Surviving Number 8. Part 6.
Taehyung didn't reply to what Jungkook had said. He figured as long as Jungkook knew he was a shitty maknae, then that was good enough. He decided not to continue the conversation and fell back asleep. Jungkook lay there in tears that got quieter and quieter until the painkillers finally fully took over and knocked him out.
The rest of the awake members were still in the kitchen. Hobi offered ramen to the others but they weren't too hungry. Yoongi settled for a slice of bread. Jimin had some cereal. Jin couldn't eat at all. He felt sick after everything that had happened.
A failure of a hyung.
"I hope they'll be alright," Jimin said, breaking Jin from his thoughts.
"Only time will tell, but as long as that asshole is out of the picture, things will be okay again," Yoongi reassured. He didn't know it was possible to be so angry towards someone. People had hurt his members in the past, but never physically like that. He was actually really hurting but he was prideful and didn't ever really like to show his emotional side. He preferred to show his love and care for his members in other ways, such as through actions. He was having trouble with that today. He had cried when he saw Jungkook and Namjoon getting hit, he couldn't help it. Was he embarrassed? No, not really. But he was hoping it would never happen again. He always wanted to portray himself as emotionally tough, not easily scared or broken down, and the last day had been rough. At least with Ky gone he could start over.
Hobi sighed and shrugged. "Hopefully."
Yoongi suddenly remembered something. "Guys! Shopping! If they went shopping doesn't that mean there's food in the car?"
The members realized this and headed out to Ky's car which was thankfully still unlocked. They went through the things Ky had bought and decided to keep any food that hadn't spoiled sitting in the car. Jimin stumbled upon Jungkook's bag of half eaten chips and squeezed it in his hand.
He stood there staring at it and couldn't help but begin to cry again. He tried blinking his tears away but Jin saw him and hugged him.
"All of that, over something as stupid as this," Jimin said while gesturing to the plastic bag. The tears streaked his cheeks. "It's not fair."
"I know it's not fair," Jin said while rocking Jimin in his arms. "I know it's not fair." Jimin buried his face into Jin's chest and cried harder. Hobi and Yoongi were quickly surrounding him in a giant hug. Jimin was always so emotionally mature when it came to his age, sometimes the hyungs forgot how vulnerable he could be. He was still part of the maknae line, he was one of their babies, and he had a heart too big for his own good.
Jimin's heart was still completely broken. He felt like since breakfast that morning it hadn't stopped cracking in half and once he saw his leader and maknae getting beaten it completely shattered and everything spilled out. He thought he would lose his mind if they hadn't gotten rid of Ky, and for that he was forever thankful for Yoongi. He was glad that he had hyungs around to protect not only him, but also everyone else. He acted mature and strong but he knew sometimes acting could be a risky thing. He could only handle so much before he wouldn't be able to handle anything at all anymore.
Hobi grabbed the chip bag out of Jimin's hand and crumbled it up, "This belongs in the garbage. I never want to see it again."
They all agreed.
The hyungs let Jimin silently cry in their arms for a bit until he sucked his tears back in and said he was alright. They grabbed the groceries and headed back inside. They put the food away and realized how tired they were, saying goodnight and heading to bed.
When Hobi and Jimin entered their room, Namjoon was laying there fast asleep.
"At least he looks comfortable," Hobi said sorrowfully. He knew Namjoon was hurting, and it killed him. He was exhausted from all the anxieties of the day. Looking at his leader made him want to curl up next to him, he wanted to feel like he was being protective. So that's what he did. He squirmed his way right into Namjoon's bed, and gestured for Jimin to join him. Namjoon didn't even stir, and although now the three of them were cramped up together, for Hobi and Jimin it was the safest and happiest they'd felt in a while. They curled up with Namjoon and let themselves fall asleep too.
Jin and Yoongi's room was silent. They both got into bed and didn't say a word. Jin figured Yoongi was probably exhausted, as he was too busy replaying the day in his head and repeating to himself that he was a failure of a hyung. He got distracted when he felt like Yoongi's body was moving weirdly. His dongsaeng seemed squirmy. He focused on it for a moment before he realized he heard sniffling.
Yoongi was crying.
He put his hand on Yoongi's back. "Yoongs?" He whispered.
"Yeah?" Yoongi replied faintly. He wiped his tears with the blanket.
