Chapter 21

Hoskins turned around to the sound of the engine. Owen drove the others up to the Paddock. The jeep splashed in a large puddle as Owen killed off the engine. Owen wasted no time getting out of the jeep, heading straight towards Hoskins. "Marlo, stay in the Jeep," Claire warned.

"Wasn't going to do anything," Marlo mumbled.

"Oh, I'm sure that's the truth," Claire replied sarcastically.

"You know me so well." Marlo grinned. Claire rolled her eyes as she got out, slamming the door shut. Marlo watched her brother and Claire walk over to Hoskins. The sound of the Raptors could be heard from inside the jeep. But that was all that they could hear from the jeep, the rest of the sounds were muffled.

"The mother hen has finally arrived." Hoskins smirked as he stroked over to Owen. Marlo couldn't wait until the day he had his smirk slapped right off of his face.

Owen brought his left arm back and punched Hoskins in the face, Marlo spoke too soon. Marlo winced at the sound as Hoskins' face turned to his left, he stumbled back. Gray let out an 'ooh' as he leaned back. Zach covered his mouth as he tried not to laugh. Hoskins turned his head, his right hand holding his jaw as a few guards came up behind him.

"Get the hell out of here and stay away from my animals," Owen threatened as Hoskins let go of his jaw.

"Hoskins, you wanted this to happen, you son of a bitch!" Claire spoke from Owen left.

"Jesus! How many more people have to die before this mission starts to make sense to you?" Hoskins glared as he looked between the two of them, occasionally holding onto his jaw.

"It's not a mission. It's a field test." Barry moved to stand next to Claire, looking at Hoskins with pure hate. Hoskins looked away from him and over to Owen.

"This is an InGen situation now." Claire shook her head, not believing a word that came out of Hoskins' mouth. She couldn't believe he had the nerve to say any of this. "Okay, there are gonna be cruise ships that show up here at first light." He pointed to the ground, his voice raising as he tried to show 'reason' to the three in front of him. "Everybody's gonna get off this island." He looked to Owen. "You're gonna watch a news story tomorrow about how you all saved lives." He looked to the others before pointing his finger at Owen. "No, better yet, how your animals saved lives."

Owen stayed silent as he looked to Barry. Both Barry and Claire looked at him. "They've never been out of containment," Barry informed him. "It's crazy."

Hoskins turned back, waving his arm at his men as he yelled, "Let's move it out!" A couple of guards started up jeeps, yelling to others to go while Hoskins turned back to Owen, getting closer to his face as he yelled. "This is happening!" His voice lowered slightly. "With or without you." Owen started at him still.

"He can't be serious." Marlo glared at Hoskins.

     "What?"

Marlo looked to Gray. "He's going to use our Raptors to try and catch that thing out there."

     "Would he really do that?"

     "Yes, he would."

     "How do you know?"

"He's insane. He's actually insane. I swear he broke out of a psychiatric hospital, there's something not right in his head. If he has the nerve to even suggest that to Owen, he better expect another punch."

"You really hate this guy, don't you Mars?" Zach looked to her face.

"Look me in the eyes. Look me in my black and bruised eye and say that again," Marlo's voice was low, so much so that Zach and Gray could barely hear her, and she got out of the jeep.

-

Owen spread the map out over the table, pointing his finger in the middle of the map.

"We know that she is in sector five." He looked up at the guards surrounding the table. "This is a game we call hide-and-seek. It's a scent drill. We've done it about a thousand times with these animals. When they get on target, and they will get on target, wait to engage." He lifted his finger up to emphasize his point. "Velociraptors are pack hunters. They like to herd the animal into a kill zone. That's when we take our shot. Get a clear shot, wait on my command, and give her everything you got. We got one good target, gentlemen. Do not shoot my Raptors. Please." Owen looked at each of the men as he spoke.

-

At the Paddock, Owen placed his hands on the bottom of Blue's face. "Easy, Blue. Easy. Attagirl." She growled out quietly as he rubbed his hands gently against her rough skin. He moved his head to her right side, looking into her eye. "You don't scare me." He fixed the camera on the side of her head.

"Owen." Gray caught his attention, he turned back to the three kids.

Marlo was inside the area he was in, leaning against the bars behind her, with her arms crossed, a scowl on her face. Owen knew that she was pissed. He couldn't blame her, he felt the same. But it was either this or let Hoskins take over the plan completely, and even he knew that Marlo would agree that wasn't going to be an option. Not while they were still on the island.

