Surviving Number 8. Part 8.
Everyone panicked.
Where the hell did Hobi go? He was just with them when they were running inside to help Jimin and Taehyung. Jimin looked up through his tears. "He wasn't with you?!" he cried.
"Yes he was!" Namjoon yelled. Jin sighed with frustration. He realized the misery just wouldn't end.
"Jungkook, Taehyung, Yoongi, you all stay here with Jimin. Joon and I will go find Hobi," Jin commanded. He stood up and looked at the panic on everyone's faces and told them everything would be okay as he grabbed Namjoon and they ran out of the room. Jimin curled back up into a ball and continued to cry. Now he wasn't only grieving his fish, but desperately hoping that Hobi was alright. Those who stayed with him hugged him tightly.
"They'll find him, Jimin-ah," Yoongi said reassuringly. He sure hoped he was right.
Jin dragged Namjoon straight to Ky's bedroom door and pounded on it. When Ky opened it Jin barged right in without a second thought. "Where is he?!" Jin screamed.
Ky seemed unfazed by Jin's anger. "Who?" he asked.
"You know damn well who! Where is Hobi?!" Jin looked around Ky's room. "Did you do something to him too?! Huh?!"
Namjoon stood there nervously and just watched. He really didn't want to cause a scene in front of Ky although he too was extremely angry and anxious about everything going on.
"How the hell should I know where he is? Get the hell out of my room!" Ky yelled at Jin and grabbed him and shoved him out the door. Namjoon ran out too and Ky slammed his door closed. Jin wasn't done. He started banging on Ky's door. "Did you hurt him too?!" he yelled.
Ky flung his door back open and got in Jin's face. "You not being able to keep track of your own damn dongsaengs is not my damn problem, Jin." He angrily slammed his bedroom door closed again.
"Where could he have gone?!" Namjoon asked desperately. He didn't understand how he was missing. Namjoon knew that Hobi was with them when they had ran inside after hearing screaming. How could someone just vanish without anyone even noticing, and so quickly? And if Ky really wasn't responsible, why would Hobi have ran away without saying anything?
Jin had tears in his eyes. "I don't know." He started running around screaming for Hobi desperately. Namjoon followed. When looking for him inside proved to have no result they ran outside screaming for him.
"Hobi?!" Jin screamed.
"Hobi hyung?!" Namjoon followed. They ran around outside and split up before meeting back up. Both of them were in tears.
"I don't know what to do Namjoon. He's just...gone...how is someone just gone!?" Jin cried.
"I don't kn-" Namjoon stopped talking when he heard a noise. "Wait."
They both held their breath to listen when they heard crying coming from behind the rock wall at the edge of the property. They looked at each other and then both made a run for it.
Finally, there was Hobi. Huddled up on the ground behind the rocks cradling his knees to his face and crying.
"Oh thank our lucky stars!" Jin yelled. "We've been looking everywhere for you! What the hell happened?! How'd you end up out here?! Why are you out here? When did you come out here?" Jin had an endless stream of questions and failed to realize that Hobi was too busy crying to answer anything.
"Hyung, wait," Namjoon said to Jin. Namjoon knelt down next to Hobi and pulled him into a hug. "What is it?"
Jin knelt down and put his hand on Hobi's knee and squeezed it. He realized right now Hobi clearly needed comfort, not questions.
"I'm s-sorry," Hobi sniffled.
"Sorry? Why?" Jin asked with concern.
"I just...I...Jimin...his screaming...his cries...I couldn't...I couldn't listen to it. I had to escape."
"Oh, Hobi." Jin started rubbing his back to comfort him.
"I didn't mean t-to run out. I...his...I..." Hobi was too choked up to get what he wanted to say out clearly.
"It's okay. Just try to breathe," Namjoon said.
Hobi cried into his knees a bit more before finally catching some of his breath and looking to his members, "It was too much. It's all just too much. I've never heard him like that. All these years...I've never heard him cry like that. It broke my heart. I never want to hear that again. Never."
