Chapter 27: The Battle
I leaned in towards Swanna as the harsh winds blew around us. I knew Kyurem was a legendary Pokémon, and I knew Taipan wanted to see this world end, but the power I was witnessing, it was astounding. Winds were slapping Swanna and me, as if trying to blow us as far away from the duo as it could. To make matters worse, hail was chucked from the sky, hitting both Swanna and I to slow our progress.
We weren't going to have a storm stop us. Not when this was a matter of life or death for everyone. The fate of Unova was in our hands, and to be honest, I never thought it would ever get to this point when Team Miasma first came. Thinking about it, I guess I never saw them ever getting this far because organizations like this are usually disbanded.
Unova just didn't have the strong Trainers anymore. At least, not the strong ones that defeated Team Plasma. No one knows what happened to them, but I realize that was why Rudi went undercover to stop this organization. With him busy, I had to fill in that spot.
I would have never imagine this ever happening. Not when I was convinced that he was doing this for fun. Had I known everything he did to keep Unova safe from Team Miasma, maybe I would've seen him differently, but I always saw it as an act.
I know better now.
The hail and snow got worse the farther we flew, which only meant one thing. Swanna and I were getting close to reaching Taipan and his new legendary. Thinking about what he said, he called this Pokémon "White Kyurem" as if this Pokémon was the new and improved Kyurem.
Of course, this Pokémon looked somewhat like Reshiram, meaning if Reshiram was a part of this new Pokémon, then maybe there was a way to snap the legendary out of it, just like we did with Zekrom.
"Swanna," I whispered as I buried my head in his neck for him to hear, "We're almost there. You can do it."
The Pokémon gave a curt nod and flew faster than before. I had to tighten my grip on his feathers just to stay on. The ice and snow started to come down harder that it was just sheets of ice.
Sheets of ice and snow seemed to be the worst thing that could happen, but then, it turned to swirls of sand. The good news was that I could see a man riding the White Kyurem, but I had to shield my eyes from the storm.
For once I wanted the snow and ice to return.
Seeing the enemy so close, Swanna flew as fast as he could until we caught up with the Taipan and the White Kyurem. I whispered into Swanna's feathers. Within seconds, the Pokémon slowed down and sent a water pulse towards the the legendary Pokémon.
White Kyurem stumbled towards the ground as the pool of water hit. Taipan leapt off his Pokémon and turned towards Swanna and me.
I mimicked the movements and leapt off of my Pokémon, and looked the man in the eyes, "I said it was over back there, Taipan. Stop this before it's too late."
"You honestly think there's hope?" Taipan laughed, "Ridiculous. You superheroes are all the same. You know what happens when we will fall? We just come back stronger. Why do you think Team Plasma made a comeback? They will only come back. Evil doesn't rest."
"And good always wins," I countered.
Tapain smirked, "Just like your mother. You know how she and the Unfeazant died, or did Braviary Man forget to tell you that too?"
"I don't want to hear about my parents," I yelled, "I want to see you disbanded once and for all. Swanna, use water pulse."
The attack took Taipan by surprise he didn't call for an attack. This allowed the White Kyurem to be hit head on, sliding backwards.
At least I could land an attack on a legendary that is twice as powerful.
"You'll regret that, just like the day Swanna Woman started getting the word out on Team Plasma. White Kyurem, use fusion flare."
"Swanna, push it back with water pulse!" I yelled.
Fusion flare flew towards Swanna, but being a fire type move, it wasn't as effective as Swanna's water pulse. Being that this was a legendary attack, the moves clashed together before making a huge explosion. While Swanna wasn't hurt, he flew back a bit.
"Let's use air slash!" I cheered on my Pokémon.
"Dragon breath," Taipan countered.
Taipan must've been stalling because if I'm not mistaken, dragon breath was one of the weakest dragon type. I watched as the White Kyurem used dragon breath on Swanna, but miss as the air slash turned the attack around to hit the legendary back.
"Your parents did me a great favor by trying to expose Team Plasma, only, they were a decade too early," Taipan taunted, "Now, White Kyurem, use snowstorm!"
The sandstorm that stirred around quickly changed to sheets of ice and snow. Both the legendary and my own Pokémon were practically hidden due to their white coloring.
"Why don't I tell you a little story of how your parents died," Taipan warned. "Then you and your Pokémon can join them, leaving this new world to me."