"Talk to hyung," Jin gestured as he rubbed the rappers back. They couldn't see each other due to it being pitch black in the room, but Jin wanted Yoongi to know he was right there for him. Yoongi was glad it was dark. He didn't want his hyung to see him crying again.
"I don't know what to say," Yoongi whispered as he sniffled.
"Just say what you're feeling," Jin said.
Yoongi shrugged. "What I'm feeling? Depressed? Scared? I don't know, hyung. I just...I just...I was scared. It was scary. I don't...I'm not..." Yoongi started crying harder and Jin grabbed him and turned him, bringing him in close. Yoongi started sobbing into Jin's chest.
"H-hyung...I'm not...I'm not as brave as I let on," Yoongi admitted.
"I know that," Jin said. "And that's okay. You don't have to act brave all the time. We were all scared."
"He was hurting them," Yoongi cried.
"I know," Jin said as he felt his bottom lip quiver and his own eyes get watery. Apparently nobody could stop reliving the moment.
"Why was he hurting them?!" Yoongi cried. He couldn't hold it in anymore. He became a complete mess. His hyung had always been a safe place and right now it was what he really needed. He just needed someone to listen. Someone to protect him. Someone to tell him things would be okay. Someone to hug him.
And he was so glad he had Jin.
"I don't know," Jin said flatly as his tears escaped now too. They sobbed together. "I don't know why he was hurting them, Yoongi. And I can't help but feel like it was my fault. I mean where the hell was I? I'm the oldest brother. I'm supposed to know where everyone is. What everyone is doing. Knowing everyone was safe and I didn't! He grabbed them and disappeared and I didn't even know!"
Jin's guilt flooded out of his eyes as his sobbing now matched the intensity of Yoongi's. Yoongi told him over and over it wasn't his fault, and the oldest kept apologizing for not doing more. The words slowly faded away as the two were overtaken by their mental exhaustion. They passed out hugging.
Jin and Hobi were the first ones awake the next morning. It was a nice quiet morning, and while the two discussed what to make for breakfast soon everyone else but Jungkook and Namjoon were gathered in the kitchen.
Jimin ran and hugged Taehyung. "Good morning Taehyungie!"
"Long time no see," Hobi joked.
"Yeah, I wasn't feeling well yesterday," Taehyung said as he grabbed a seat at the kitchen counter.
"Is Jungkookie awake yet?" Yoongi asked.
"No," Taehyung replied flatly.
Jimin turned to Yoongi. "You know those painkillers will have him and Joonie hyung out for quite a while."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "Painkillers? Kookie and Namjoonie? Why were they taking painkillers?"
The rest of the members looked at eachother realizing Taehyung still had no idea about anything that happened. Taehyung could see the sorrowful glances among the members and it made his heart start racing.
"What's wrong?" Taehyung asked.
"Um...Taehyung-ah..." Yoongi started, "Ky hurt them yesterday."
Taehyung felt his heart freezing up. "What do you mean he hurt them yesterday?"
Jimin walked over and wrapped his arm around Taehyung's shoulders. "He uhm..." Jimin fought back tears again. "He beat them. With a belt. Badly."
Taehyung felt like the entire room was spinning. He felt dizzy. "I don't...I don't understand. Hit them with a belt? When? Why? Are you guys lying? Is this some kind of prank? I mean I know me and Jungkookie were fighting but...did he put you guys up to this?"
"You two are still fighting?" Jimin asked curiously. Has that really not been resolved yet?
"What was that even about?" Hobi asked. "We asked Kookie yesterday but he didn't want to talk about it."
"About Taehyung not eating," Jimin started.
"That's not important right now. What happened to them? Is it a joke? Why would he hurt them?" Taehyung was getting impatient. He needed to know what was going on.
Jin explained the situation, and how the two had been getting hit when they ran outside. They explained how Ky was arrested.
Taehyung felt his pulse pick up as his palms began to sweat. This couldn't be real. This couldn't be happening. Not to Jungkook and Namjoon. Anxiety filled his entire body as he began to cry.
"They'll be okay! Don't cry!" Yoongi said.
"Why didn't anyone wake me up?! I could have done something!" Taehyung yelled angrily. He didn't understand how all of that could happen and nobody cared to tell him.
"We figured it was best if you got rest. We knew you weren't feeling well and there was nothing you could have done," Jin said.
"My Joonie! My Kookie!" Taehyung cried. Oh my god. Jungkook....that's why he was crying when he came to bed last night. It had nothing to do with our fight. And all I did was treat him like shit.
