58: Reconciliation

And things didn't really seem to get much better the next day. As you and Zuko ventured back into camp, you entered only to find that combustion man or whatever his name was, was wrecking havoc on the entire crew.

"I've got to stop him." Zuko growled. "Please, YN, please help me."

You were taken aback by his asking, but you nodded as he raced forward. The closer you were to your victim, the easier it would be to bed, so you figured it was in your best interest to follow behind; however Zuko was already firing balls of flames and drawing attention towards him.

"Maybe I oughta be a bit sneakier..." You mumbled as you veered off in another direction.

"Stop!" Zuko screamed at the man. "The mission is off. I'm ordering you to stop!"

You watched as Zuko stood in front of the assassin, holding his arms out, as if that would stop him.

You got closer and closer as Zuko was swatted away.

"If you keep attacking, I won't pay you!" Suddenly, Zuko was grabbed and you ran to get in position. "All right, I'll pay you double to stop!"

Taking a centering breath, you focused all your power on this massive man. There was no way you would be able to control him or even freeze him, but you could keep him at less than one hundred percent.

And you had to block everything out around you. All the other fighting, all the other sounds, they left your mind as you focused on making combustion man less effective.

You felt your own heart beat in your ears as you closed your eyes and focused on exactly what you could do: blood bend.

And eventually, you felt the heartbeat of the large man fall further and further away.

Exhausted, you sat on the ground, far away from many people, you spotted Zuko climbing up a plant root, approaching the crew. You wished you could hear what they were saying, but you were too exhausted to travel down there. But as you watched, you noticed that Zuko didn't walk away from them; and that felt good. That felt like he might, just might, get a chance.

And so you laid down and took a nap.

"I won't let you down! I promise!" Zuko cheered at his acceptance. "Ah, but, uh, before we go... I have to go find YN."

"Oh, yeah, she'd probably be really upset if you left her." Aang admitted.

And so Zuko had to spend the next half hour searching for you. And when he finally found you, he smiled. Things were finally looking up for him.

As he hoisted your body up onto his own, he stroked your hair. It felt so right to be with you. Inhaling deeply, he enjoyed holding you closely. When you had first met him, he had to admit that you smelled pretty bad. And he had smelled pretty rough too, but you were a mix of sweat, decomposition and still water. It was gross, but once the sweat and most of the decomposition was gone, you still smelled like the swamp, but a more comforting version.

No. He shook his head. YN is just comforting.