"Stop your blabbering and start battling," I screamed, "Swanna, use gust!"
A gust of wind blew the sleet and hail, creating a mini blizzard that plummeted into the White Kyrurem. I smiled as I got lucky. The move didn't do much damage, but it was a direct hit.
"You're parents retired from their work," The leader of Team Miasma continued on anyways, "They would've been safe if they stayed that way, yet, fifteen years ago, they had to figure out if anything bad was going on."
"Use ice beam, Swanna!" I yelled, not interested in what Taipan wanted to say.
I knew this tactic. He wanted to break me. Once that happened, I would be too distracted to fight. That wasn't going to happen. This man took away my trusted partner. There was no way I was going to let him get away from me.
The ice beam shot towards the White Kyurem, but it was flung away as if it was nothing. With that, Taipan kept on talking.
"They knew the consequences of what would happen if they got involved once again. They must've missed the action the minute they started their mediocre lives," Taipan taunted, "Will you do the same if you make it out? Will you be as weak as them?"
His words weren't making sense. Then again, I had to remind myself this was the leader of Team Miasma. Taipan was just trying to get inside my head, trying to get me to freeze. I had to admit, if I wasn't thinking the lives at stake here, I might have let him get under my skin, but even then the chances were skim. There was no way I was going to give in.
"Water pulse, Swanna," I yelled.
A ring of water flung into the snowy abyss that blinded whatever was going on from here. If only Swanna knew a move to change the weather. I could change the odds of winning. All I needed to do was change the weather to anything, whether it be rain, a snowstorm, anything to get rid of this snowstorm.
That was when an idea hit me. I grabbed Rena's Poké Ball she had lent me and threw it out. Lilligant popped out, confused as to what was happening and snuggled towards my leg. I guess she wasn't sure why she was thrown out here when her Trainer was in danger.
I pointed towards the sky, and gave Lilligant my next command, "Use sunny day!"
Lilligant raised her leafed hands in the air as snowstorm slowly passed away. With the storm out of the way, we had one less obstacle to worry about. Meanwhile, I noticed Swanna taking the initiative to send another attack at the legendary Pokémon. White Kyurem was prepared for this attack and started to fall down.
I didn't have much time to waste as I sprinted out of the way before it was too late. The White Kyurem fell right to where I was standing, barely having a chance to get up. A sigh escaped my lips as the legendary laid only a foot away from me. If I was just a hair slower, I wouldn't have made it.
As I looked at the legendary Pokémon, I realized the battle wasn't over yet. Guess being a legendary meant enduring attacks, even when shot down. I watched the Pokémon as it stood up, showing the few scratches it earned from Swanna's attacks.
"Two on one isn't fair," Taipan argued. I looked up at him as he grabbed a Dusk Ball from his belt, "Maybe it will be best to even out these odds."
Taipan threw out the Poke Ball, releasing the purple Pokémon with unforgettable red eyes. My body froze for a second as I recognized the new opponent. If being afraid of close quarters and dark places weren't bad enough, this Pokémon made it worse. I wouldn't have had any kind of irrational fear of tight spaces if it wasn't for this particular Pokémon.
Now, I had to battle it.
I wasn't ready.
Seeing my sudden change put a smile on Taipan's face, "I can see you can somewhat recognize my Gengar. True, this Pokémon isn't from Unova, but the only people to have seen him usually have a bad experience. Can't be much of a superhero if you're afraid, now can you?"
Swanna flew beside me, while Lilligant tried giving me a reassuring smile. No, I couldn't let myself be afraid. I wasn't alone. I had my Pokémon and Liligant by my side. My hands balled into fists as I slowly took some deep breaths. A part of me wanted to run away from the man who started all the nightmares, and the Pokémon who made it happen.
If I did that, all of Unova would suffer. They had Reshiram. I remember what Rudi told me when I agreed to even be a superhero. Team Miasma wouldn't stop with just Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem. They wanted the world to suffer with all the legendaries in their hands. I didn't know much about the Unova legendaries, but one thing was for certain. It would be a lot worse if they got their hands on more.
Everything in me may have screamed not to go through with it, but I took a step forward, looking Taipan in the eyes.
"I'm not afraid, not anymore," I declared, "And I will not stop until all of Team Miasma has been stopped, so beware as I am your worst nightmare coming to haunt you."
And like that, Swanna flew into the air as Lilligant readied herself because the real battle was just beginning.
