Chapter 25

As they ran out of the Innovation Centre, Gray slapped one of the screens. Marlo looked back and saw a glance of the hologram occupying the Raptor for just a while longer. Delta leaped to bite at it but the Raptor went straight through it. The doors began to close before she turned forward and ran down the stairs quickly, accidentally running into the back of Zach, they both stumbled slightly trying to regain balance.

Marlo looked ahead and saw Blue standing in front of them, the doors to the Innovation Centre opened, making them turn their heads to look towards it. The Raptor stepped closer and hissed. To the side another Raptor squawked at them, making the others jump, Marlo kept her gaze on Delta. Owen held his arms out to stop Blue and Echo, she flickered her eyes to the right and saw Delta standing there snapping at them. She copied Owen and held her hands out trying to calm the raptor.

"That's how it is? Huh?" Owen asked Blue calmly. She growled at him. Gray looked towards them. Owen dropped his gun to the ground, keeping his eyes on Blue. Claire stood there paralyzed. Owen lifted his hand, pausing as Blue growled at him again. She snapped her jaws at him, his hand still moving towards her. "Easy. Easy," he whispered, moving his hands slowly. "Easy." He took off her camera and nodded slightly. "That's it."

"Easy there, okay? Just take it easy." Marlo soon realized only three were accounted for. "O, why are there only three? Why three? That's not right, there should be four. Owen? Please, tell me where Charlie is. Three? Why? No, no this is wrong," she began to mumble towards the end more to herself in a state of panic.

That feeling of nausea and pain had returned to her as she tried to choke back the tears, she felt as though her lungs were filling with cement as she waiting for the one answer she didn't want.

     "Where's-"

"Gone." Owen's voice was strong, yet weak. Loud, yet as quiet as he could go without feeling empty himself.

The Raptors had become his family as soon as he imprinted on them the day they had hatched. He knew that Marlo loved them as much as he did, they were a pack. His answer was not only for Marlo but for himself. He needed some type of closure about the whole ordeal, he couldn't tell her that he watched as his Raptor was targeted and blown up, he couldn't live with himself even with the simple thought of it.

Marlo had sucked in a deep breath and nodded to herself, she tried to compose herself as she handled the data Owen had told her. Gone. A pack member was gone. She heard the rippling growl sound of Blue from where she stood, she couldn't peel her eyes away from the Raptor in front of her.

"Easy now," she whispered and she steadied herself on her feet.

Her hands were shaking, she couldn't stop them, the pain in her back had returned and there was blood on her hands still. She watched as Echo tilted her head side to side watching Marlo, who was beginning to grow weaker and weaker as the seconds passed.

"Please," she whimpered out, she couldn't take it anymore, she lowed her head and her body shuddered as she tried to hold back her sobs. She looked up again and Echo was even closer.

"There you go," she heard Owen calmly speak, she heard the sound of metal hitting the ground and Blue making a light rippled sound. "How are you doing over there, Mars?" Her eyes were still on Echo. "Hey!" Owen's voice grew deeper. "Marlo!" Owen growled at her.

Words began to drown out, she was losing it. She was slipping away from reality as everything slowed down, Echo had stepped forward again and sniffed her hands before they were pulled away from their position and she was pulled towards warmth.

She didn't realize how cold her body began to get until she was against a radiating warmth, she closed her eyes and leaned her head back onto the source as she took in the heat on her body, but it was soon taken away again as cold air stung her arms. She looked down and saw her jumper was on the floor with her bloodied plaid shirt, her back was now exposed showing the gash across her back.

She smiled softly to herself when she realized she might not make it and would have to welcome death with open arms. Why did she believe that bringing dinosaurs back to life was a good idea? Were the mishaps that happened 22 years ago not enough for her to realize man and dinosaurs could never walk the earth at the same time?

She felt like she was underwater, it's what it sounded like to her anyway. A loud roar pierced her ears and she suddenly snapped her head towards the direction. The hybrid was standing in front of them with her jaws snapping. She looked towards Owen and opened her mouth.

"I love you, and may we meet again." She was loosing hope.

In all of the sixteen years that Owen new his baby sister he knew she would never give up hope. So watching her now with a tear stained face, and her reopened split lip, bloodied hands and clothes, bloodshot eyes, and her weak smile, it made his heart stop for a moment.

"And I hope you can forgive me," she whispered out in a croaky voice. "Because I know I can't forgive myself." She gulped and stumbled with her balance.

He wanted to reply but he couldn't. It was as if his voice was taken away from him. He was watching his family die right before his eyes and he couldn't do anything to stop it. All his life he knew that his family meant more to him than anything ever could, he loved them with all his heart. But what's love, when everything you have ever cared about is being taken away from you, without someone to share it with?

The sound of the Indominous Rex made the Raptors turn around and face her. She walked into the middle of the plaza, walking towards them. She roared out to the Raptors. Blue turned back to Owen, his hand still out in front of him. She squawked to him with the nod of her head.

Blue turned back around and roared at the Indominous Rex. The Indominous Rex roared back at her and swiped her to the side, making her body fly into the pillar, crashing into the table below. Owen looked back to the Indominous Rex. Zach struggling to hold Marlo up.

Both Delta and Echo roared towards the Indominous Rex, Owen looking between them. Owen glanced to the Indominous Rex, knowing he was in control again. He whistled out, and the two Raptors jumped at the hybrid. They jumped onto her spine, snapping at her back.

The Indominous Rex stumbled, letting the others run towards shelter. Gray jumped into one of the stalls, Zach helping Marlo in as Claire followed. Owen aimed his gun at the Indominous Rex and began to shoot. Hiding behind one of the fake ambers. He reloaded his gun as the Indominous Rex threw off one of the Raptors.

"24, 50," Gray mumbled. "We need more," he spoke louder, catching Claire's attention.

     "More what?" She whispered back.

"Teeth. We need more teeth." Zach and Marlo looked down to him, Zach's right arm around his shoulders, lift left hand holding onto Marlo's right. Claire looked over to the Indominous Rex and the Raptors. She stood up and opened the first aid kit, getting out a single red flare and a walkie talkie.

"Claire?" Marlo spoke quietly, not knowing what she was doing. Claire looked down to them and nodded, hearing Owen shooting in the background.

"Okay, so you just wait here. It's gonna be fine." Gray nodded back at her. She jumped over the counter, catching Owen's attention, he watched her run underneath the skeletal replica of the T-Rex.

The Raptor got up and ran back over to the Indominous Rex, she jumped back onto her back. Owen moved to start shooting again. The Indominous Rex managed to latch her jaw around Delta, throwing her into the stall with the grill. Her body was incinerated almost immediately, going up in flames.

Owen looked over at her body, remembering Charlie. He glanced back and got up, the tail of the Indominous Rex crushing the fake amber. The Indominous Rex grabbed Echo and threw her away. Owen jumped over the counter, startling Gray. He lifted his finger up to silence him, they heard the Indominous Rex growl, her blood encrusted jaw moving into view.

She slammed her head against the side. The kids screamed out as Owen sat in front of them, shielding them from the Indominous Rex. Her clawed hand broke into the side. Owen moved to the other end of the stall, Zach pulling Marlo as Gray followed. Marlo sat on Zach's left, Gray in the middle of Zach and Owen.

Her clawed hand reached in, scraping against the ground as Gray continued to scream. Both Zach and Owen held onto him protectively.
