BLACKMAIL

Author note: this book is almost over. 2-3 more chapters left, 4 at most... After that I'll be working on Survival of the Fittest (check it out if you haven't) and the rewrite for Forgotten. After I finish Forgotten which will be about 9-10 chapters (not as long as this book) I'll start a new Young Justice Fanfiction. It'll be pretty dark and messed up, and will be a similar length in chapters as this book. I already know what I want, so please don't ask me to do this or that (if you have ideas for me to write, I can make one-shots) and I'm already writing the plot for it. I may put the description on my message board if you want a small idea of what it will be about. Let me know what you think!

Artemis was surprised to see her father sitting causally atop the crate, as if he had expected her.

       And he did expect her.

She had made her way to the area her mother had suggested, and searched all of the buildings top to bottom. It took the archer at least an hour, but finally she found what she had been looking for.

       "Sportsmaster."

"Can't even call me Dad anymore? C'mon baby girl."

The younger blonde scowled with disgust. "No thanks, Sportsmaster." Lawrence's eyes sharpened into a glare, and his knuckles turned white as he gripped the lance in his hands.

The same weapon the villain had used to impale Dick Grayson. However, Artemis was unaware of this. She would be.

"You know baby girl... I used this same weapon to stab your buddy right through the chest." He spoke as he fiddled with the lance, which was about two inches in diameter.
"Your sick." His daughter spat back with a growl emitting from her throat.

A smirk made its way into his face behind his mask, that almost resembled a cage on his face. "Sorry Artemis, he's heard his last bedtime story. Did I mention his screams are like music to my ears?"
"He's alive. I know it." Artemis snarled, trying to reassure herself.

       She was failing at that.

"Gotta run. Good luck finding your friend- the only thing you'll find is his dead body." Sportsmaster taunted. Before his daughter could engage, he threw a small bomb in front of the crate. His body then disappeared through the smoke, and he was nowhere to be seen after it cleared.

The archer wouldn't be fooled that easily. She quickly jumped on top of the crate, and barely saw her father run out of the warehouse from the corner of her eye. Artemis silently praised herself.

Artemis stealthily turned around the corner, watching as Sportsmaster drove away into the night in a black van. By instinct, the blonde instantly grabbed a tracking arrow and shot. The arrow was smaller in size which made it less noticeable, which meant it would be easier to track him.

"I will find you, Grayson."

Meanwhile

Dick's nightmares had only gotten worse. He had not only become mentally damaged, but physically as well.

He began to stutter, shiver, and had thrown up over six times. Cheshire was starting to get a bit worried. And guilty.

Cheshire was sharpening her knives when she heard violent coughing from across the hall. She had planned to get him to the nearest hospital, but he still couldn't stand- and she had no way of transportation. Not to mention her father was not trustworthy. She didn't feel like carrying the little snot over twelve miles.

As she walked in she was welcomed with the wonderful smell of blood, vomit, and sweat. Oh, joy. Jade had a feeling that the bucket next to his bed was going to catch its own disease.

"Are you alright?" She asked empathetically.

Dick gave her a look as if asking, 'what do you think?' And the villainess sighed.

"No answer, bird brain? Yesterday you were talking just fine."

No reply.

"Or maybe you don't want to talk, do you?"

It was true. He didn't want to talk. He did not even want to live. What did he have left? No one was coming for him.

But Cheshire was here.

"I-I am fine." He managed to spit out.
"First time you've talked in 5 hours, good job." Jade sarcastically praised, rolling her eyes a bit, trying to lighten the mood.

He scoffed. "Immediate medical attention w-would be ni-nice."
"No can do. Tomorrow I'll contact a friend for help. The nearest hospital is maybe twenty miles, and I'm not carrying your miserable ass. Especially if your gonna puke on me." Cheshire replied, smirking.

"Get rest, bird brain. Actual rest. I'll get help tomorrow, I promise."

After taking one last look at his pale face and sweat plastered forehead, she left the room with a sigh and the closing of an old wooden door.

Jade was starting to like the kid. She didn't know if it was because she felt bad, or if it was because he always had a snarky comment. She just wanted to help him.

Was it her motherly instinct taking over? Was it because she was going to have her own child soon?

Jade couldn't decide if she was doing this for Lian, or herself.

Back in Gotham

Tracking- easier said than done.

Especially when the person you're tracking finds the tracker and crushes it to pieces, putting you exactly where you started.

Luckily for Artemis that was not the case, and her oblivious father hadn't noticed the tracker. Artemis 1, pathetic dad- 0.

The archer sat behind her computer screen, watching the small red dot move across the digital map. She smiled. The red dot reached the borders of Gotham, and continued outwards to the unknown.

35 minutes later, she was blessed. The dot finally stopped- in the middle of goddamn nowhere. Well, it was still somewhere, but practically the place itself didn't even contribute to society. Barely anyone even lived in that town anymore. So why was her dad there?

Only one way to find out- she grabbed her bow and quiver, and sent the location to her teammate's at Mount Justice. Maybe they could be of help. Hopefully.

Hopping on her motorcycle, she drove out into the night. There was no doubt in the archer's mind that things were about to get a bit insane.

Unidentified Abandoned Town
34 Minutes Later

"How is your work goin' Bowser?" Lawrence asked the other blonde, who was seated in his office.
"I've told you already, dumbass. It's Bauer. You been playing to much Mario?" Bows- I mean, Bauer replied, hastily.

You wouldn't exactly expect an old prison office to look nice, and it wasn't at all. The walls were dirty and the floors were spotted with odd colors. The leather chairs were ripping open, and the metal desk had dents in it- mostly from angry pounding fists. Shelves contained unnecessary and outdated files, and there was even a flower pot; but there was no flower, of course.

"Are you gonna answer my question?" Sportsmaster snapped, rolling his taupe eyes under the metal mask hiding his scowling face.
"Right. It's going great, Grayson got taken by Cheshire and we haven't even finished the testing yet!" The other man shouted sarcastically, waving his arms in a frantically over dramatic way.
"Great going, associate." Lawrence said, returning the sarcasm.

"What do we do now, Sportsmaster? This dumb kid is the key to infiltrate league. We break the kid, we get some answers. He's a walking computer."

"Then we blackmail Cheshire."

Their conversation was finished with a loud crash coming from the hallway, and both of their heads snapped in that direction. The door was busted open, and the duo were met with a surprise.

      "You're not blackmailing anyone, bitches."

At that moment, the female archer was very intimidating.

To be continued...
