Shooting Star (Part 1)

"Yet another mysterious battle was being filmed as the team super hero many are calling Shooting Star was seen last night battling yet another monster last night at around three o'clo-"
"Kids!" Mrs. Diaz shouts up the stairs as she wiped her hands on a small towel, "Breakfast!"
"Coming!" Star calls as she bounces down the stairs with a huge smile stretched on her pale face. "It smells really good."
"I'm glad." Mrs. Diaz leads the new foreign exchange student to the table where pancakes and bacon sat still steaming. As Star sits down, Mrs. Diaz leans back out of the dining room and shouts, "Marco? You coming?"
"Yeah yeah yeah." A muffled voice replies from up the stairs. Mrs. Diaz walks back into the kitchen as a tan boy appears on the stairs. He peers over the railing at the blond girl as she lifts up the entire pancake and pulls at it with her teeth. Marco leaned there, narrowing his brown eyes at her. He knew something was up with his new foreign exchange student. He knew Star was a little more foreign then she led on. Marco was no fool, he was the head investigator at his school paper. He was a psychologist in training, he got how the human mind worked. He knew the dirt about everyone in school- sometimes before it happened- and was not known for keeping a secret from the world. He holds Echo Creek Academy record for the most headlines in his first year of writing and exposed more secrets about businesses and students than anyone could hope.
And he knew Star was hiding something.
"Good morning, Star." He says as he slides into his seat like he was joining her for a formal dinner at a fancy restaurant.
"Morning Marco!" Star pushes some pancakes at him. "You want some pancakes?"
"Thanks." Marco studies the girl as she takes a sip of her orange juice. She certainly looked human, had everyone else fooled. But Marco was smarter. She had said she was from Montreal, but lacked any knowledge of Canada. She was confused by a water fountain and thought everyone in Echo Creeks' name was Diaz. Marco was no fool, what other called quirky he called suspicious.
Man he wished he could wear his sweater vest but it was 95° out.
"Uh Marco?" Star's blue eyes connected with the boy's. "Why are you staring at me?"
Marco choked on his pancakes a little. "What? I'm not staring!" (He wasn't very cool under pressure)
"Uh..." Star scratched her head as she took another bite of bacon.
"Hey uh where are you from again?" Marco asks.
"M- Montreal?" Star says, playing with her blond hair a little.
"In France?" Marco sits up straighter.
"Yeah." Star nods.
"Aha!" Marco stands up hitting the table a little. "Montreal is in Canada."
"It's a small kingdom." Star snaps back as she rose too. "I mean village!"
Marco stops as the two narrow eyes, they stood in dead silence until Star's phone rings loudly.
"Oops!" Star smiles as she reaches for her star-shaped bag. "I need to take this!" Star ducks out as Marco slumps back into his chair.
"Marco take it easy on Star." Mr. Diaz rests his hand on Marco's shoulder.
"I know." Marco got up and wondered over to the TV, staring at the news feed. "I just can't shake the feeling she's lying or hiding something big."
"We'll try to get your mind off of it!" Mr. Diaz holds Marco's empty plate and smiles at the boy. "Maybe focus on the new news story?"
"You mean Shooting Star?" Marco scoffs as the TV shows a bright flash battling a monster and winning. "Yeah I guess so."

