Chapter 25: Poisoned Heart

Gila rolled her eyes as her team finally reached the abandoned building, thoroughly unimpressed. This was Team Oblivion's hideout? It looked more like a Trubbish's home on the outside.

"Do you know if she's really in there?" Archer asked. "I mean, she didn't directly call you."

Gila turned towards the stupid Krait twin, pulling down the gas mask over her face. "Doesn't matter who that boy was. Someone called the number. She used her chance. Just think, after this, there will be two less things to worry about."

Archer Krait tilted his head to the side. He already had his gas mask on, but even so, Gila could tell what kind of stupid look was written all over his face.

"What's that?" Archer asked.

Luckily for Gila, Hunter slapped his twin from behind. "Idiot! One less evil organization to worry about for when we conquer the world and that stupid super won't be able to stop us until she finds Lantana."

"Oh," Archer realized, before letting out a nervous laugh. "I forgot."

Gila rolled my eyes. Amateurs. She honestly didn't get why her father hired those two buffoons in the first place. If it was just Hunter, she'd understand. That man was skilled in every aspect, but his twin, well, he was dumber than a Magikarp.

The only reason the group were here was because of a phone call they'd received from Swanna Girl's phone. One phone call, that was all she got. Once they helped her out with whatever situation she was in, she'd be indebted to them. All they had to do was help her once. After all, that prat was the reason Team Miasma didn't succeed the first time. It was because of her that half of the team was as good as dead. In reality, she should have been already be indebted to Team Miasma, but that wasn't how it worked. At least, that was what Gila thought.

Once they were done helping her, she'd wish she'd never become that superhero ever again.

One of the few grunts Gila allowed on this mission knocked down the door. She pushed the grunt to the side as she saw the place filled with a gray-purplish like fog.

Great. Poison Powder haze, Gila's favorite kind of thing to clear a room. Only, as she looked around, she had to remind herself that this wasn't her team's doing. All she could do was admire how well Team Oblivion did their work.

As much as Gila hated to admit it, she was impressed.

She looked down at her watch. "We've got five minutes to find the super, get out, and revive her."

"Wouldn't that be hard?" Archer asked. "Cuz last time I checked, we don't exactly have a nurse on our side."

"Just shut the hell up for once!" Gila screamed. "Take a look around. If you find anything, report it to me immediately."

Every member of her team nodded as they ran around the building. It was a small, abandoned shack, so it only took them five seconds to find the trap door that led to an underground hideout. Of all places, Gila never thought people would live underground. It made her wonder who else might be hiding underground.

The team spread out, checking multiple different rooms. Hunter and Archer stayed by Gila's side as usual, each of them taking the privilege of kicking down whatever doors they could find. If Miasma wanted their own plan to work, they needed that prat alive.

Gila shoved the two men aside as she marched down a hallway. If they were leaving her to die, they wouldn't have done so in an ordinary room. The leaders of Team Oblivion would've made it a bit more obvious that they were going to kill her when they did.

That was when she saw it: a big black door that was locked. A smiled crossed Gila's lips as she threw out her Arbok to knock the door down. Once down, she went inside. Her eyes widened at the sight.

A woman with short black hair, wearing a black uniform, twitched on the floor as if she was just feeling the effects of the Poison Powder haze. She might have looked different, but that naive little face of hers was still there.

"Arceus, you better be worth my time," Gila muttered as she looked back at the door. "Krait! She's in here!"

Before the Krait Twins arrived, Gila felt someone clamp their hand on where her mouth was on the mask before pushing her down to the ground and ripping it off her face. Seconds after it was torn, she covered her mouth with her hand and looked up to see a boy with dark brown hair pulling the gas mask over Swanna Girl's face.

"Idiot!" Gila screamed. "You're just going to kill her faster."

The boy looked at Gila as if she was nothing more than Tauros shit. He held a black piece of cloth over his mouth in an attempt to stop the poison from getting into his system. "Why do you care? You're just going to use her. Besides, there's way of saving a gas mask if you know how to work it." He turned around and made a few adjustments to the mask. Once made, he grabbed the woman and was about ready to make it through the door. Only, he didn't make it far when the Krait Twins stepped into the room.

"We had a job to save Swanna Girl, not you," Gila coughed. "You didn't think I'd come alone, did you?"

The dark-haired boy cursed before throwing out some sort of Pokémon. The Miasma members all watched as the boy quickly disappeared the moment the Pokémon was out.

Gila quickly stood up and looked out the doorway, seeing the boy teleport himself just behind the Krait Twins. The Krait Twins turned around, and just stared at him.

"Don't just stand there," Gila ordered. "After him!"

(-o-)

"Now's not the time to be sleeping on the job," a voice growled.

My eyes squeezed shut before something furry nudged my face. I froze. I didn't own a fluffy kind of Pokémon. Well, there was Mienfoo, but she wasn't exactly a cuddler like Musharna was.

"Come on we don't have much time," the voice groaned.

