10: Jealousy Emerges
"Why are you looking at him like that?" Zuko asked, jealously.
"Like what? I ain't lookin' at him any particular way!" You grouched back.
"Just because he's some teenage rebel against the fire nation doesn't make him a good person!"
"I don't care if he's good or not! I don't give a catgator's tail about 'im! Why are you so stuck on this?"
"He knows we're fire benders! He hates us!"
"I ain't no fire bender." You stated matter-of-factly.
"What? So you love him and he can love you too?"
"Zuko! Honestly, how can you argue about such a thing that may not even exist. He does not know anything. Simply look around you and relax. We are going to the beautiful city of Ba Sing Se with people who are filled with hope!" Iroh butted in before Zuko became totally irrational.
"Old man, these people are refugees, runnin' from your nation's terror. Just 'cause you saw a baby, don't mean things are going good." You responded icily. Perhaps to the Great General Iroh, this could be a vacation, but you understood how these people felt. They couldn't protect their land like your tribe could and now they had to go to a new and scary place.
"My apologies, YN. I just get so excited when it comes to trying out new types of tea."
"Besides, what's it matter if I think Jet's good lookin' with a good cause?" You added in coyly. You thought the guy was a little off, with his pure justice demeanor, but he wasn't too bad to look at. Plus, it made Zuko angry.
"Keep her away from me!" Zuko could barely contain his rage and his flames as he stopped off the bench as the train came to a stop.
You laughed, and Iroh punched you in the shoulder, leading you to snort. This in turn made Iroh laugh until you both were in a fit a giggles.
"We're going!" Zuko yelled, dramatically.
As both you and Iroh finally got up, you asked him what the plan was.
"Work. Get his mind off the avatar. Perhaps you can help?" he looked at you knowingly.
"Perhaps I can." You wiggled your eyebrows at him and dissolved into laughter once again.
That night, you stayed in a temporary refugee shelter on mats. It had been a very long day. As Zuko and Iroh traveled around looking for work, they had hassled you about getting new clothes.
"Why don't you get some clothes a little more... native? Like a souveneir from the Earth Kingdom. I'm sure your friends back home would like to see them." Iroh had lightly suggested. Zuko had been ignoring you for most the the day now.
"I'm comfy in this." You responded calmly.
"YN... you attract a lot of... attention... attention that we don't really need. I would really appreciate if you understand what I'm saying" Iroh continued.
"I don't get it." You retorted.
"You look like a prostitute, YN." Zuko groaned, tired of his uncle's pussy-footing.
"A what?" You asked, confused.
"Like you sell sex for money as a job."
"Oh I don't do that."
"Well you look like you do. Look around. These women are fully clothed. You're making it too hard to get a job."
"Old man, is that true?" You looked at him, eyes wide.
Iroh could only nod. He hadn't wanted to be so blunt, but it was true.
And so now, you were in your light flowing night dress, looking at your new clothes. A black crop top, flowing green pants and boots that wrapped around your calves. As you ran your fingers over the soft cloth, familiar fingers ran over your waist. It was Zuko.
"You don't... really like him, do you?" He asked, burying his head in your hair.
"Nah. I'm much more interested in you." You snuggled into him, enjoying the intimate moment.
"I got this for you." a necklace appeared before your eyes. It was a simple stone circle. "It's... all I could afford. But I promise, when I'm prince again, I'll get you any jewel you could ever want."
"I don't need none of that. I just like this." You allowed him to place the necklace around your neck and you turned to look at him. In the dark, he couldn't see your face coming near, but he felt as your delicate lips pressed on his. "And I like this too."
