Chapter 11: The Krait Twins
The Battle Station was well lit, but as I looked around, I noticed the lights started to flicker ahead. Something was definitely wrong. A cool breeze brushed against my cheek, sending shivers down my spine. Swanna flew beside me, not taking her chances of landing until our work was done.
That Team Miasma grunt told me it should be filled with people, and yet, I didn't even see one. We ran inside, finding ourselves by the train tracks. A part of me wanted to run on them and see where these trains were, but if Team Miasma was behind this, well, it wouldn't be exactly smart to do that. Just like Braviary Man and I wanted to put a stop to them, they wanted to put a stop to us.
"Look at this, Scrafty," someone's voice echoed through this place. "Looks like someone here wants to play."
I turned around, seeing nothing but flickering lights and a few speakers that hung from the walls. While I knew Swanna was beside me, I grabbed her Poké Ball for support.
"Come on out," I yelled.
"Don't you want to play a game?" another voice creepily asked.
"No!" I squeaked, before clearing my throat. "I want you all to leave Unova and never come back."
"Quite some fighting words," the first voice noted.
"Too bad Braviary Man can't save you now," the second one said.
I kept turning around to find where these voices were coming from. These voice had to be coming from the speakers, yet, as I listened to their threats, I felt like some of them were louder than others. It wasn't that they were speaking louder at some points; instead, it sounded more like some of the speakers weren't always working. Sometimes, the voices sounded like they were right behind me.
The battle station was empty, leaving me alone with Swanna and the metal poles that held up the ceiling. Luckily, I stood by the nearest staircase. There were three sets of them, along with the long tracks that had to eventually lead out somewhere.
Unlike last time, I wasn't trapped.
"Did he put up a fight?" The first one asked.
"Oh, he's still kicking. Too bad though," the second one sneered, "once he's done saving those civilians, he'll have to deal with Toxicroak."
"Stop it! Show yourselves!" I yelled.
The voices stoped for a moment. After a moment of silence, I heard footsteps. I turned around, seeing no one there.
"Swanna," I whispered, "you see anything?"
My Pokémon shook her head. She flew beside me, knowing it was best we stuck next to each other.
"Awe," a voice cooed, "is someone lost?"
I turned around, seeing the man at the bottom of the stairs, refusing to stand one step closer. He had two Pokémon beside him: a Scrafty and something that I think was a Pokémon. I just know I've never seen it before. The Pokémon was light blue with spikes of light blue and tan on it. It had no face by the looks of it, but the top of the body was pink.
My hands balled up in fists as I looked at the man. He was the one at the Ferris wheel, with a Duskull mask over his face while wearing black clothing that matched his hair. It was impossible to get here without flying, so how was it possible this man was already here?
"Allow me to introduce myself," the man said, bowing down in a mocking manner. "Name's Hunter, Hunter Krait, though that won't matter now, will it? You're not going to remember much afterwards"
"That's not going to happen," I argued.
"Oh really?" Hunter stood up, pulling his hand over his mask. "You know why I wear this mask? Besides my colleagues, the only people who see it won't remember. Want to join them?"
Wow this guy was creepier than a Mr. Mime. I looked at Swanna and gave her a quick nod. Knowing what I meant, the Pokémon swooped in towards Hunter's Scrafty and used peck.
Swanna didn't make it though. The round spiky Pokémon lifted two of it's--I think they were arms--showing a small, disturbing, pink Pokémon with yellow eyes inside. On the flip side of these arms, the light blue turned to a deep purple-blue color, with pink spikes. This didn't matter though. What mattered was that it made a protective barrier around Hunter and his two Pokémon.
My Swanna flung backwards, slamming into the ground. As soon as she hit the ground, she flung up, refusing to be defeated.
"Toxapex doesn't go down easily, didn't Braviary Man warn you?" Hunter asked. "I'm the only member of Team Miasma he's met and hasn't won."
