Chapter 23: In the Abyss
The minute I started to wake up, I felt nauseous. My head was still spinning from whatever happened last. There was even a slight ringing noise echoing through my head. I grabbed the sides of my head, trying to massage the sound out of there, but neither of my hands, nor arms, move.
My eyes shot open, making me realize I was no longer at the Rheas'. Instead, all I could feel was the cold metal wrapped around my wrists. I looked up, seeing my hands tied above me by metal shackles.
Why did I have the feeling I was in Team Oblivion's lair? And why was it always me who had to get tricked in getting into these places? At least seeing my arms hung above me explained why I had no feeling in my arms at all. I looked down as I noticed the sleeves of my suit had been ripped in various places. As I did, I noticed my body hanging, as my legs were limp on the ground. I took a deep breath as I carefully stood on them, feeling something sharp jab into my side.
What did I do to get in here?
I tried to think of whatever happened last. I was in my room, or at least, the room I was sharing with Rena for the time being. Joy was mad at me. She had every right to be mad at me. I'd been lying to her all this time. Of all people, I knew I could trust her, and yet, I never told her who I really was.
But that wasn't the last thing that happened. My memory came in bits and pieces. Joy was mad at me, why? Not because I told her who I was, but there was something else.
Then I remembered.
"Merde," I hoarsely cursed.
Once again, I was tricked. I shouldn't have been so naive. I should've seen it coming.
Lethe tricked me into thinking he was my brother. He had the same gray eyes and a picture of my mother when he was younger. True, it was the oldest I'd ever seen my mother, so it could've all been true, but Lethe wasn't my brother.
Even if we were related by blood, he was no brother of mine.
"Finally!" A voice rejoiced. "She's awake! Thank Arceus, that took longer than expected."
I looked around, but I saw nothing but the single blurry light bulb that hung above me, only showing the portion of the wall I was shackled to.
"The dosage was too high for someone her size," a familiar voice sneered. "The dosage I gave was for the man, not the woman. You're lucky she's alive."
My head snapped to the direction of where the voices were coming from, but I realized it wasn't possible. I looked up and squinted my eyes, seeing nothing there but the darkness outside the circle of light that hung above me.
"Nox?" I asked.
His voice chuckled. "You didn't honestly think I wouldn't have helped them, did you?"
My lip quivered. "I—I thought you wanted our help."
"I did," Nox agreed. "You know, I was on your side up until they made me an offer of a lifetime back when your team took me in. Team Oblivion needed a great inventor and someone on the inside, and in exchange for wealth and glory. No hard feelings, right, Ms. Gray?"
This time, my whole body shook until my legs gave out once again. I didn't even try to stand up again. Instead, I just let my body hang from my arms, feeling useless. Rena was right. That man was a no-good, two-faced jerk. I should've seen it sooner.
Now, we were all doomed.
"At least we have someone to test it on," the first voice claimed. "Though, I must warn you, everyone who's taken part of this experiment hasn't made it out alive. Wonder why Lethe chose you out of all your friends to take part in this."
Lethe.
I dropped my head at that name. Of course he'd chose me. He'd taunted me since the moment we've met. It was no wonder why he wanted me dead. The whole brother thing must've been an act. Deep down, I knew it wasn't. That picture of him and my mom was all the proof I needed to realize we were related by blood. Why would someone betray his own family like this?
"What are you going to do to me?" I asked, not expecting an answer.
Nox laughed, making me wonder how much he was enjoying seeing me struggle right now. "You're in for a real treat, because between my invention called the Visoner, and Team Oblivion's talents, you will be free of all fear and forget everything you've ever known."
My eyes widened as my heart started to race. "That's impossible. You can't do that to people."
The first voice chuckled. "Oh, but we can. If not, it's back to the drawing board and we just have to find some other people to be our victims. Though, I must say, you could consider yourself lucky. Had Lethe not let that little pink-haired brat escaped, she would've been our next subject."
No.
I could feel my whole body shake more and more as the room started to grow colder and colder. The lights turned on blinding me.
That was when everything started to disappear.
(-o-)
When I woke up, I found myself in Castelia City, only it looked different. Everything seemed dark as there was no one to be found. Odd.
I walked around, not sure how I got here, or what happened once again. Everything just seemed off. Usually, this city was full of people as there was a lot people could do here. I mean, this place wasn't just home to Castelia Cones, but also the Miltank-free Castelia Cones that brought people from all over the world.
