The Drive
I leaned my head against the cold vibrating window, just trying to go to sleep. But I wasn't tired. None of us were. Once again, me and my little family were on the move! This time to a completely different state. We rode in a small black car with five seats in all. My mom and dad were in the front, while me and my older brother were in the back. And one seat between the two of us was far from enough.
Konor seemed to make it his life goal to pick on me. He constantly tapped the beat to songs he knew I hated and never seemed to shut up about my oddly orange hair. No one else in my family had hair like mine. They were all blondies. So the girl with firey red hair in the family definitely stood out.
There were times I wondered if I was secretly adopted, but, every DNA test I was a part of told me that they were indeed, my family. I would kinda prefer it if I wasn't related to Konor however. At least he wasn't extremely mean. That is an upside, I guess.
"Only three hours left!" Mom said happily, trying to bring up our spirits.
"Yaaay.." Both me and Konor said unenthusiastically in response. It was more of a groan than a response. Konor then began tapping the rhythem to, "It's Where My Diamonds Hide." And I know it is just a Minecraft version to "It's Where My Demons hide," but I listened to the Minecraft version a lot more so the lyrics of that one were always the first to pop up. I didn't necessarily loathe the song, but it annoyed me sometimes. I just made myself yawn and tried leaning my head on the window to sleep again.
Guess what? Traffic happened! We were delayed almost an entire hour! By the time the roads cleared up the sun was past the setting point. Only some slight dark reds and purples lined the horizon. It was nice watching the sun set though, accept trees all around us made it hard to see all the pretty colors properly. Stars came into the sky and I looked up at them through the window. I was on the left side of the car, the driver's side for all yall non Americans! :}
Trees still lined the roads, making the view around us unimpressive. Only the stars entertained me enough not to go crazy. Konor at least had his four month old phone to play on. Our family rules were that you had to be sixteen to get your first phone, and I would have to wait a whole nother year for that time to come for me.
I was close to finally falling asleep when I felt our car slow down. It was a weird slowing down.. The kind you don't want in the middle of a two lane highway.
"What's wrong?" I asked Mom and Dad. But they didn't answer. They were both speachless as they stared out in front of them slightly to the left. I looked out my window as far forwards as I could.
What I saw, was a house besides the road. I wouldn't have even been able to see it due to the darkness and many trees between it and the road, but the odd glowing lights emitting from the windows made it stand out. My parents just stared blankly at it, as if they were trying to remember something in the back of their heads. The lights were a mixture of blood red and sea blue. And they didn't mix together to make a dark purple shade. Instead, the colorful lights swirled around each other as if each beam of light was it's own entity. It looked a little ghostly.
Suddenly, a shrill cry, as if someone was in pain, cried out and echoed through the forest. That seemed to do the trick in snapping my parents out of their confused daze, and the gas peddle was slammed hard against the bottom of the car.
"It's him!" Mom shouted as she slammed on the gas. She was the one driving.
"You sure?!" Dad asked in panic.
"Positive!" Was Mom's response.
"Who?!" I asked. Konor seemed a bit too in shock at the moment to ask anything.
"Not now sweetie!" Mom shouted over her shoulder. I could tell she was trying to pass the house as quickly as possible. But in a way, we were just getting closer to whatever my parents were scared of. Good thing our car was the only one on the empty road so the panic swerving didn't put anyone in any serious danger.
As we were passing the house, it erupted in an explosion of blinding white light that faded to the dark red and sea blue swirly colors. The coloring would have looked beautiful, if it hadn't knocked our car off the road. Our family was tossed around inside as the small car flew back by the explosion and rolled around. It slammed into a few trees and the sudden stop knocked me out.

Weird wailing noises swirling around in my head woke me up. It hurt to think. It hurt to breathe. Everything felt sore and I felt blood pooling in my mouth. I spat out the salty tasting liquid and tried to move. I only swayed slightly. I noticed I was laying on my back. Well, half of me was on my back, the other half was sprawled out weirdly as if I had been flung around by one of my legs. Through my squinted eyes I noticed that I was laying on the scieling of the car. The whole thing had landed upside-down. In front of me looked like others laying around, similar to my own position. I tried to move again when I knew of my surroundings. Shocking pain shot through my whole body and I screamed out in distress. I then heard voices in the distance rushing over. I finally recognized the annoying wailing noise as ambulance sirens. I heard urgent chatter going on outside the beaten up car but they were all muffled and hard to hear properly.
I lifted my head and the pain only grew. It felt like a million needles had been stuck into my skin all over my body, but it was somehow worse in my right arm. I tried to look at it but that half of my body was covered in shreaded metal. It was probably one of those large shards digging into my arm that was causing the pain.
I felt the weight of the painful metal being carefully lifted off of me and was relieved when the thought that I was going to be okay came to me. 'But what about Mom, Dad, and Konor?' I didn't have time to panic however, because soon the metal was off of me and I was being quickly carried into the ambulance. I tried to stay awake as long as I could but with a mixture of overwhealming relief that I was alive and medacine now in me, it was impossible. I finally just let myself fall asleep.

I woke up what I knew was a while later because there was a completely different change in scenery. I was in a comfy hospital bed in what was obviously a hospital room. Thankfully there were no beeping machines around me like in movies. So at least I knew that I would be fine.
"Amey! You're awake!" My dad said in excitement as he stood up from the chair he was slouched in. He had dried tears in his eyes and new ones began falling. He limped over and stood by me, not entirely sure whether to give me a hug or not and sat in a chair right next to the bed. It looked like the worst damage he had taken was a broken leg and thumb. I however, didn't look as well. Of course I couldn't see myself under the blankets but the he pain which surged through me was not fun. Not at all.
"Where's Mom and Konor?" I asked. My voice was much more weak and raspy than I thought it could ever get. Reminded me of sandpaper. Another tear fell and and a crying smile appeared on Dad's face. (A crying smile is what I call the expression someone makes when they are crying and their mouth curves up in tension. The worst kind of smile.) My heart sank lower than I thought it ever could at that moment.
"Your mom hasn't woken up yet.." My dad whispered.
"Konor?" I whispered the question.
"...He, didn't make it..." Dad's eyes squeesed shut and he put his head in his hands. I wasn't sure what to think. All the emotions filled my head and I just felt, miserable. All those memories of times I had wished Konor would just leave rushed to my head and made me feel even worse. I started to cry and my dad held my left hand comfortingly/protectively. I still couldn't see my right hand. It was now encased in a hard light green cast.
That, was probably the worst day of my life...
