Chapter 23
Marlo had opened the window just a tiny bit, she looked at the tablet in Claire's hand in distraught. She moved away from the window letting Zach and Gray look. Gray stared at the screen and asked Claire quietly, "Is everybody dead?" Claire looked back at him immediately, not realising that they had seen. She quickly moved the tablet away.
"No, no, no." Gray opened the window more so Marlo could look in. "Everyone is fine." Claire tried to reassure them all.
"Don't lie to him," Zach spoke loudly, his voice rising in anger.
"He's scared. It's okay to lie when people are scared!" Claire yelled back at him.
"Claire, we've been lied to enough." Marlo pointed out in a sad voice.
"I wanna go home," Gray told her. Claire looked over with watery eyes, she moved her right hand into the back with them to hold the back of his head as all three of them looked at her worriedly.
"Sweetheart, you will, okay? I promise." She squeezed his shoulder, then rubbed the back of his head soothingly. "Tomorrow you will be home, and your mother will never let me see you again." She looked away.
A man slammed a bloody hand on the window, causing Claire to jump and look over to him. It was one of the men Hoskins had sent to keep guard of the Raptors and Island. Marlo jumped and held onto Zach's arm as she tried to look at him. Claire had screamed, Zach pulled Marlo away from the window while Gray closed it. "Get out of here! Go!" Claire fiddled with the keys and turned the engine on.
The three in the back looked around. Marlo screamed in shock when the man opened the back of the Jeep doors, she could see one of the Raptors running up behind him. "Close the doors!" Marlo yelled at him, she went to help him in and close the doors but Zach and Gray held her back.
"They're coming!" The man yelled just as the Raptor jumped on his back and wrapped her blood encrusted jaws around him. Gray and Marlo screamed out again as Zach held his arms in front of them protectively. Claire pressed her foot onto the gas pedal and the jeep started to move forwards, the force of the jeep starting threw the man and the Raptor out of the jeep and back onto the ground. The man still yelling as the Raptor tore into him, the three of them watched in horror.
"What the hell is happening? Why is she doing that?" Marlo whimpered, never having seen any of the Raptors act like that before, even when they were still newborns and learning to listen to Owen's orders.
Claire slapped the closed window as she continued to drive off. "Just hold on back there!" Claire turned back, breathing heavily, trying to keep her eyes on the dimly lit road that only her headlights were showing. The Raptor had jumped and thrown herself into the window next to Claire, sending shards of glass to splinter off and fall into the front on Claire's lap. Marlo froze at the sound and turned her head to look at the window. Claire screamed as the Raptor tried to turn her head to snap her jaws at Claire. She couldn't hold on and fell back out of the window onto the ground with a squawk, Claire looked behind out the window to look at her.
The back doors continued to flap about as the jeep drove down the road. Marlo watched as the two got back up and continued to run next to each other, towards the back of the jeep. Marlo had tears rolling down her cheeks, she brushed the hair back from her face and she shook. "This wasn't on the job description," she whimpered out again.
Zach and Gray turned to each other. Zach turned back to the doors and stood up slowly, letting Marlo slip into the chair as he got up. His eyes trained on the doors as he held on. Gray grabbed his shoulder, keeping him from falling, watching the two Raptors gain on the jeep, bumping into one another. Zach moved to one of the large silver canisters as Gray got up. He ripped it from the wall and laid it on its side. They threw it out to at the Raptors, it only nearly hit one.
Claire looked at the side mirror, noticing the Raptor running up the side, she turned the steering wheel sharply, knocking the jeep into the Raptor. Only one was left. Marlo held onto the backs of the boy's shirt as she slowly stood up, she had felt a tug on her left arm, watching as Gray grabbed hold of one of the stunning rods. The two boys dropped to their knees fiddling lay with it.
"Turn it on!" Gray yelled.
"I don't know how!" Zach yelled back. Marlo growled and moved towards them, watching them fail to use it, she took it from them and turned it on just as the Raptor jumped and held onto the back. The two boys yelped out slightly as the Raptor snapped her jaws at them, "Now!" Gray yelled as both the boys helped Marlo push the rod towards the Raptor, shocking her. They watched as the headset on the Raptor broke off and the rod fell out of the back. Marlo sat back, letting out a large sigh. Zach and Gray held onto each other.
