Chapter 21: Rematch at Midnight

Midnight at the Nimbasa Ferris wheel had to be one of the most most terrifying things I've ever done. The last time I was here, Team Miasma nearly destroyed this city. I could barely stop them that time. To make matters worse, we had to meet at the Ferris wheel.

Call it an irrational fear, but just standing beside the lit up carnival ride made me nauseous. Maybe they knew about my fear and were using it against me. I looked up, seeing all the cars secured inside the circular framework of the ride. Considering how long ago the incident was, the ride seemed to be back to its original state, yet, all I could think about was that moment when I was stuck inside, feeling trapped.

Just like the first time I've encountered Team Miasma.

Tearing my gaze from the Ferris wheel, I tried distracting myself with different thoughts, but the memories just kept coming. The feeling of being trapped, useless, and scared wasn't something I found pleasant.

That was when I saw a girl walking towards me wearing a long winter coat and an oversized sun hat as if she was trying to hide all her features. Everything about her seemed suspicious, as if she wasn't supposed to be here. The girl didn't have to step into the light to show an emblem patched onto her coat. Even if she didn't have one, I knew which organization she belonged to.

"Well, well, well, looks like we get the chance to meet once again," Gila sneered, "Are you ready for a rematch?"

"Where is Braviary Man?" I asked.

The young admin laughed, "Oh, you're funny. Did you really think we'd let him go that easily? How pathetic."

My hands tightened around the map that was secured in my hand,  "We had a deal."

"His sister and I had a deal. I don't see her anywhere," Gila observed, "So tell me, where did little Miss. Scaredy-Pants go?"

Rena was here, hiding to make sure everything went smoothly. Knowing that Team Miasma didn't play fair, we had come up with a back up plan of our own. She hid in one of the bushes, with her Pokémon nearby, just so we could finally stop Team Miasma once and for all.

"None of your concern," I sneered.

"It isn't? Shame. Guess there will be no witnesses," She said, taking out a single Poké Ball from her pocket.

With a flick of her wrist, the Team Miasma Admin threw out her Pokémon right under the lamp post. The serpentine Pokémon wrapped around itself turned his head towards me, hissing. I noticed his red eyes glaring into my soul as he bared his fangs towards me. There was only one time I've seen this Pokémon at the Pokémon Center. With black scales adorned with gold diamonds down his back and slashes of purple around his body, I knew this Pokémon was the poison type, Seviper.

I didn't hesitate taking my free hand and throwing Swanna out into battle. My white Pokémon flew into the air, carefully keeping her eyes on the Pokémon. If we made one wrong move, it could be over for all of us.

To think, there was a time when I thought there were only three of them. Between Hunter and Archer, I just assumed Lantana was plotting something else. Now, I had Gila to worry about. If she was anything like her female colleague, then I would have no problem beating her in battle. However, if she was anything like the Krait twins, then I would have to work hard in finding a way to defeat her. No matter what, I had to keep my guard up.

Especially since she took the first move.

"Poison sting!" Gila yelled, pointing towards Swanna.

"Dodge it!" I screamed, "Then counter with hydro pump!"

Despite the darkness surrounding us, Swanna did what was asked, weaving past the poison sting and shooting back with a powerful water attack. I watched as the Seviper didn't even flinch at the attack, and his Trainer didn't give him any warning. It was at this time I thought the Pokémon was going to be hit.

"Swallow with bite," Said the admin at last minute.

My eyes widened as I watched the fangs of the Pokémon engulf the hydro pump into his mouth. As a result, the Seviper swelled up like a balloon until it swallowed all the water. There was no way that should have happened. It's impossible!

"You're not the only one with tricks up her sleeves," Gila taunted, "I have a few tricks as well. Throw it back!"

I didn't have time to process what happened. Seviper opened his mouth and shot the attack on Swanna, hitting her straight on. My Pokémon flew backwards, but being that it was a water attack, it didn't do much damage. Well, as much damage as it could have at least. It was when Swanna flew up to recover I knew we were in for a challenging battle.

Looks like I had to switch tactics very quickly, "Swanna, use attract!"