His members hadn't gone crazy or anything. He really was with them when they ran inside after hearing Jimin screaming. But as soon as he saw Jimin wailing into Taehyung's arms, and the broken fishbowl shattered across the bathroom floor, he turned and ran out once Ky had walked away. He wanted to help Jimin, he truly did, but seeing him in that state had done something to Hobi he'd never experienced before. He felt sick to his stomach. He felt trapped. He felt his own fight or flight kick in and didn't know what else to do except escape, so he ran out of the house and jumped over the rock wall to sit, hide, and cry.
He had heard Jin and Namjoon out screaming for him but he needed a bit more time alone to try and calm himself down. He wasn't sure how much more of this he could take. His anxiety had been taking over lately. Ky scared the absolute hell out of him and he didn't know what to do about it. He felt like everyone else was a lot braver than him when it came to dealing with the guy. He felt like a coward for running but he didn't have a single cell in his body that made him want to fight, especially not with Ky. When Ky hurt people, what was he supposed to do? Of course he wanted to protect everyone from him the best he could, but he was starting to think maybe even his best still amounted to absolutely nothing.
"I know. I know. I get it," Namjoon said as he rocked Hobi gently in his hug. "I never want to hear him like that either. Not anyone."
"I just don't know what I'm supposed to do," Hobi turned to Jin. "Hyung, what am I supposed to do?"
"I don't have the answers to that." Jin was as lost as everyone else. "But I do know that everyone in there is worried about where you went. Jimin is calming down, and we all know when it comes to him being upset you're the one he usually wants. So if you're willing, can you come back inside and be with him?"
Hobi nodded and wiped his tears. "Okay." As long as he didn't have to hear Jimin wailing uncontrollably again he figured the best he could do for now was just go and be there for him.
The three of them walked back inside and back into Jimin's room. Everyone sighed with relief to see that Hobi was okay. He apologized to everyone for the scare and said he just needed to pop out for some fresh air. He walked over and scooted next to Jimin in his bed.
The younger wrapped his arms tightly around his hyung as he continued to softly cry. Hobi rubbed his back. "I'm so sorry about Flyn."
"You're not the one who killed him," Taehyung said. Namjoon wiped the tear that was strolling down Taehyung's cheek. He patted Taehyung's back when Taehyung suddenly flinched away.
"Ow," he said reflexively. He suddenly realized how much his back was starting to hurt.
Namjoon put his hand up in surrender. "What did I do?" He asked nervously. Ow? Why ow? What did I just do?
"Nothing." Everyone looked at Jimin, surprised he had even spoken up because he was still crying. "Ky threw him into the wall and he hit his back."
"He choked Jimin," Taehyung said immediately. He didn't want the attention on him so made a desperate attempt to throw it back at Jimin.
The others sighed in frustration. Of course he did.
They checked Jimin's neck but the singer said it wasn't that bad. He did have some slight bruises but nothing terrible. Jimin shot the attention back to Taehyung.
Namjoon lifted Taehyung's shirt to reveal a pretty nasty bruise already forming on his dongsaeng's back. Everyone gasped. Hobi had to look away. He really couldn't deal with all of this right now. Jungkook felt his breath catch in his throat. This really only kept getting worse. Jin and Namjoon had to take deep breaths to control their anger.
"Jesus Christ," Yoongi sighed. "Are you alright?"
Taehyung shrugged. "It doesn't matter."
"Of course it matters. Why would you think it doesn't?" Jungkook asked, confused.
"Because even if I wasn't okay, what would it matter? It's not like anyone can do anything about it," Taehyung pouted. He was feeling rather hopeless at this point. Ky literally just killed their pet. And there was nothing anyone could do about it. So who cared if he himself had a nasty bruise from the whole ordeal? It will never make a difference.
