Chapter 4: Secrets Revealed

No matter how much I argued that I needed to get back to the Pokémon Center, Ms. Rhea didn't give me much of a choice. We flew on Braviary, which was surprising to see how one Pokémon could only fly one person. I'll give Braviary Man props to his Pokémon, as he was stronger than every normal Braviary I've ever taken care of before.

We didn't land inside Nimbasa City, even though the city skyline could be seen from the desert we landed in. Ms. Rhea didn't walk towards the city either. Seeing that she was my only chance of me getting back home, I followed her until she stopped and bent down to scrape away the access sand, revealing a hidden trap door.

The sand blew around our feet, but one thing was for certain. There was no way anyone could see this door without searching for it. I adjusted my glasses, seeing if there were any clues as to how Ms. Rhea found it, but there were none. Odd. Everything had a sign. Considering I couldn't find one made it rather unsettling.

Instead of opening the door herself, Braviary landed on the door and hopped on it once before the door slid horizontally, like an elevator door. The Pokémon flew up and grabbed Ms. Rhea by the collar of her blazer.

"He'll be back for you, don't worry," She assured as the Pokémon lifted her up and flew her down the hatch.

To say I was surprised as to what was going on would be an understatement. I widened my eyes in surprise, looking down at the long tunnel. If one was to fall down there, they'd probably never come back. Taking a deep breath, I took a step away from the tunnel.

Soon after, Braviary shot upwards, staring me in the eyes. Pokémon were fascinating creatures, surpassing humans in many ways. One of the most remarkable areas where they excel in is memory. Seeing this Pokémon stare at me reminded me of one thing, and one thing only.

When we met, I wasn't exactly kind to his Trainer, and if a Pokémon with a beak could give a mischievous smile, then that's exactly what this Pokémon did. He knew the perfect way for pay back. I didn't flinch, knowing what would happen next. The flying Pokémon grabbed me by the collar—just like he did with Ms. Rhea—only this time, he dug his talons into my skin.

Now, I was wincing in pain as he picked me up and flew as fast as he could down the tunnel, letting himself drop down rather than flapping his wings to fly faster. Screaming is what this Pokémon would want me to do. Despite that my heart was beating faster than ever, all I did was squeeze my eyes shut until the Pokémon let go of me.

Braviary was a superhero's Pokémon. While he hated me, I knew he would only hurt me, but not enough to kill me. My feet didn't even make it to the ground when he let go of me. I opened my eyes just as I landed on my hands and feet from the impact.

The Pokémon landed beside me. I looked up at him and smiled. Braviary was shock.

"I'm so sorry, he never does that," Ms. Rhea explained as she helped me up to my feet. She didn't need to, but I didn't stop her, giving Braviary a bright smile.

"It's alright," I said. "It was fun."

While it wasn't fun whatsoever, I got the reaction I wanted from Braviary. His eyes widened before shooting daggers at me in his eyes. The tension between us would always be there, but while it was, I might as well have fun with it.

"Rena! You're ba—Arceus no-no-no, you did not just bring the silver-eyed traitor here. Rena!" A voice complained.

I turned around seeing the blond haired, navy blue eyes boy from before. His blond hair flew in every direction before he could try hiding it as he slid on the baseball cap. He wore a t-shirt, showing off some muscle, but it wasn't enough to say he worked out every day.

It was the expression in his eyes. One could've mistaken that I had just seen the boy in just his boxers.

"Rena," I repeated, looking at Ms. Rhea. "That's your name."

The blue haired girl growled before marching over to Braviary Man, or as she called him minutes ago, Rudi. Her finger stabbed into his chest. His expression changed into a different kind of fear. It was the kind of fear that made it seem as if Ms. Rhea, or Rena, was a Krookodile ready to take a bite out of him.

"This is all your fault, mister," she scolded. "Had you not been so irresponsible, this wouldn't have happened!"

Oh Deerling, this couldn't be good.

"My fault? You're the one who brought her home. If Mom or Dad find out that you brought some civilian home, well, you can kiss your laptop goodbye," Rudi hissed.

Rena didn't take a step back. She was about ready to release the Krookodile that was inside her onto Rudi. While I didn't like the guy, I couldn't let him be eaten alive by this blue-haired girl.

I ran over to them and tore Rena off of Rudi. Seeing them both up close, I could see the similarities of their faces. Rena may have light blue eyes, but they had dark flecks of navy blue in them as well. There was no denying these two were siblings of some sort, and sibling fights were always the worst.

"Cut it out, both of you," I chastised. "I pick up on small details, but I keep to myself. You know why? Because I want to make sure the Pokémon who come to the Pokémon Center are treated fairly, and if the same Trainer comes in twice, with the Pokémon acting strange, then I know somethings up. It's my job. Just like it is your job to play superhero."

