Clara's POV

Thump. Thump. Thump.

I peeled my eyes open slowly as the steady beat of the machine next to me continued in sync with my heart. Everything seemed too bright and too quiet in the white room I was in. I looked around at the strange room, panic seeping in as I realized I didn't know where I was. The machine started accelerating as my heartbeat increased.

As I continued looking around the room the bright lights became too much and I had to close my eyes. My head pounded more and more with each passing second and when I realized why I nearly passed out. Memories danced behind my eyelids as I tried to hang on to my consciousness. All of them flooded into my mind and quickly became very overwhelming. My entire life passed quickly before my eyes and I quickly succumbed to the darkness.

"Come on Chase!" His deep voice echoed through our small house as I stood beside him, my hand grasping his tightly. I smiled up at my father as we waited, not so patiently, for my brother. "This boy, I swear." My father mumbled, smiling down at me. His large hand held mine easily as it was nearly three or four times larger than mine. He was really tall as I strained to look up at him and his curly hair hung down over his bright blue eyes.

"Chase!" I yelled up the stairs, wanting to be just like my father.

He chuckled as Chase finally came running down the stairs and smiled as he grabbed my father's other hand. "Where are we going?"

I started laughing as I saw my brother's holy smile as he had just lost his two front teeth.

"Shut up Clara!" He spat at me, leaning around father to stick his tongue out at me.

"Don't say that to her! And we're going to see your Aunt Ava." My father wrapped his arms around us and carried both of us out to the car; strapping us in quickly and running to the driver's side as he always did. It wasn't safe to be outside anymore.

I watched as we passed the deserted wasteland now surrounding our house in hopes this would be a peaceful car ride.

"Kids, don't look out the windows now okay?" My father's eyes met ours in the mirror and we both nodded in agreement. I looked down at my shoes, jumping slightly when Chase's hand wrapped around mine. My eyes met his and he smiled softly at me. It was times like these when it was easy to love my brother. I always felt so safe when I was with him. I saw movement behind him and my eyes wandered up. Chase squeezed my hand and forcefully pulled my chin down so I was looking at him again. He shook his head slightly telling me I didn't want to see what was outside. Maybe he was right, they never let me see outside before so for now I'd just have to trust him.

I opened my eyes again and immediately noticed how dark the room was. My eyes scanned the area around me, pausing on a figure across the room. I sighed in relief when I saw the long hair draped over the table. "Teresa?" I whispered in hopes that it was her.

She leaned up on the table but it was too dark for me to see her features. "Clara? Oh thank goodness you're awake! I was so worried they'd done something to you." She whispered quickly and I could hear the bit of panic in her hushed tone.

"How long have I been out?" I pulled myself into a sitting position ignoring the pain that shot through my body.

"I think it's been about three or four days now. They've done several tests on you so far." She pulled her legs up to her chest and rested her chin on her knees. "There's a younger guy that keeps coming in to check on you though."

"What does he look like?" My heart fluttered at this new information as I instantly thought of Chase. I hadn't seen him yet and I could only hope he was here with us.

"Honestly? He looks a bit like you." She pulled herself off the bed and made her way over to me. I gasped when I saw the bruises lining her arms. She smiled shyly at me before gesturing to her arms. "It's from them taking blood samples. They're gentle but apparently I bruise easily." She shrugged and glanced down at my arms. "You actually have some too."

I quickly looked down at my arms and gasped seeing the bright purple and blue splotches covering them. "Oh my."

"Yeah, they'll go away soon though." She shrugged lightly before pulling herself onto my table. "They gave you your memories back, right?"

I nodded in reply, moving over to give her more space on the table with me.

"Is that why you keep passing out?"

I arched a brow in question as I looked up at her. "Keep passing out? I only remember doing it once."

She let out a short laugh in response before grasping my hand lightly. "Clara, you've been up several times in the past few days. One time you even punched that guy in the face!"

My mouth dropped open and my free hand went to cover it. "I hit someone?" I tried thinking back on who it could have been but my mind was still recovering from the recent memory overload it just went through.

She laughed, breaking me from my thoughts. "Yes, you did and it was hilarious! Don't worry, he deserved it." She winked at me and scooted closer. "I missed you."

I smiled up at her and wrapped an arm around her. "I missed you too T."

"I really miss the boys too. I wonder when we'll be able to see them again."

I frowned and started playing with the hem on my shirt. "I have no idea."

She pulled me into her so I was leaning against her. "Well, let's not fret on that. I'm thinking you already have a lot going on up there so we don't need to add to it."

I smiled in relief before a thought occurred to me. "Wait, you said that guy who keeps checking on me looks like me? When was the last time you saw him?"

"This morning. Is it your brother that Thomas told me about?"

I nodded against her shoulder as she wrapped both of her arms around me. "Well, he is working with the people who brought us here. He's gentle though. He's the one who gave me my first few shots here. He told me not to worry about you and that you'd be alright. Seems nice." She shrugged with a small smile before brushing the air from my forehead. The action seemed strange coming from someone my age who I was just protecting in the maze. It seemed the tables had turned for Teresa and I.

"He is nice. Well, he was when we were kids at least." I replied, thinking of all the memories I now had of Chase and I. "Come to think of it you were pretty nice yourself."

"How did we meet?" I heard the smile in her voice and thought back to when I met her.

The Wicked building was very big and it seemed much bigger to us since we were so small. All the adults walking around would smile at us but it didn't take away the intimidation. Chase held my hand as we followed Thomas and Newt into a large, open room filled with games. I had a habit of wandering off so they knew now that someone had to keep a hold of me.

My eyes lit up as we looked around at all the different machines. I immediately released Chase's hand and sprinted to one of the machines in the corner set up like a race car. I climbed in and Newt followed me, laughing as he looked over my shoulder.

