70: Admit It
As Zuko slept peacefully next to you, you tossed and turned. Now that you were close to Iroh, you couldn't help but let your worries overrun your mind. Everything you had been pretending wasn't happening suddenly came rushing into your mind and it wasn't making sleeping easy.
Carefully, you extracted yourself from Zuko's grip and went for a walk outside. The cool air felt wonderful against your skin. Zuko's sleeping robe was particularly comfortable as well, albeit perhaps not appropriate for walking around in.
"YN, you will catch a cold walking outside in your pajamas." A familiar voice scolded you from behind a pile of rubble.
"Iroh!" You whipped around to see his friendly face and then you ran towards him and gave him a hug. "Whatcha doin' out so late?"
"I could ask you the same question, dear. But instead, how about we retire to my tent and have some tea?" He smiled as he rubbed your back, leading you towards his quarters.
It was only a short distance away before you were inside and seated on a cozy pillow with delicious green tea in your hands.
"So, what has kept you up so late at night, YN? Do not tell me it is relationship troubles with my nephew?" Iroh asked as he sipped on his tea.
"No, it ain't really that." You sipped on your tea as well. "We been real good. Although I'm nervous fer when we defeat the Fire Lord. What's gonna happen when he sees that pouty gal again? What if he becomes Fire Lord? Do I become Fire Lordess?"
"Fire Queen. And I cannot say, YN. But it seems that you aren't sure about your standing with him. Perhaps you could ask him yourself. You did bring him, correct?"
"Yeah, I brought 'im. We tracked ya down with ya stinky slipper. That lady, June, half-swamp woman, and her Nyla found ya."
"Oh, June is half-swamp? No wonder I liked her so much! You know I have an affinity for those who come from the Swamplands." Iroh chuckled as he playfully tapped your shoulder. "Now tell me, it seems as though you have more on your mind as well. What else is bothering you?"
"If I tell ya, old man, will ya promise not to get mad at me? I got two things." You shifted uncomfortably in your seat. There had indeed been two separate issues you had been keeping to yourself as you traveled along. Both would change a lot of things in your life. Both were keeping you awake right now.
"Why would I get mad at you? You are my favorite niece, you know." He winked at you and you laughed.
"I ain't ya niece!" You laughed. "But fine. Just remember, you promised. A'right."
You exhaled shakily as you began with your first statement.
"I were thinkin' about goin' home. Ain't no place fer me in this battle... Zu's gotta do this on his own anyway..." You began.
"I see why you might think that. And I know you miss your swamp. This is very reasonable, YN, why would I get angry?" He looked at you curiously.
"And I think I'm gonna 'ave 'is baby back there." You shut your eyes tightly, already feeling the heat radiating from the old man.
