One Year Later.
"Amey!! Wake up!" Mom called from downstairs. I rubbed my eyes tiredly and rolled out of bed. My internal clock hadn't gone off that morning. I knew I would have to hurry if I was going to be out in time for school. Once showered and dressed, I stepped in front of my mirror with my brush in hand. After having my cast on for so long I was practically a lefty now. Well, I guess I was now considered, ambidextrous. That doesn't have much to do with hair but I thought about that as I brushed my firey red hair with my left hand just as well as I used to with my right.
Once I was done with my hair I left it wet and ran down the stairs. On the wall along the stairs was my backpack with my homework and such already inside. I grabbed it as I ran past and slid into the kitchen. I grabbed a plate of eggs Mom had just made and spun around to the kitchen table and sat down quickly. I had set a bowl, spoon, and some serial on the table last night so I poored myself some while Mom grabbed the milk from the fridge and handed it to me. I could tell Dad had just left for work not long ago because his empty coffee cup was still on the table.
"Don't forget your phone and brace." Mom said as she set the two items on the table as I ate my serial. I slid the phone into my pocket and velcrowed the black brace on my right arm. I still needed it incase I lifted something too heavy or hit it on something. And it also helped in covering all the ugly scars from the stitches. The only scar that I could never completely cover was the one just under my left eye. Even makeup couldn't cover that one up. Good thing it wasn't too big or bold. Just annoying.
Once all the breakfast was in my belly I yelled a goodbye to Mom and ran out the front door. I ran out just in time to see the bus stop in front of my house and I ran in. The door closed and I walked to my seet and sat down. A few houses down, I felt a large plop right next to me and was almost bounced out of my seat. I turned and saw Meli sitting next to me with a wide smile as always.
"Hey Amey!" She said cheerfully.
"Hey." I said in response. Meli had been the first person in school to introduce herself and basically just claimed me as her bestie. I didn't really mind her goofy attitude however. It was refreshing compared to all the old bland kids at my old bland school. Meli was one of the sports girls in the school. She played soccer mostly but was on my swim team too. She even liked lifting weights. She was considered one of the strongest girls in school. She was also considered one of the shortest at five feet and four inches tall. The only reason I remember that is because we used to compare hight. She used to be a little taller than me. But she stopped growing just in time for me to catch up and pass her by several inches. We still look back at the old year book and laugh when we see how much we've grown.
???: Check, check. 1, 2.. Is this thing on?
The farmiliar voice of 303 glided into my thougts. While in the hospital, 303 had suddenly appeared in my head and started talking to me at random times. I could tell by both his voice and maturity that he was just around my age, maybe even a little younger. He said something about being stuck in some alternate reality and me for some reason being the only one he can contact. At least he had been good company while I was in the hospital. Though as you can all probably imagine, a voice in your head can get pretty annoying.
Me: Hey 303. Why didn't you wake me up?
I asked with my thoughts. It is kind of the layer of thought between talking and first ideas. So 303 can't technically read my mind, unless I say what I am thinking in my head.
303: I was having connection problems. You forget to pay the cell service again? :}
He said sarcastically. I rolled my eyes and looked out the window.
303: Have I ever told you you're cute?
Me: Yes, three weeks ago.
303: Oh so you do remember past yesterday?! How come you 'forgot' to call Gabriel back then?
Even though I couldn't see 303, I could tell he had a childish grin on his face. Oh and what a genius card he had played to bring that up. I never saw it coming. Of course he had nothing else to do but plan what to say next. I blushed when he mentioned that. Good thing Meli was talking to someone on the other bench or I would have to explain me blushing for no reason.
Me: Hu, wa- wat!?
303: Ha! Best reaction of the year. If I had a camera I would photograph it and post it on the papers!
Me: You stinkin mind hacker!
303: Hey, enough with the nicknames! :(
Me: Says the person who calls himself 303. What kind of a name is that anyways?!
303: It's a name too good for you to make fun of. :)
He was silent for a little bit and I kept my mind quiet. After a while of having someone who can access your mind you can get pretty good at keeping it quiet. I would probably even be able to pass through a lie detector whether I was lying or not at this point. Me and Meli started talking again as the wheels on the bus went round and round.
303: So what you and ms. talkidy talk talking about?
Me: Didn't I tell you to stop with the nicknames?
303: Hey I am not the one who broke that 'no nicknames' pact of ours!
Me: Alright fine. Just don't be annoying!
303: But that is what I strive to be. :>
I eventually just gave up the conversation and waited for school to start. 303 may have been annoying, but he was also the reason I had such good grades in math. Math was of all of them my least favorite class. So I would just let him listen to the lectures and such while I let myself just look like I was paying attention, and when the tests came he would help me out. He was actually very quick at solving tough equations. And even my strict math teacher was impressed at times.
The bus finally stopped in front of school and me and Meli walked in.
303: Oh! Oh! Oh!. There's Gabriel! You should talk to him!
303 said as I passed Gabriel in the hallway. I just ignored 303's advise and walked past him. But I didn't go far before I felt a hand tap my shoulder. I quickly turned around and saw Gabriel was looking nervously at me.
"Hey Amey." He waved. He did his best not to look awkward, but him shoving his fingers into his thick cirly black hair just gave it all away. We had been pretty good friends before he finally told me he had a crush on me so I knew his nervous habits. I never knew what to say to him, so I had just tried ignoring him.
"Hey." I brushed the strands of hair that just loved falling into my face away as I spoke shyly.
303: Say you like him! Ship it! ship it!!
Me: What are you even talking about?! No!
303: Awww, come on! You're no fun.
Me: Good.
"So, I take it you don't really like me.. A- and I understand. But is it alright if we at least be friends again?" He asked.
"Of course." I smiled. He did too.
303: Oh come on! I wanted drama. Where were the tears Amey? Where were they?!
Me: Would you just stop for once?!
303: Fine. I'll be back for math class. Can't wait for the decimal, fraction, algebra combo!
Oh yeah. Did I mention that 303 actually likes math? Oh, well. Now you know! :]