"Are you guys okay?" Claire called out to them.
"Did you see that?" Zach yelled as Gray opened the window, moving to sit back down on the seat, pulling Marlo up with him and onto his lap.
"I can't wait to tell Mum." Gray grinned at her as he looked through the window to Claire.
"Oh. Please, no." She shook her head. "Do not tell your mother about that, ever!" She turned her head to look at Gray.
"You okay, Mars?" Zach asked her as he held his arms around her waist.
"We're dead." She shook her head. "We survived but we're dead!"
"Did-Did you just quote Dash from The Incredibles?"
"H-How'd you know?" Marlo turned her head to look at him. "No one gets my references. Ever."
"You just never told them to the right people." He shrugged. Their faces almost touching, Zach looked down to her lips before quickly looking away, Marlo turned back around to see Owen on the motorbike.
"Owen!" Gray yelled.
"Owen!" Zach cheered. The three of them cheered and raised their arms up in the air as they watched him drive around the to the side of the jeep, towards Claire's side.
"We gotta get indoors!" He yelled at her as she looked to the side. "Follow me." He drove on ahead as Claire got out her phone quickly, dialing Lowery's number, putting the phone up to her ear.
"Lowery, we're headed your way. Call in a chopper." Claire breathed out as they continued to head towards the Innovation Centre.
The two Raptors slowed down as the sound of the Indominous Rex's cry reached them. They looked up and headed towards the tree line, away from the motorbike and the jeep.

Dr. Henry Wu walked through the labs. The scientists were moving the equipment about, some of them were moving the dinosaur eggs carefully. "Everything must be accounted for," he informed them as the scientists spoke among themselves, weaving in and out of one another quickly. "I want all backup generators online," he told one of them as he came up to one of the keypads on the wall. He looked around to make sure no one was watching. He placed his thumb on the scanner and waited until it was green before he opened the doors. His phone rang, he paused and lifted it up to his ear. "Where have you been?" He spoke in a hushed voice.
Hoskins was walking around one of the rooms, facing the wall of machines with flashing red lights. "Change of plans. Mission took a jog to the left. I'm taking everything off-site." Hoskins placed his right hand on his hip.
"The embryos are safe here." Wu's eyebrows furrowed. Hoskins looked up, not wanting to argue. "They can live up to eight weeks on the generators."
"No, no. You listen. The parks gonna be chapter 11 by morning," Hoskins replied, Wu looked to the lab in shock. "Okay? Our little side project's about to get a shot in the arm. I don't want a bunch of lawyers messing around with something that they don't understand. You get it?" Wu shook his head, not believing what he was hearing. "Hey? I'm gonna take that as a yes."

"Ladies and gentlemen, we'd like to thank you for your patience."
The P.A system spoke as everyone clumped together at the docks;
"The next ferry will be leaving in 45 minutes."
People at the medical station shook their heads. They didn't ask for this when they came to the Park for a holiday. One man was getting his head bandaged put on. Babies were crying. Families were sitting together as paramedics checked them over.
"If you require immediate medical attention, please report to the nearest health service station."
Lowery watched the screens in the control room. "Is this what you had in mind?" He looked around when he didn't get a response, he watched as Hoskins people began to pack up and move around the room.
"Okay, people. We have an extraction point at the east dock," he heard some of them say.
"Hey," he mumbled when he turned around to face Vivian.
"They said we had to evacuate. There's a boat. You coming?" Lowery turned back to the screens before he looked down to the ground. He stood up.
"Someone has to stay behind." He walked over to her, leaning in to kiss her when she pulled away.
"No. I have a boyfriend."
"I didn't know that you guys were, like, together-together."
"We are." She let out a small laugh.
"That's good. You don't mention him, ever." He motioned to her desk, she shook her head.
"No, I'm at work."
"No, no, no. Yeah. Well..." He leaned in to hug her this time.
"Yeah, okay. Great." They pulled away.
"Great."
"Okay."
"Okay."
"Are you gonna be okay?"
"Yeah," he whispered out.
"Okay, bye." She turned around and ran over to the elevator, leaving Lowery standing in the control room alone.
