Surviving Number 8. Part 28.

After Mr. Lee stated that he had news, the members silently looked at each other with wide, worried eyes.

"Are you guys still there? Trust me, you'll want to hear this. I promise it's good news." Mr. Lee's voice sounded lighthearted and enthusiastic, easing the member's sudden rush of shared anxiety.

"Yeah, yeah, we are still here. Mr. Lee, next time can't you start with saying you have good news?! You almost gave us a heart attack!" Jin let out a nervous laugh, mixed with a hint of relief.

The member's found it a bit funny that Jin just lightly scolded a cop, but to them Mr. Lee wasn't just a cop. He had slowly become one of their best friends.

"What's life without a little suspense?" Mr. Lee teased. "Anyways, the trial is being expedited."

"What does that mean? We won't have as many court dates left?" Jungkook asked through the phone, leaning a bit closer to it while Namjoon held it up for everyone to hear.

"Try this, Jungkook...You guys only have one court date left," Mr. Lee replied.

All of the member's started fidgeting in their seats and asking what he meant by that. Jimin grabbed the phone from Namjoon and held it in his own hand. "Why only one? I thought there would be many after everything those two have done."

"That's exactly it, Jimin. Everything those two have done," Mr. Lee paused for a moment, glad that the member's couldn't see that he was holding back his own tears, "which was a lot of things, as you know, there was so much evidence. So, so much evidence. And even aside from the evidence, Ky and Junso already self incriminated. You saw what happened in that courtroom. They admitted their guilt upfront. The judge said there was no need for this trial to continue, it would be a waste of time. The next court date, which will be next week, will be their official sentencing trial."

Yoongi raised an eyebrow. "You mean to tell us that next week, we will know the fate of those two? Like their jail time and all that?"

"Correct," Mr. Lee replied.

"What about the others? I'm talking about the fake doctors, fake policemen, mafia relations..." Taehyung didn't understand how this could all come to a close in such a short time, but he wasn't going to complain about it. Although he was a little skeptical, because it seemed too good to be true. It was still hard for him to see the brighter side of things after all the current darkness that had surrounded him.

"Believe it or not, Ky and Junso have not been the only self incriminators. Many people we have arrested have cooperated and spoken up, and they're releasing more and more names. Anyone who had any direct relation with Ky and Junso are currently locked up awaiting trial. You guys don't even need to attend those, because as I just mentioned, everyone is telling on each other and admitting what they did. Whether out of fear or remorse, I don't know, but I'm not complaining. This is actually turning out to be quite easy."

"Huh, easy?" Jin scoffed. "I can assure you, Mr. Lee, nothing about this has been easy."

Jimin reached over and squeezed his hyung's shoulder.

"I'm sorry, Jin. I didn't mean it like that," Mr. Lee replied.

Namjoon took his phone back out of Jimin's hand. "Mr. Lee, what do you think the verdict will be? I mean Ky and Junso's at least."

"In my experience, I will say based on their crimes and the severity of them, we can expect them both to go to Island X."

Hobi laughed. "Imagine that."

"I don't want to speak before the sentencing, but you may not have to imagine it. It may very well be what the judge decides to do," Mr. Lee replied.

"Well then good fucking riddance to them! I know, instead of bringing them to Island X, push them off the damn boat before they even get there!" Taehyung's heart was pounding with anger. He didn't know if he thought Island X was good enough or not, but if Ky and Junso were going to get the worst of the worst punishment aside from the get-out-of-jail-free card known as the death penalty, then this was the next best thing.

"Anyways, that's why I was calling. I wanted to let you know sooner rather than later, in hopes of easing some of everyone's anxiety."

"Thank you, Mr. Lee. We just got out of our therapy session and I'd say it went well." Namjoon looked at everyone else and they nodded in agreement. The therapy session with Dr. Wue had them all in good spirits, and this conversation with Mr. Lee elevated their moods even more.

