*Yes, another online story. I've been ransacking the library shelves for a good, classic, understandable suspense story by an author that was born at least before the 90s and so far, nothing. Oh well, enjoy this interesting tale while I look some more!*

Found it.

He'd finally located the source for his patient's screaming.
There appeared to be a rather large gash on the poor animal's face, very deep with a trickle of blood oozing out of the open wound.

Well, this won't do. There is a piece of flesh where it isn't supposed to be, and is that...bone? This must be fixed immediately.

It was a good thing there wasn't a lot of bleeding, the blood seemed to have clotted very quickly. From the size of the wound, the creature might have died of blood loss before he found the poor thing. He gently laid the animal down onto its back atop the surgical table. Now for the procedure. He realized with sadness that he had no time to administer any anesthesia before he began. The cresture's pained screaming began to crescendo piercingly. He wasted no more time. He carefully eased metal clamps into the wound, holding it open. The screaming only worsened. Moving swiftly, he sprayed a liberal amount of disenfectant into the gash.  The screaming abruptly switched into violent choked cries. He slowly slid the clamps out and reached for the flesh-sealing device. Attaching it to the animal, he sealed the gash shut. The cries became tearful mumbles and soft moaning.

There, there. You'll feel better after a good sleep. I'll come and check on you later.

After making sure everything was in its place, he covered the animal with a soft blanket and left the room.

The man was frozen, terrified as the tall, faceless entity stood up and placed its assortment of sharp metal tools in different cupboards. The man tried to scream, to cry out as the thing covered him in a scratchy fabric and left the room. He tried to call for help, again and again. But he couldn't.

It had sealed his mouth shut.