Suddenly, things started making sense. That's what Braviary Man was so quick to get out of the Ferris wheel. He knew who we'd be up against.
Now it was up for me to finish the job.
"What an honor," I smirked.
Hunter took a step off the stairs, standing on the cement floor. "Honor?"
"That I'll be the first," I explained. "Hydro pump, lets go!"
Swanna shot her hydro pump so fast, Scrafty didn't even have time to dodge or for Toxapex to use protect. I smiled.
"Scrafty, use feint attack," Hunter called. "Toxapex, poison sting."
"Double team, Swanna!" I yelled.
Swanna multiplied into twenty different copies. Because of this, Scrafty hit the wrong one and ended up being a victim for Toxapex's poison sting. I smiled, as the Toxapex looked around, trying to find the real Swanna.
Little did they know she was right behind Hunter. Attack now, they'd know. Linger, they'd know.
Better now than later.
"Water pulse!" I yelled.
All copies of Swanna used the attack. The real one flew up, using the attack from above. None of Hunter's Pokémon moved as they just stood there, enduring the attack. I smiled. This wouldn't just be a victory if I won. I could say I defeated Hunter in front of Rudi. If I won that is.
Scrafty and Toxapex were injured from the attack, but while Scrafty was the only one to receive any real damage, Toxapex looked a bit confused. I didn't say anything, having Swanna use her next attack.
"Peck on Scrafty," I told her.
"Dodge and use Thunder Punch," Hunter instructed, "and Toxapex, use pin missile."
Scrafty dodged the attack, causing Swanna to land face first in the ground. Her copies disappeared not long afterwards. The fighting type Pokémon ran up to her and used Thunder Punch, which caused a colossal amount of damage.
As for Toxapex, that Pokémon looked at Swanna, then at Scrafty before using pin missile. The Pokémon missed the target, hitting Scrafty instead.
Hunter's Scrafty wasn't too happy about this and leapt up, about ready to fight his fellow teammate. While I couldn't see Hunter's face behind the Duskull mask, I could tell he was angry. His hands balled up in fists while his whole body tensed.
I couldn't get cocky. That must've been Rudi's approach whenever he battled this guy. I could see him being the type of person to be cocky and making Hunter angry. If I wanted to win, I had to remain calm and deal with this my way.
While Scrafty was about ready to attack Toxapex, I saw Swanna stand up. This was our chance.
"Use surf," I instructed.
A wave of water appeared. Hunter and his Pokémon snapped their attention towards it. I could tell that they were surprised by the sudden attack. The wave hid them, and the time it disappeared, I noticed both Toxapex and Scrafty didn't even looked like they were touched by the attack.
Of course. Toxapex could be confused, but that didn't mean it could perform an attack or two. Protect was the perfect move to do.
"Let's finish this," Hunter announced. "Scrafty use brick break. Toxapex, use poison sting."
Swanna looked back at me, giving me an assuring smile. I wasn't sure what she was thinking, but I nodded. "Do it."
My Pokémon flew up in the air as Scrafty prepared his attack. Toxapex shot a poison sting, but Swanna dodge. I noticed Scrafty was going to pounce when hearts escaped from Swanna and landed on both opposing Pokémon.
Hearts filled their eyes.
I couldn't believe it. Watching Braviary and Audino's attract must've rubbed off on Swanna. For once, I was glad I figured out how to get passed that move, even if it meant barely getting any sleep last night.
"How about we finish it with surf," I countered.
On cue, Swanna threw the attack on the Pokémon. When the wave disappeared, the two Pokémon laid on the ground, down for the count.
Hunter grabbed the sides of his head. "How? That isn't possible! We—we never lose!"
"There's a first for everything," I said, "so leave."
The man behind the Duskull mask shook his head. "I'm following orders. Just because you stopped my Pokémon doesn't mean you've stopped me."