I slowly peeled my eyes open, seeing a small black furry Pokémon. I don't ever remember seeing a Zorua before, at least, not back when anything happened.

As Zorua stepped back, I realized I had somehow gone from a room where I was supposed to die to a lightly forested area. As soon as I noticed my surroundings, I felt someone grab my shoulders to lift me up to a sitting position. I looked at the person, frowning the second I did.

"Look, I know you're not happy with me," Lethe explained as he handed me my belt with three Poké Balls on it. "But we don't have much time. I got your Pokémon right here. You need to get to Castelia City before it's too late."

"Why are you helping me?" I asked, crossing my arms.

Lethe sighed. "Because family shouldn't tossed to the side like a useless TM. Besides, I see into the future. I know how to change things to keep you and your friends alive, even if it means doing something risky. Not that it matters. Right now, we need to meet up with your friends in Castelia City."

"What in the Distortion World is going on?" I asked.

Lethe shook his head. "Team Oblivion is moving into their final stage. I called your friends, who are helping put a stop to them right now, but in order to stop them, we're going to need to help them out."

I nodded, not really trusting Lethe, even if he was my brother. He'd have to prove it a bit more to me, after all the stunts he'd pulled.

But I found truth in his words as Castelia City made sense for some odd reason. I threw Swanna out from his Poké Ball and was about ready to climb on his back when I heard someone screaming. I turned around to see Gila and the remaining members of Team Miasma marching towards us.

My eyes widened as Lethe threw out two other Poké Balls, releasing an Umbreon and his other Pokémon, Stunky. None of the members of Team Miasma seemed to be fazed, especially since Gila was glaring at me.

While I wanted to hop on Swanna's back, I didn't. If I did, Gila would toss out her Mandibuzz and stop me from stopping Team Oblivion from doing whatever evil they wanted to do to Unova.

Gila pointed her finger accusingly at me. "You better have a good excuse as to what happened back there, girly."

My eyes widened as I glanced over at Lethe. The boy looked livid.

"She didn't call you, I did," Lethe claimed, "so whatever deal you had with her you can just forget about it and put me in her place."

The new leader of Team Miasma marched up to Lethe, ignoring the Pokémon that were around him as she jabbed her finger into the boy's chest. "You think this is up for interrogation after the stunt you pulled, mister? Then you're wrong, cuz no one fools me and gets away with it."

"Can someone explain what's going on?" I asked, glancing over from Gila and Lethe and over towards the Krait Twins.

Glia looked back at me, looking completely livid. "Your little friend here used your phone call to get you out of that poisonous fog. Because of that, you're coming with us to start our search."

I threw my hands up in surrender. "Gila, if I don't go to Castelia City, this whole place is going to..." I looked at Lethe, realizing I wasn't entirely sure what their plan of attack was. "Wait, what is Team Oblivion going to do to Unova?"

Lethe opened his mouth as he looked back at me to explain, but he was interrupted by an ear-shattering boom in the background. I winced at the sound, but I looked up to see the sky darkening to a pitch black within seconds.

"Shadow wanted to wipe everyone of their memories and make them their slaves with Nox's Visioner; however, with that plan failing, he's just going to destroy everything in his path until people surrender to him, and live in fear of him and his companions," Lethe explained before looking over towards the remaining members of Team Miasma. "Which means you won't be able to destroy everything in your path as they'll kill all of you first."

Gila shrugged. "We could always strike a deal with them, I'm not worried."

I took a deep breath. Gila wasn't going to see things unless it was her way. She wanted me to help her find Lantana. I didn't have a choice in that matter, but it was just to be on the lookout for her. If we kept that deal up, there would be no one to save Unova. This left me with one other choice. Hopefully my friends would forgive me for what I was about ready to say.

"If you help us defeat Team Oblivion right now from destroying the world," I offered, looking back at Swanna, so these guys wouldn't see the pain in my eyes. "The second they're destroyed and stopped for good, I won't just help you find Lantana, I'll—I'll join Team Miasma, listening to every order you give without question, helping you out on missions, becoming an obedient member of Team Miasma until she's found."

"Sylvia!" Lethe gasped.

Someone grabbed my hand. I looked up to see Gila shaking my hand with hers as she gave a mischievous smile.

"You have yourself a deal," Gila said. "The moment Team Oblivion is destroyed, you're coming straight to us, no question asked. Try anything funny, and I'll make sure Team Oblivion's plan seem like paradise ."

I nodded my head as a knot clumped into my stomach.

Author's Note:

Uh-oh, Sylvia's made yet another deal with the devil, this can't be good. On the bright side, looks like Team Miasma is on the good side, even if it's only for a few chapters. Oh well, can't get everything.

Okay, so question time: what do you think of Sylvia's decisions of always making these deals with her enemy? Did her answers ever surprise you, or not? Love to hear what you have to think of Sylvia's not-so-great life choices here.

Hope you are all doing swell. Take care.