That night it was silent.
Until it wouldn't be, of course. Marco sat perched on the roof of a tall building alone. He had invited Star to come (his dad insisted) but she declined and so he was alone. He had a folding chair and sat with his red hood up and his laptop open, already hooked up to video camera. And he sat, waiting. It was strangely cold out for a night so warm.
"What the heck is that!?" Marco screams as he zooms in with his laptop. It was blurry, but Marco could make out a soft glow. He followed the choppy figure, but all he could see was a glowing mess.
Then there was a lot more light. An explosion of light and an actual explosion. Marco threw down his laptop and ran towards the edge of the building, pulling out his photographic camera from around his neck. He looks through the lens down to see Shooting Star on the edge of another building. She had long blond hair, so long it touched her feet and eyes that flowed a powerful blue. She wore a black mask over her face and pink boots. She had pink fingerless gloves and a white, black and pink skin tight shirt that had a symbols cut on the sides. With a small skirt over a pair of leggings and a cape, the soft wind caught her outfit with a lot of drama.
"No way." Marco squeals like a fangirl meeting her hero (so if Liver met Alex Hirsch) and took a few shots quickly.
"Ludo I'll give you one chance to return to your dimension!" Shooting Star declares, her voice booming through the silent streets.
A high-pitched but raspy and shrill voice rebuttals with a simple, "No way, Princess."
"Princess?" Marco types the word into his phone. "Shooting Star is some sort of magical Princess?"
"Then the hard way it is!" Shooting Star leaped into the air and disappears, leaving both Marco and the monster in shock. Suddenly there was a bright flash and a long scream from Ludo. Growling could be heard from the dark shadows as monster after monster piles out and grabs at the girl.
"Pay attention," The super hero's snarky voice rings powerfully, "and you'll see why I'm not even scared."
Her body lights up golden and she blasts the monster's off of her with a sudden burst of energy. Her eyes lefts light blue trail to the human eye when she moved, and her skin had golden designs glowing off of them. Her tight outfit was also thin, and symbols could be captured in their entirety by Marco's camera, which was flashing violently.
"This is perfection!" He laughs. "Front page here I come!"
Shooting Star lands a final blow with a mix of blue and gold light and the monster is left with a burn mark in its gut. She confidently walks up Ludo and stands there, smirking.
"You want some of this, Ludo?" She teases.
"Yes! Give me your magic!" The bird man jumps at the girl but she just kicks the cow skull right off of his head.
"I got something better!" She twirls a pair of fancy scissors in her hands.
"Scissors?" Marco laughs a little. The teen begins to cut at air and a dark portal stretches out.
"See yourself out, Ludo?" Shooting Star walks towards him and makes a scary face. "Boo."
The monster's skin jumps and then he swivels through the portal followed by a group of hurt and broken monsters. Shooting Star makes snide jokes, acting like they were a football team that just lost and she was their coach. She was having so much fun teasing them she didn't notice how fast Marco had slide down onto the roof she was on
Or the lizard man making his unnoticeable exit silently on another rooftop.
As the last monster went through, the portal closes with a shloop and Shooting Star sighs in content. Her magic dies down, her skin stops glowing and her eyes loose their spark and her hair retracts back so it only hits her knees.
"Good work, if I do say so myself-" She starts complimenting herself.
"That was awesome!" Marco cheers. He knew it was best to compliment the target before exploiting their deepest darkest secrets.
"Huh?" The powerless-superhero turns around in shock.
"You were like blam blam blam and those monsters were like ahhh and the little bird man was like hrph humbug and you like KAPOW!"
The heroin lets out a nervous laugh and says quietly. "Yeah that was it."
Marco opens his phone to his notes file, "So do you mind if I ask a few questions!?"
Shooting Star stands shocked on the dark rooftop. She coughs and says almost silent, "Not tonight. Maybe another-"
"Wait a second." Marco takes a step towards her. "Star?"
The teen's face turned redder than a bowl of punch. "What? It's Shooting Star-"
"Star." Marco puts away his phone. "I know it's you."
Star thinks of what to say, but then admits defeat. She plops to the ground. "Yeah."
Marco was still shocked, "Yeah!? You're the girl who sleeps in the room next to me!?"
She leans on her hand. "Yeah."
Marco began to hyperventilate a little, "But like- you have- and those things are- and you can- what!?"
"Yeah. I have powers."
"What? How!?"
"I'm not from Montreal." Star begins as Marco sits down next to her. "I'm from Mewni."
"Mewni?"
"It's a kingdom in another dimension. And their I'm a princess."
"Woah seriously!?"
"Yep. And I have magical powers and my parents sent me here because I caused a rainbow to explode part of our kingdom and so I figured I have these unique powers might as well use them and then I got my hands on this Marvel comic and saw how you have super hero's so I was like "oh perfect" and so yeah."
"But what about the you know... monsters?"
"Thy are after me. They want my magic.
Marco was stunned. "So you're not human?"
"Nope." Star lies on her back.
"I KNEW IT!" Marco cheers to himself. "Yes yes yes yes I was TOTALLY RIGHT!"
Star shoots him a look but he doesn't see in the dark.
"I gotta tell everyone this!" He gets up. "Let me get my laptop I have to write this paper now I'll get the front!"
"No!" Star gets up and tackles him. "If you blow my cover everyone will know I was lying! I can't be a magical princess form another dimension! If everyone knows my secret then that'll put everyone in danger!"
"Star that sorta mentality is only in comics." Marco tries to pry her off of him.
"Please please please keep this a secret! I wanna be normal! I'm not normal on Mewni and I'm normal on Earth but if you ruin that I'll be so upset!!" Marco lied there, with her pinning him down and contemplated his life choices.
"You want me. To keep a secret. That could put me on the front page of nation journals. And possibly meet the president?"
"Oh yes oh please oh please oh please!?" Star begs, her blond hair falling onto his face.
Marco lied there and then said the stupidest thing ever. "Fine."
"Really!?" Star's eyes (literally) lit up.
"Yeah." Marco looks away as she gets off of him and jumps up and down, her skirt and cape bouncing as she did.
"Thank you thank you thank you!!!" She screams. "You are the best ever!!!"
"Yeah yeah." Marco dusts himself off and they walk across the roof together, "Let's go get my stuff you... alien super hero girl."
"Okay uh... Human boy."
"Thanks."

[Meanwhile elsewhere]
"I don't get it?" Ludo says in the darkness of his own castle. "There was a boy there?"
"Yes." A silky voice answers from behind a big leather chair. "And it seems he might be the answer to getting what we want."
"Star's power!?" Ludo squeals.
"I have plan." The thing laughs as he folds his hands under his chin, leaning on the desk. "Oh boy do I have a plan."