Where was everyone?
I found myself walking towards my old Pokémon Center, not knowing where else to go. If there was one place I could figure out what in the Distortion World was going on, it would be there.
However, when I found myself inside my Pokémon Center, I found nothing. The inside of the Pokémon Center was completely empty. The tables and chairs had disappeared, only leaving the front desk deserted in the back.
Then, someone screamed.
I turned around and ran out of there. If anyone was out there, it sounded like they needed help. I rushed out of the Pokémon Center, quickly wishing I'd just stay inside.
Fire consumed everything. I looked up, seeing the sky turn black as something flew in the sky, shooting attacks from above to destroy whatever was left. My heart pounded in my chest as I quickly leapt out of the way from one of the attacks. Out of habit, I grabbed Swanna's Poké Ball and threw him out.
Only, there was one problem.
There was nothing on my belt.
I looked down, seeing myself in a ripped Swanna Suit. If I was in my Swanna Suit, then I should've had Swanna's Poké Ball by my side.
The Pokémon swooped down as the sky turned red. My eyes widened. During my time in Kalos, I'd learned a thing or two about the few legendaries that were found there. There were two main ones. The first was Xerneas, the legend of life. Xerneas controlled everything that was living, bringing life to those around it.
However, that Pokémon had an opposite: Yveltal.
Yveltal was a black and red Pokémon that was best described to look like a dragon shaped in the letter Y. Guess that was why the Pokémon started with that letter.
Nothing ever good came if Yveltal was around. Seeing that its electric blue eyes were suddenly staring down at me, I froze. There was no way of fighting it.
"Sylvia! Look out!" I heard a voice scream.
I turned around seeing someone tackle me out of the Pokémon's way. I opened my eyes, seeing a boy with gray eyes sliding off of me on the ground as he brushed the dirt off of him.
I didn't move, realizing that if the brown haired boy didn't tackle me to the ground, I would've been destroyed in a matter of seconds.
He looked familiar, but for some odd reason, I couldn't put a name to his face. To be honest, all I remembered was my name. Swanna Girl, or Sylvia Gray. I remembered my past, and faces. This guy was one of them, but as to what he meant, I wasn't sure.
What was going on?
"I don't have much time," The boy said, "but you need to wake up. If you don't...this is what's going to happen. There will be no more Unova. Everyone you love will die. Sylvia, you need to wake up and remember—"
Before the boy could explain any more, I saw the Pokémon, Yveltal, swoop down and shoot another attack. Instead of the attack landing on me, it landed on the boy.
Within seconds, the boy exploded into a million pieces. My mouth gaped wide opened, realizing there was no body, just countless flecking black pieces floating where he'd been. It was then I realized what was going on, realized who that boy was.
I needed to get out of here. I stood up and looked the destruction Pokémon right in the eye.
Whatever was going on, I needed to get out of here, or else everyone would die.
I needed to wake up.
(-o-)
When I finally woke up from whatever sedative I was forced to go under, I found myself still chained to the wall with shackles still clasped around my wrists. I felt a wave of deja vu as my head throbbed more than it did before. I thought it would've gone away, but it didn't. Then again, the last thing I remember was the room growing colder.
Footsteps grew louder, which didn't help the pounding migraine in my head. I dropped my head, seeing my legs had given out. That didn't seem to matter to whoever came as I felt the shackles ripped from my wrists. The minute they were off, my tired and sore arms dropped to my sides. I fell to the ground, not wanting to move.
I didn't have a choice.
Two people grabbed an arm and pulled me up. I winced at the pain that stabbed in my side, more than I did the nails that were digging into my arms.
"Do you think it worked," a feminine voice to my right asked.
My vision blurred a bit. As I looked down, I could see my body being dragged as it multiplied into two before shrinking back to one multiple times. Because of this, I didn't attempt in trying to figure out who had me.
"Let's hope," Lethe's voice warned, making me realize he was to my left, "or else our leaders will start using grunts."
The person to my right gulped.
"How will we know if it worked?" The girl asked.
"She won't remember a thing," Lethe assured. "She'll blindly do what Shadow wants."
I wanted to say something, but the person to my left pinched my arm a bit tighter, almost warning me not to say a word. It was then I realized what had to be done. If I wanted to make it out of here, alive, I had to play their game.
Nox said I wasn't supposed to remember anything once I was put under.
But for some reason, I remembered everything.