Everyone went silent not quite knowing what to say. Taehyung wasn't exactly wrong. What were they supposed to do if the cops were out of the question?
Taehyung noticed the concern and hesitation in everyone's faces. "I'm fine," he added through the silence.
Jimin reached out and squeezed Taehyung's hand. It made Taehyung's heart hurt more knowing that Jimin was the one really going through something right now but he was still worried for Taehyung instead. Jungkook walked over and hugged Taehyung gently, making sure not to touch his back.
Jimin decided he wanted to be alone, except he wanted Hobi to stay with him. It wasn't only Jimin who liked Hobi around when he was hurting. There was something about his presence, his aura, that was always super calming. Everyone wanted him around when they were hurting. Jimin politely asked everyone to leave so they could rest. They respected his wish and left, making sure he didn't need anything else first.
Once they shut Jimin's door behind them, everyone turned to each other.
"Will he be alright?" Jungkook asked. He was extremely worried about the emotional state Jimin was in.
"We will make sure he is," Yoongi said reassuringly.
"Okay," Jungkook sighed. He still couldn't help but worry. His hyungs pain always turned into his own.
Namjoon said he was going outside to read. He could use more fresh air. Yoongi decided to go back outside with him. Being inside was starting to feel a little bit suffocating.
Taehyung, Jin, and Jungkook made their way to the kitchen. Taehyung and Jungkook sat down at the table while Jin grabbed them some cups of water.
"Let me check your back," Jin said and immediately lifted Taehyung's shirt again. Jungkook gulped and looked away. He had flashbacks to his own bruises. He also knew Namjoon still had bruises too. It was painful to witness and his heart broke.
As Jin was staring at Taehyung's bruise he also noticed something he hadn't quite realized before.
Taehyung had lost weight, and the ribs in his back were more noticeable. Jin slowly put Taehyung's shirt back down.
"Tae? When was the last time you actually ate?" Jin asked, concerned. Jungkook turned to his hyung curiously. They knew Taehyung had been dealing with this issue but so much had happened lately that Taehyung somehow was getting through the days without anyone noticing or paying attention anymore.
He simply shrugged.
"I haven't seen you eat in days," Jungkook realized.
"You've lost weight," Jin said.
"I haven't noticed," Taehyung shrugged. What Jin said actually felt like a small compliment. He was trying to lose weight. However he didn't want anyone to worry, because what he was doing was actually working and he didn't want anyone making him stop.
Jin sighed and sat down at the table next to Taehyung. "I don't understand why you let one thing Ky said bother you so much. Especially something that was never even true."
"I'm not," Taehyung lied.
"Then why aren't you eating?" Jungkook asked. He was so scared for Taehyung. He could see that his hyung was only getting worse. He still thought Taehyung was being a bit selfish and stupid with all of this, but he wouldn't dare voice his opinion about that again. Not after what happened between them last time he did that.
"I'm fine," Taehyung shrugged. He really wanted both of them to drop it. Haven't I had to deal with enough today? The last thing I want to do right now is eat.
"That's it. You're eating. Right now." Jin got up and headed to the fridge and pulled out celery and carrots. Taehyung sighed in frustration as Jin poured them out onto a plate and put it in front of him.
"Eat," Jin demanded.
Taehyung stared at the plate. "I'm not hungry."
Jungkook looked at Jin a bit concerned. He personally felt like this probably wasn't exactly the best way to go about this. He knew Taehyung well and he knew when Taehyung was sad he didn't eat. So even if he wasn't dealing with this issue, he still wouldn't be hungry after everything that just happened with Jimin.
"Hyung maybe right now isn't the best-" Jungkook started but Jin ignored him.
Jin was staring at Taehyung, who was avoiding his hyungs eye contact. "Eat, Taehyung. Look! It's celery and carrots. Healthy and good for you. So eat it."
"I can't." Taehyung stared down at the table and fought back tears of frustration. His stomach hurt from his anxiety and he simply didn't feel good. He wasn't hungry. He didn't want to eat.