That was when someone grabbed my shoulders and turned me around. My eyes widened. How'd he get from one side to the other in seconds? The man reached for my mask to take it off, but Swanna was quicker. She tackled the attacker before he could think of it.
The man laid on the ground, unconscious. I took a step back, seeing the man still breathing. A breath of fresh air escaped my lips. I don't know how I could stand knowing I could've taken someone's life. That man might have worked for Team Miasma, but that didn't mean I wanted them dead.
"Archer!" Hunter's voice screamed.
Someone bumped into me, causing me to stumble a few steps. I watched as there were two of them: two men in black wearing Duskull masks. My eyes widened. I thought there was just one of them.
Hunter, who I'm assuming was the one behind me and the one who ran into me, knelt down beside the other man in the Duskull mask. I'm assuming that would've been Archer. It didn't make any sense, but I watched as Hunter laid his hand on Archer's chest, before looking back.
That's all he did. He didn't say a word, no gestures or anything. Hunter just stared back at me. He grabbed something from his pocket and threw it down. Smoke covered the two bodies and filled my nose. I covered my mouth, but coughed as I did.
When the smoke and smell cleared, I looked up to see no one there. There wasn't even a clue as the where they went either. It was hard to tell they were even there.
I looked up at Swanna, giving her a nod. She flew up to me and I grabbed her leg, flying out of the Battle Subway. As we flew, I noticed a screen on top of the Musical Hall showing a video of Swanna and me flying out of there. That must've been the reason why that Team Miasma member ran in there. They just wanted to create more fear in Unova.
People cheered as I flew up and out of the city.
(-o-)
Rudi paced back and forth as we all gathered in a small room. After we made sure Team Miasma disappeared from Nimbasa, we ran straight back here, letting Rudi's parents know we made it back safely. I watched his arm as he did so, seeing my poor excuse for a sling wrap around it.
He didn't break his hand when he broke us out of the Ferris wheel car. It was the other hand he broke as he punched Archer Krait in the face. I didn't ask. None of us did. Rudi was pretty beat up, worse than his Braviary I had already healed up. After I healed the Pokémon, Braviary decided to thank me by using a slash attack on me.
I couldn't do anything to defend myself. Not only that, but I should've known the Pokémon would've gone on a rampage afterwards seeing that I still needed to learn how to be gentle when healing. Luckily, Rudi returned his Pokémon before any more damage could be done.
That didn't help the fact that Rudi still stood there with a broken hand.
Rena stood behind the table beside her dad, studying a note Rudi found while fighting. When Archer left, something fell out of his pocket. Because of how fast they left the city, except for the Ferris wheel, everything else seemed intact. The police didn't even find anything in the Music Hall, which I found funny as I remembered seeing a Team Miasma grunt inside.
The only reason why we couldn't go there was because Rena warned Rudi to go on that Ferris wheel. While it was an odd request, I think it was as a warning to see the whole city for any clues. I blew that chance.
Still, I couldn't help but to wonder why the only thing that changed in the Music Hall was that the screen showed footage outside the theater. More so, I wondered why the screen had footage of me.
While those while Rena and Mr. Rhea studied, Ms. Rhea was the only one not present as she was making dinner for everyone. This time, I made sure to warn her about my allergy.
My eyes watched as Rudi paced. He didn't seem to be in any kind of pain from today's events, but I tried to look for little signs. I don't know much about healing people as I do about healing Pokémon, but some Pokémon will hide their pain better than others. True, it was only his hand that was broken, but it was still a broken bone, or bones in his case.
"Oh Arceus no," Mr. Rhea gasped.
Rudi and I snapped our heads towards him.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Dad, what's wrong?" Rudi cautiously asked at the same time.
Mr. Rhea glanced between us, before looking at his daughter. Rena nodded her head. As she did, I had a feeling inside my stomach this was far from good. It wasn't a good sign. There was no way it could be.
His eyes looked directly at me, his face dropped.
"They want you dead," Mr. Rhea revealed.