Zach was on her right, he rested his arms on the bars in front of him, his hands that were on the inside were resting on Marlo's right shoulder. Owen could see him glancing from Marlo to Owen quickly. Owen looked over to Gray, he was holding onto the bars with his hands.

"Are they safe?" Gray asked as he looked behind Owen to the Raptors.

"No, they're not." He shook his head. The Raptors behind him huffed and growled out.

"What are their names?" Zach looked at them. Owen looked to Marlo who smirked, she knew the plan. She pushed herself off the bars, Zach's hands dropping slightly as she moved away from him, to stand next to Owen.

"Well, you got Charlie." She pointed to the Raptor at the end, a smile on her face as Charlie huffed. The two boys looked to where she was pointing. "There's Echo." She pointed to the next. "Here is Delta." She glanced over to Delta. Marlo then stepped to the side, pointing behind both Owen and herself, pausing slightly. "This one's called Blue. She's the beta." Owen nodded as she turned back.

"Who's the alpha?" Gray asked. Zach looked over to Marlo who smirked again, raising her head up higher.

"You're looking at them, kid." Owen's eyes flickered to Marlo, who crossed her arms over her chest before he looked back to the boys. Gray grinned as Marlo winked at both the boys. Zach looked down with a small smirk as he laughed through his nose, impressed.

"Our girls are our family. Hoskins thinks he can use them, but personally, I think that he needs to shove his opinions right up his a-"

"Okay!" Owen clapped his hands and placed them on Marlo's shoulder. "I think you've said enough."

"Hardly, just wait until I get my hand around his throat and squeeze the life o-"

"No. Marlo." Owen patted the sides of her arms. "I've got this."

"Yeah I know, I saw your left hook." She looked up at him with a grin. "You could have done more damage."

"Easy tiger." Owen chuckled as she looked back to Gray and Zach.

-

Claire opened the back of the truck. Marlo and the two boys stood beside each other, behind her. Inside there were two chairs, Marlo glanced back to the Paddock before Claire caught her attention. "See? Totally safe." Gray looked back to the Raptors as well as Marlo when he heard them struggle to move about again. Claire looked back at the three of them, Marlo had a skeptical look on her face as she tilted her head at the seats. Claire let out a sigh. "All right, get in." Claire moved Gray over to the back, helping him up. "Come on. Get in there."

Gray hopped up to the back seat, he sat down on one of them. Zach placed his hands on Marlo's waist, helping her up. Marlo huffed as she stood up in the back, holding her hand out to Zach, helping him up as well. "Well isn't this just snug, and extremely welcoming." Marlo rolled her eyes, Zach placed his hand on her lower back and pushed her in further. "I can help, you know?" She looked back to Claire. Zach moved to sit down next to Gray. "I can deal with the Raptors too." Marlo gave Claire a look, pleading for her to let Marlo do something.

"If you need me, I'll be right up front." Claire ignored Marlo who groaned and turned back to look at the seats.

"Do you people not plan for three? Why is there only ever two seats?" Marlo looked back to Claire. "Oh well, looks like I have to join Owen now." Marlo faked sadness and shrugged her shoulders, her hands out in fake helplessness.

"Just sit on my lap." Zach rolled his eyes.

     "You're not Santa."

     "I could be." Zach smirked.

     "Now's not the time Zachary."

"Marlo, just sit on Zach's lap." Claire sighed.

"Think of the children, Claire!" Marlo mocked.

"I am!" Claire rolled her eyes, catching the sarcasm. "Just open that window. Okay?" Marlo rolled her eyes and looked behind herself. Both the boys looked to the blue covered window. Zach looked back and patted his legs, Marlo huffed and walked over to him, slowly sitting down, with an uncomfortable expression on her face.

"I've only ever been this close to four people. My parents, Owen and Gray in the gyrosphere."

"First time for everything." Zach looked up at her.

Claire waved her finger in front of them. "Put your seatbelts on."

Gray looked down, moving things out of his way, not seeing anything. Marlo and Zach looked down to what Gray was looking at. Gray slapped the side of his seat. Zach looked to the other side and slapped the side of his leg while Marlo just stared at Claire pursing her lips, bored. Claire moved her hands to her side and she breathed in.

"Okay, so just...Hold hands." Claire grabbed the sides of the doors and closed them, locking the three in the back.