Jin was getting angry at Taehyung's disobedience. He didn't know the boy didn't feel good, he thought he was just being defiant for the hell of it. He was also still reeling with anxiety and anger over what Ky had done earlier and Taehyung wasn't making the day any easier. He smacked the kitchen table, making both Taehyung and Jungkook flinch.
"Damnit Taehyung! Just eat the food! You're making yourself sick with this shit! What happens when we go back to work and you can't even function anymore because you refuse to eat anything?! Then what?!" Jin yelled.
Taehyung covered his face with his hands and began to cry.
Jungkook stood up and yelled at Jin. "You need to stop it!" He was mad at the eldest now. He hated the way Jin was treating Taehyung. He never acted like that.
"How about you just stay out of it?!" Jin yelled at Jungkook. Nobody had noticed that Ky was standing to the side until he cleared his throat and spoke up.
"Ahem," Ky started and made his way over to Taehyung. All three of them froze. He walked right up to Taehyung and hovered over him. "I can't help but notice that your hyung is asking you to do something, and it seems as though you're refusing to do it?"
Taehyung felt like he was going to throw up. He kept his gaze low and didn't dare to look at, or even respond to Ky. He felt his body start to tremble. Jungkook immediately sat back down next to Taehyung and grabbed onto his arm protectively. Jin also got closer to them as anxiety coursed through his chest.
"I'm handling it," Jin said defensively.
"Really? Because it doesn't seem to me like you are," Ky replied. He put his hand on the table and leaned into Taehyung's face. "Your hyung gave you an order."
"Leave him alone," Jin pleaded. He felt instant guilt when he realized Taehyung had dealt with enough shit today already. He felt terrible for trying to force him to do something he didn't want to do, and now this was where it got them.
Ky smacked Jin hard in the chest making him stumble backwards. "Don't you dare tell me what to do."
"Hyung!" Jungkook cried. Jin gestured to Jungkook that he was alright.
The maknae was biting his lip nervously as he watched Jin. Please don't let him hurt Taehyung too. Not again.
When Ky saw that Taehyung was ignoring him he smacked him in the back. Right where his bruise was. Taehyung's entire body tensed up as he let out a whimper of pain and leaned forward into the table. It hurt, really badly. Tears spilled down his cheeks as he clenched his eyes closed. He had a desperate wish that if he kept his eyes closed the monster next to him would disappear.
"Ky stop!" Jungkook cried without even thinking. He pulled Taehyung into a hug.
"I don't want to hear shit from you, Jungkook. Your hyungs are dealing with something right now, so you can keep your damn mouth shut," Ky spat. Jungkook looked right back at Jin but realized Jin seemed lost too. The maknae couldn't hold his tears in anymore either.
Ky grabbed Taehyung's face aggressively and faced it back towards the plate. The singer let out another whimper of pain. Ky's grip hurt. He tried to take deep breaths to control his fear but it wasn't working. He felt the anxiety wrapping around his heart like a prickly thorn.
"Eat," Ky demanded.
Taehyung was so beyond upset at this point that he knew he just couldn't do it. Even if he tried he knew it wouldn't be good enough for Ky anyway. Maybe not even for Jin, he didn't know. He couldn't help but be angry at Jin. This somewhat felt like the oldests fault. If his hyung had just listened to him the first time, the problem would have been over with before Ky had the chance to come in and witness what was even going on. Taehyung's eyes darted all around the table as he contemplated what to do. He wasn't going to fight Ky. He knew that wouldn't have worked out in his favor.
Maybe I can run.
Taehyung jumped to his feet in a desperate attempt to escape. He pulled out of Jungkook's grip and backed away from Ky.
However, he didn't make it very far. He didn't realize how dizzy and disoriented he felt until he stood up. So instead of running, his eyes rolled to the back of his head.
And he dropped unconscious to the floor.