"Why would you want to be that driver?" He asked as I selected my person.

"Because he's wearing a blue suit and that's my favorite color." I smiled up at him before picking the race track.

"Do you want to race me? I can go to that one. And I won't even pick any blue guys!" He pointed to the one next to me and I eagerly nodded as I waited for him.

Before Newt could climb into the one next to me a small girl slid in it instead.

"I'd love to race you if you don't mind." Her voice was quiet as she spoke and a wide smile spread across her face.

I nodded to her as Newt returned to my side. He patted my shoulder lightly knowing my anxiety would peak around a stranger. "You can do this." He nearly whispered to me so the girl wouldn't hear.

The girl selected her person and smiled at me. "Ready if you are!"

I nodded to her and we raced, both of us laughing at how terrible we were. After the race we both climbed out and she extended her hand to me. "My name is Teresa. Thank you for letting me race you."

My smile grew as I shook her hand. "I'm Clara and it was fun."

We became instant friends after that.

"That sounds like something I would do." Teresa said with a laugh.

I laughed with her and nodded. "Yeah, we had fun together. Not that it's surprising that we did."

"I knew there was a reason I recognized you in the box."

I nodded and my gaze shifted to the door as it opened. A woman walked in wearing a lab coat with a few things in her hands. She stopped in her tracks when she saw Teresa's empty table but let out a visible sigh of relief when she saw her next to me.

"Clara, you're up! Teresa, could you please take a seat back on your bed while I check a few things?" The woman seemed nice but that didn't stop the pang of fear that flooded through me as Teresa separated from me. I watched her go back to her own table as the lady prepared a few syringes for me.

"What are all of those?" I asked, pulling away from the lady as she stepped closer to me.

"These are just some..."

I cut her off before she could continue. "And please don't lie to me this time." My voice was strong and she looked a bit taken back after I finished speaking. I saw Teresa smirk in my direction before the lady regained my attention.

"I'm sorry about before but I will tell the truth this time. I only gave you the generic answer before to ease your nerves about the procedure."

I nodded and arched a brow as I waited for the answer to my question.

"These two are pain relievers for your memory injection procedure. You don't feel it now but in about twenty or thirty minutes when the other dose wears off you'll feel tremendous pain so these will help ease that. And this one is a mild sedative that I've been instructed to give to both of you."

"Why do we need a sedative?" I asked, glancing at Teresa.

"Because the memory injection isn't the only procedure that needed to be done for you. You're both getting what we call the experimental test results from the maze trial experiments. So, we're just getting the last minute results we couldn't get before."

"How does that work?" Teresa asked, leaning forward on her table.

"A CAT scan of your brain will reveal the results we need. The sedative just keeps you both still for as long as we need. It's really a harmless experiment." The lady answered all of our questions with a smile but it still seemed suspicious to me. I glanced at Teresa and noticed she felt uneasy about this procedure as well.

"When will we get to see the boys from our experiment?" I asked, moving away from the doctor once again.

"You've both been cleared for release immediately following the CAT scan."

I smiled in response and held my arm out for her to manipulate. I felt the sedative kick in almost immediately and felt my body relaxing. In seconds my eyes were closed and I was reliving my past.

My arm began trembling as I pulled back the string on my crossbow.

"Clara, you can kill someone if you don't hold this steady!" Jansen's hands wrapped around mine and he pulled my arm roughly into position. "Now, hold it! Just like that." He cursed under his breath and walked away shaking his head. He wasn't nearly as mean to the others as he was to me and I couldn't understand why. I sighed before returning my attention to the target, laughing when someone else's arrow flew into it. I grinned at Newt before taking my own shot. We both hit the exact same spot.

"Hey, mine was there first!" He said with a small laugh, pulling both of our arrows out. He handed me one of them before glancing at Jansen. "I don't understand why he has to be so mean to you."

"I don't get it either. He better watch it though before I shoot this at him next time." I shrugged and repositioned the arrow on the bow.

He smiled lightly before pulling my arm into position. His touch was much gentler than Jansen's was and I felt the blush creep into my cheeks as his hand moved away. I let the arrow fly and it stuck in the bulls eye.

"How did you do that?" Newt asked me with a bright smile. He seemed genuinely happy that I got the target.

I shrugged before moving to stand beside him. I grinned as I pulled his arm into position causing him to laugh. "Oh, just needs someone else's touch is that it?" His thick accent glided over the words and caused another blush to seep into my cheeks.

"Yes, just right there."

He let it fly and it hit my arrow right on. We smiled at each other before I jumped back in surprise when three other arrows simultaneously hit the target all right around the same spot. I laughed and started clapping as Minho, Thomas, and Chase acted like they were bowing to an audience.

"Great performance guys, brilliant!" Newt stated sarcastically as he clapped for them.

"That was amazing and you know it!" Minho said, bumping Newt lightly.

"Ten bucks says you can't do it again." I told Minho.

He rolled his eyes with a grin on his face. "Ten bucks says you don't have ten bucks!"

We were all laughing as Jansen made his way back over to us. "You all need to try a bit harder and actually do what you came here to do! Clara, follow me. You're done for the day." He turned around and started walking down the hall, pausing to wait for me.

I smiled a sad smile at the boys before handing my bow to Newt. "Thanks for target practice, it was fun. I'll see you all later." They all patted my shoulder and I started down the hallway after Jansen but Chase stopped me.

"Be careful with him."

I nodded at him and continued on, glancing at them all over my shoulder. All of their gazes remained focused on me as I joined Jansen. He grabbed my arm painfully and literally drug me away from my friends.

A/N: Yay an update! Sorry it took so long but the next one will hopefully not take as long :) thank you all for sticking with this!