"Play? You think I am playing around?" asked Rudi. "I saved you and your Pokémon from Team Miasma. You're welcome."

"For what? Scaring them away like you do all they time. You still haven't stopped them." I countered.

"The girl's right you know," Rena pointed out. "Why don't you go back to some training?"

"Fine, but get her out of here before Mom and Dad come back," Rudi explained.

"What is it we shouldn't know?" a masculine voice asked.

Without warning, Rudi grabbed my shoulders and twirled me around him until I was behind him. Because of his tall stature compared to my tiny one, I was able to hide behind him. I placed my hands on his back to stabilize myself. That was all it took for me to feel him breathing heavily.

Ironic how the brave Braviary Man was shivering in the sight of his parents. I wish I could see the look on his face for that.

"N-nothing!" Rudi explained.

"Then who's the young girl behind you," a high pitch, feminine voice asked.

I sighed, taking a step from behind him and showing myself to Rudi and Rena's parents. Their mom had long blonde hair that was pulled over her shoulder in some sort of braid, allowing her light colored blue eyes to be shown. She wore a blue dress, with heels, but even that couldn't match her to her husband's height. Like his wife, their dad had blond hair that was combed to the side. Rudi looked like a younger version of his dad, only his dad looked like he was losing a ton of sleep.

"Sorry for intruding, but my name is Sylvia. I'm practicing to be a Pokémon nurse," I explained, taking the nursing cap from my head. I guess I didn't need to explain that. Like Nurse Joy, I would wear a cap and apron, only, I never wore the dress.

Dresses were the epitome of torture.

Like Rudi and Rena, I expected their parents to be very upset. I looked down at the ground, seeing Braviary smirk at me somehow. Oh, if I could rip the head off of anyone right now, no matter what my training of being a Pokémon nurse would advise me not to, I would tear the head off that Pokémon's body.

That Pokémon knew. It wouldn't just be his Trainer and Rena being punished. Somehow, I would join in the fun. He didn't care about this though. Seeing me struggle would be the best day of Braviary's life.

Seeing that this place was top secret, it was safe enough to say their parents wanted to keep it that way too. I took took a deep breath, waiting for them to say something.

But they didn't.

I looked up at their parents. As I did, I could see the mother's eyes shattered in a million pieces.

"You're Sylvia Gray," their mother said, walking up to me. "You're Jenna and Andrew's girl. You look exactly like your mother."

At the sound of that, I took a step back. "Please, don't."

"Wendy," the man said, "don't scare the girl. I'm sorry, but Wendy and I were good friends of your parents."

"Were?" Rena asked.

There wasn't any way around it. "They're dead, have been for 15 years. I—I need to go."

There was a reason I never talked about my parents. There was a reason I never thought about my parents. The less I did, the better. I never knew them. I didn't have one memory of them.

People, for some odd reason, just thought I was sitting around in pity all the time. I didn't need it. All I wanted was to work and help others. How can you help others when they're sad?

And not just the kind of sad that you can cheer up by talking to them about the problem or giving them a chocolate ice cream cone to make their problems disappear. They're sad because I'm supposed to be sad. Was I supposed to be sad because I had no parents? Nurse Joy raised me up well on her own. That's how it was.

There's no way one can go back into the past and change what has happened.

"I'm sorry," Rena apologized.

"For what? It's not your fault. They died. Life moves on," I said, glancing at Braviary hoping for some sass from the Pokémon.

For once, I wish Pokémon weren't so smart. While he hated me, Braviary understood what was going on. His eyes looked up at me as if he was about ready to cry.

"You're just like your father," Wendy said. "In fact, I think there's something he left here he'd like you to have."

My eyes peeled away from the superhero Pokémon as I glanced up at Wendy. She looked like she just wanted to help, but I couldn't let her.

"Sorry, but I really should get back," I told her. "Nurse Joy will need my help eventually."

"Oh no you don't," Rena argued, grabbing my arm and pulling me, so I was forced to follow her parents lead. "She said you needed friends and isn't expecting you until supper time."

At the sound of friends, I heard Rudi laugh. I whipped my head around just to glare at him. His smile didn't falter. Instead, the boy just raised an eyebrow in amusement. Geez, one moment, everyone seems sad about my past, and now this guy is purposely getting on my nerves.

Why did I feel like I was being kidnapped here? I had a Pokémon at the Pokémon Center that needed my help. While Nurse Joy would do a fine job taking care of her, I wanted to make sure myself that Ducklett was doing fine. After all, I was the one who protected her from Team Miasma. If anything, she was my responsibility, and once she got better, I wanted to be the one to take her back to her home.

That Ducklett might have family that's missing her this very instant.