"That trick again? Bravairy Man taught you nothing. Use haze, Seviper!" She yelled.

As hearts flew, the opposing Pokémon opened his mouth, releasing a fog that hid everything. I tried looking around, seeing as to where Swanna was too, but nothing could be seen. There was only one thing I could do.

"Clear the fog with your wings, Swanna!" I yelled.

The wind brushed past me as she cleared the playing field, only, this time, we had faced yet another problem. While I was worried about Swanna clearing the fog, I must not have heard it's Trainer give another command. Seviper's tail lit up in purple and was flying straight towards my Pokémon.

"Counter with steel wing!" I yelled.

Swanna swung her wing to hit Seviper right on it's tail. While they froze, an idea popped in my mind.

"Use attract!"

Without hesitation, hearts swarmed around Seviper, causing the serpent to fall down. His tail dimmed down, but I knew better than to stop right there. Sevipers were known to sneak and strike at any given moment. I wasn't going to let that trick fool me. Who knows when the attract will fade off. I just had to think fast before the Pokémon snaps out of it.

"Return," Gila said, as a red light wrapped the Pokémon. She looked up at me, so I could see her face. Well, I would've seen it if she didn't stay hidden in the shadows, "You are tough, but my team of serpents will force you to use other Pokémon one by one."

Without announcing her second Pokémon, she tossed the Poké Ball into the air. Out of the light popped out a Pokémon far different from the first. This one flew into the air, swerving in and out of the light to show it's speed. It was when this Pokémon was inside the light I noticed a bone twisted on top of the Pokémon's brown feathers.

First Seviper, and now a Mandibuzz, I just had one question to ask. How was a Mandibuzz a Pokémon that would be remotely close to a serpent? This Pokémon was anything but cunning and smart. I've helped healed a couple of them before. The only thing they had in common with a serpent Pokémon was how vicious they could be. It was unfair to classify any Pokémon as purely evil though because there was always that one that made an exception.

Looking at Mandibuzz, I could tell this Pokémon wasn't going to be that special Pokémon exception.

"Dark pulse," Gila yelled.

"Dodge and use hydro pump!" I tried.

Had that Mandibuzz been a boy, I would've started with attract, but I couldn't. For some odd reason, that Pokémon could only be a girl. I just had to find other ways of slowing her attacks.

Mandibuzz was quicker than Swanna, and hit her head on with the dark pulse attack. Swanna dropped to the ground, struggling to get up. I would've ran to her side to see if she could really go on, but the Team Miasma Admin stopped me.

"Quick! Hit it with feint attack!" She yelled.

As quickly as the Mandibuzz disappeared, she reappeared behind Swanna, hitting her right in the back. She couldn't handle this. I plucked her Poké Ball off my belt and held it up to return her.

"Scared?" She mocked.

"No," I stated, as Swanna returned, "I just don't want to see my Pokémon get hurt."

"Some superhero you are. That's fine. Makes my job a lot easier for me," Gila claimed, as her Mandibuzz flew by her side, "Now, about my map."

"You're not getting it," I argued, "A deal's a deal. Hand Braviary Man over right now."

"So what? I can get tricked? I know how you supers work. I'm not a Slowpoke," She claimed as she snapped her fingers.

I didn't get why she did, until something tackled me to the ground, wrapping its slimy skin around me. My eyes widened as I couldn't move my arms. My heart started to accelerate as I couldn't move a muscle.

It took every ounce of strength I had to look up at the girl, finding her hat still covering her face. She bent down, snatched the map out of my hands and looked at me. Whether or not she could see my terrified face, I wasn't sure.

All I could do was watch as the unknown serpent wrapped around my body. I would've looked to see what kind of Pokémon it was, but that was when the street lamp above us flickered out, leaving us in complete and utter darkness.

The serpent Pokémon took it's time tightly wrapping itself around me until I felt like I couldn't breath. Slowly, I tried taking deep breaths, trying to keep the air going, but that was when the darkness enclosed on me as all the air left my body.

All I could feel was a heaviness surrounding me.