Taehyung felt like he was going to throw up, but he hadn't eaten in almost two days now and knew there would be nothing to throw up. Taehyung broke from Jimin's grip around his shoulders and started to run out of the kitchen. "Joonie! Kookie!" he screamed.
"Taehyung don't wake them up!" Jin yelled after him.
Taehyung first ran to Namjoon's room to check on him. The leader was still fast asleep. Taehyung stared at him with tears bursting from his eyes.
"Joonie..." he whispered. He walked over and sat on the edge of Namjoon's bed and rested his head on Namjoon's hip as he cried. You'll be okay. You'll be okay.
Taehyung didn't understand why the situation had happened. He was livid with Ky, but thankful Yoongi had gotten rid of him. Taehyung didn't want to wake Namjoon up, but still gently played with his fingers for a few moments before kissing his hand. I love you, hyung.
He stood up and thought about the other person he needed to check on.
His maknae.
He ran out of Namjoon's room and back to his. Jungkook was sprawled out in bed still fast asleep. Taehyung sat on the side of Jungkook's bed.
He needed to wake Jungkook up. He had a lot to say, and he needed to say it now.
He gently shook the youngest. "Maknae," he whispered. When Jungkook didn't reply Taehyung shook him harder until he started to stir.
"I just need to talk to you and then I promise you can go back to sleep." Taehyung begged for Jungkook to listen, but the maknae didn't want to. He figured Taehyung was just going to run his mouth again.
"You've said enough," Jungkook whispered with closed eyes.
Taehyung grabbed Jungkook's shoulders. "No, listen to me! I'm so sorry!" Taehyung cried harder. This got the maknae's attention and he finally opened his eyes and looked up at his hyung curiously.
"I'm so sorry Jungkook-ah! I had no idea! I'm an idiot! And a jerk! I'm a total asshole! I know what Ky did to you and hyung. I'm so sorry for the things I said last night bunny you know none of that was true! You're not a shitty maknae! You've never been a shitty maknae! I love you and you know that!"
Taehyung was pleading for forgiveness. All of this mess made him quickly remember how much he loved Jungkook. The entire fight was stupid, and the mean things he'd said last night were completely unnecessary. Taehyung already knew he didn't mean any of it when he was saying it, and he knew that now he was dealing with the consequences of that.
Jungkook stared at him silently. He wasn't sure how to feel, it was a lot to take in at once. Taehyung had really broken his heart last night. But seeing his hyung pleading for forgiveness and feeling his tears splash down onto his face was getting to him. It was always hard not to forgive Taehyung. Jungkook loved Taehyung, and seeing him be this remorseful did stir his heart with the same affection he'd always had for his hyung. He began to sit up and before he knew it Taehyung had him in a death grip of a hug and was crying the hardest Jungkook had ever seen. Jungkook hugged him back.
"Hyungie, it's okay," Jungkook reassured. "To be honest I'm too exhausted to be angry anymore. All this fighting. All this stress. I don't want to carry it anymore. I'm also sorry for how I acted and the things I said to you. It wasn't fair to you. I love you hyung, and I was worried. I didn't mean to call you stupid. I want you to be okay." Jungkook buried his head into Taehyung's neck.
"It will all be okay now. They told me Ky is gone," Taehyung cried.
Jungkook smiled. "Yeah, he's gone."
The two continued to reconcile their brotherhood before heading to the kitchen together. When they got there Namjoon was awake and Taehyung ran and hugged him and told him over and over how much he loved him.
The members were able to get past the unfortunate events and have laughs over breakfast. It wasn't much, but Taehyung ate some fruit, mainly to make Jungkook happy.
After that the day was well spent. The members enjoyed the day not having to work, and not having to deal with Ky, and had fun.
Namjoon was still quite sore, so he hung out around the pool with Hobi and Jin.
The maknae's were playing a basketball game together. Yoongi sat and watched, dying laughing at how bad Jimin was before getting up and deciding to teach him a trick or two to help him score some points. He was well behind Taehyung and Jungkook.
When Jimin realized he needed a drink, he ran inside to grab water and use the bathroom. On the way to the bathroom he walked past Ky's bedroom door and couldn't help but be curious about it. Nobody had gone inside it since the man had moved in, and now that he was out of the house, was it technically even his anymore? Jimin walked inside and looked around. Nothing out of the ordinary. It looked like a typical bedroom. He saw Ky's laptop sitting on the bed and sat down, grabbing it. He wondered if he'd be able to get in. He realized nobody honestly knew all that much about the guy, only that he was an asshole and hated animals. He wanted to snoop to see if he could figure out what kind of person Ky really was, what made him so mean.