Instead, I followed the family, or at least, pulled by Rena for that matter, through the various hallways. We didn't go into any of the rooms, but I carefully took note, memorizing every door there was. I didn't want to get lost here.

Some of the doors just had numbers on them. One of them had a bright pink sparkly sign that read the name Rena Rhea on it. When she introduced herself as Rhea, she must've been using her last name. I turned my head, just in time to see the room across it.

Embarrassingly enough, Rudi nudged my arm to try and prevent me from looking. It was too late. I already saw the door decorated with newspaper articles on the one and only Braviary Man. This guy was surely full of himself.

By the time we reached the end of the hallway, there was a lone lever on the wall. Rena let go of my wrist, letting me rub the area she held a tight feast on. She might not look it, but this blue haired girl had the tightest grasp I've ever felt.

Both Wendy a—or Mr. and Mrs. Rhea (I'm not sure if I should really be calling them by their first name) turned around to face me.

"Your parents were remarkable people," Mr. Rhea said. "They, of all people, would want you to see this."

Mrs. Rhea nodded her head. "Do you want to do the honors?"

Instead of answering, I just crossed my arms and shook my head. I didn't want to see anything that my parents had here. Just standing here, I felt my stomach twist and turn. Even my throat started to go dry. This just didn't seem right.

While I knew nothing about my parents, they didn't seem like the kind of people to be living in the desert, or friends with them for that matter. They were close friends with Nurse Joy, the one living in Nacrene City. If they—

I bit my bottom lip, looking down at my shoes. I didn't want to even think about it.

"Fine, if you don't want to do it, I will," Rudi announced.

I looked up just in time to see him pull the lever of on the wall. As he pulled down, the wall, with the lever, rose up, revealing a set of stairs. The blond haired, navy blue eyed boy looked back at me, smirking.

"Ladies first," he said, offering a hand.

Looks like I didn't have much of a choice. I didn't take his hand, but I walked past the family and walked down the stairs. As I took the first step, lights shown above me. Each step I took, more and more lights shown, just to show me the step below me.

By the time I reached the bottom step, the room lit up, and my eyes widened at the sight.

Similar to the newspapers on Rudi's door, there were pictures of a man and a woman dressed in costume fighting crime. The first was a man dressed up in a huge pink mask and a slick black costume. I didn't understand why at first until I looked at the second picture, which had the same man flying on an Unfezant.

There were other pictures, some resembling of the current Braviary Man, only, this one seemed much older. His costume was even a bit outdated in a way. One picture that the Unfezant man and the older Bravairy man was in was fighting crime alongside a woman.

I leaned in closer to get better look. Her dark hair was pulled up in a high ponytail on the top of her head while silver eyes shown through a white mask. My eyes widened as I looked at the picture longer. Her outfit resembled a tutu in a way, as if she wore that outfit on stage to a performance called Swanna Lake. The skirt was longer though, cutting off below the knee, but what shocked me was the woman's eyes.

They were silver. Silver were like navy blue eyes. No one had them.

"Your mother and father were brave people," the man explained, "fighting crime until they were forced to retire."

"Wait, you're telling me, that Sylvia's parents were THE Swanna and THE Unfezant?" Rudi nearly yelled in my ear.

"Yes," Mr. Rhea explained.

"Of course, no one could ever tell," Mrs. Rhea explained. "Your mother also did gy—"

"No."

My statement threw everyone off guard. I stared at the pictures, feeling my eyes stinging more and more. There was a reason I didn't want to learn about my parents. While it seemed silly, I didn't know them. It was easy to just forget.

That woman had silver eyes. Just how common were silver eyes?

I squeezed my eyes shut. There was absolutely no way it could be true.

Turning around, I looked up at Mr. Rhea. "I'm sorry, but I have to get home. I don't feel good."

Before anyone could say anything, I bolted up those stairs, sprinted all down the hallway until I found myself at the exit. I couldn't think straight right now. None of this could be true. There was absolutely no way my parents were superheroes. They would've been talked about.

I would've known about my parents before anyone told me a thing.

My vision started blurring as my face got wet. Through the blurriness, I found Braviary. Whether he was mad at me or not, I hopped on his back, ordering him to fly me back home. Somehow, in the past hour, his attitude towards me had changed. The bird Pokémon didn't give me any kind of attitude as he looked up at the secret doors above us.

This was just too much to take in for one day.

Author's Note:

I love asking questions, so every few chapters, I'm going to ask a question either about the story or Pokemon in general. For today's quesiton: If you had a Pokemon Superhero team, what would your Pokemon be, and what would be your Pokemon Super Hero name be? So biased right now to Swanna Girl (because of my OC here) but then I think...Wouldn't the Black Ninja with a shiny Grininja be cool too? Get's me thinking for ideas for other books to write, and the list just gets longer and longer and longer...

Oh well, until next time...take care!
