asked in an breathless voice still holding in to him

" No, I didn't, " Sanskar replied back, surprising his wife .


Sanskar Maheshwari lied to his wife. He couldn't very well tell her the truth. He did find the old man house but he couldn't enter the house in fear of losing his Shona. She wanted him to save Kavita. She wanted him to save Nikhil, He wanted that as well. But he wasn't prepared to lose her either.

An week spent without her while searching for the mysterious man was torturous. He knew he can't give up the search until he searched every corner of the place. It would simply not be acceptable to give up when Swara happiness was at stake.

But a part of him didn't want to find such an place and all hopes crashed when he located the remote house and saw an old man who might be too old to live longer walking outside with some difficulty.

He was about to approach the man but a brief memory of Swara confessing she loves him surfaced and he retreated. He didn't know how to make his mind realize it is for her. Her happiness. But he wasn't able to face him. So he retreated. Planned to lie to his wife all his life if that what it takes to have her with him.

Sanskar realized his foolishness the moment he stepped inside their house. He can't be selfish with Shona happiness. She deserved an husband who loves her , she deserved to fill the house with her kids and she deserves to not feel guilty about the death of her friend. So he was about to go back even if the decision to change his past means losing her. When the object of his happiness walked in wearing an similar expression of sadness.

His heart elated to find her missing him too. Maybe she would be content living with him as they did so far. And the moment she looked up and found him. Her face lit up in an smile that made him believe that he could be enough for her happiness. And so even though he regretted lying to her.

He lied when she asked about the mysterious person. But some lies don't stay hidden for long. But sanskar didn't know that back then. He was busy being happy in his Swara embrace.