Unfortunately the laptop was locked, but Jimin didn't care. He tried to come up with a few different passwords to see if he could get in, until he failed the last attempt.
You've been locked out of your account. Please try again in 36 hours.
Jimin slammed the laptop closed. Aish. Oh well. Better luck next time.
He gave up his curious snooping and finished what he'd gone inside to do before running back out to play.
Come nighttime, the members were happy. Even Namjoon and Jungkook were in great moods.
"I don't mean to be a mood killer, but shouldn't we call manager Junso and tell him what happened?" Jin asked.
"I'm not ready," Namjoon admitted. He had already thought about having to call manager Junso, but realized..."I'm afraid to call him."
"I can do it," Yoongi offered.
"No!" Jimin protested. Everyone looked at Jimin.
"I just mean if we call him now he will be all angry, and it's been such a good day. And plus, technically he gave us four weeks off, why not try to at least take advantage of some of that? A small break will be nice, even if we only let it last a few days."
The members agreed not to call their manager yet.
They decided on fending for themselves for dinner, which Taehyung was happy about. He told everyone that he'd eaten some vegetables. He may have been able to fool his members, but he couldn't fool his stomach. It had been aching for food but he refused. He needed to lose weight. And if that meant nothing but water, then fine.
The night ended on a high note and the members went to bed relaxed.
The next morning, Jungkook and Namjoon were both feeling so much better. Jungkook's chest bruises had completely healed. Namjoon's bruises hadn't totally healed yet, but they were on the mend and he was way less sore.
A second great day for the members. They were playing karaoke in the living room when Namjoon's phone began to ring. The members turned to their leader and saw his face freeze and turn as white as a ghost.
"Who is it?" Hobi asked, concerned.
"Our manager," Namjoon gulped. The members looked at each other nervously. Yoongi realized Namjoon was too nervous to answer it, so Yoongi snatched his phone and put it on speaker.
"Hello?" Yoongi started.
Manager Junso immediately started screaming. "Jail?! You put him in fucking jail?!"
"He put himself in jail!" Jimin screamed into the phone. He couldn't hold back.
"And when exactly did this happen? Why the hell did you have him arrested?!" Junso screamed.
"The other day," Jin started. "And you want to know why? Because he assaulted maknae and Joonie! That's why! So we called the police! Just like any person in their right mind would have done!" Jin looked at Jungkook, the maknae had curled up against Hobi and was nervously biting his nails. He looked over at Namjoon, who still seemed frozen.
"That's a load of bullshit!" Junso screamed.
Just like Jimin, Taehyung couldn't hold back his anger either. "You don't believe us?! Joonie still has bruises if you'd like to come see them! He was hurting them! He deserves jail! He can't be in this team and we don't want him back!"
Yoongi couldn't help but smile at Taehyung, he was proud of the boy for speaking up and being defensive. Sometimes Taehyung could be bad at that and Yoongi personally felt like he'd been teaching him well over the past few years.
"Over my dead body he won't be in that team!" Junso screamed into the phone.
"Why would you keep him with us?! He's abusive!" Yoongi cried.
"Well he wouldn't be if you guys didn't do shit to piss him off! Don't give him a reason to hit you, and he won't! Is that so hard?!"
The members couldn't believe their ears. Was their manager really defending abuse?
"He's done here! And so are we!" Yoongi instantly hung up the phone.
"Hyung!" Hobi cried in terror. "You can't do that!"
"I just did. Let him be mad, I don't give a shit right now," Yoongi scoffed. Yoongi's bravery, or at least the bravery he let on, always absolutely amazed the members.
Yoongi could feel his heart pounding against his ribs, but he didn't regret what he'd done.
They were surprised when manager Junso didn't bother to call them back, making it easy for them to carry on with their day. Daily activities had started again and Hobi and Jin had curled up on the couch to watch a movie. They were disrupted when they heard the doorbell ring. The two looked at each other.
"Maybe someone ordered some takeout?" Jin suggested. Hobi shrugged and walked to the door.
He felt his blood run cold and his entire body freeze when he opened it and saw who was standing there.