"I'm glad to hear that. I'll let you guys get going. Call me if you need anything, and if not, then I will see you all next week for the sentencing trial."

Everyone said goodbye to Mr. Lee before heading back home. Once they arrived back, Hobi sat at the kitchen table with his laptop. The website he had pulled up was one for buying houses, and Namjoon was the first to notice what he was doing. He went over and leaned on the back of Hobi's chair while staring at the computer screen with him. "Find anything good?" His tone was half serious, half teasing.

"Yeah, actually, there's some great places within Seoul up for sale right now." Hobi was just browsing around for fun. He knew the members still had to have a long talk about if they would really be moving or not, but part of him hoped that once the others saw him actually looking for new places to live, that it would finally open up the proper discussion.

And his plan worked, because Jin and Yoongi both overheard Namjoon's question and came over to see what Hobi was looking at. Soon, all of them were surrounding the computer and watching as Hobi browsed through pictures of different places to live.

"I suppose now would be the time to discuss this," Namjoon informed the group.

Hobi turned to see everyone nod in agreement, and they all took a seat around the kitchen table.

"So...what does everyone think about moving?" Hobi asked as his leg bounced with anxiety under the kitchen table.

"To be completely honest, I don't really care. We can stay here or find somewhere else." Taehyung looked at Hobi. "I want you to be okay."

Everyone knew this whole idea started with Hobi, and they were willing to hear him out. Hobi lead the conversation, explaining how the house just didn't feel like a home anymore. It felt like a constant reminder of repeated horrors, and he didn't want to live in a home where he couldn't even look out of the kitchen window without having constant flashbacks of him almost drowning in the pool while others were being hurt around him at the same time.

"Hear me out," Jin started, "I'm not against moving. I'm fine with moving. The only thing I'm worried about is the logistics of it. Such as what we can afford, the time and effort it will take to move, and all that. Considering right now we aren't doing any band related activities while the company works on a bunch of behind the scenes stuff, it's kind of nice being able to focus on ourselves and not have things to do while we have downtime."

Jimin decided to answer in response. "Maybe moving during our downtime would be the best time to do it, don't you think? I sure as hell don't want to do it while we are back at work. Maybe spending this time moving will help keep our minds off things."

"So you agree that you'd also not mind moving out?" Namjoon asked Jimin.

Jimin shrugged. "Whatever is best."

Hobi felt a sense of hope in his heart. He was glad to see others agree to it.

Jungkook brought up what Dr. Wue said about the good memories in the house and how they shouldn't let the bad memories win, but Hobi cut him off.

"The good memories we made here were memories with each other. We can make good memories in a new house all the same, without the lingering darkness attached to it."

Jungkook didn't disagree. He figured Hobi had a point. The house was just a house.

"Not to mention we are a lot richer now than we were when we bought this place. And we're about to be a whole lot richer if we get money from this trial," Yoongi couldn't help but smile, "which means we could afford an even bigger house with more land." He looked at Jin. "And you can have your own room again."

Jin was not about to move back into his old room, which he had given to Ky.

All of the members started smiling and giggling at Yoongi's comment but then realized he was right. They could afford something even bigger and better.

"Not to mention, as Dr. Wue had said, better air conditioning!" Jimin cheered.

The conversation soon turned into them discussing how much fun it would be to move into a better house, and all of the amenities they'd want with it. More bathrooms, more bedrooms, more game rooms, something near the water (but for Hobi's sake-not something in view of it), and more.

Before they knew it they were all huddled behind Hobi, watching him navigate the home buying website and looking through more images. Since they truly did have a lot more money than when they had bought their current home, their budget was now in the tens of millions of dollars. They didn't realize they could now afford literal mansions.

"Well, what the hell. You mean to tell me we could have afforded these the entire time?! Why haven't we moved sooner?" Jin teased.

One mansion in particular really caught their attention. It had been built out of white stone with darker cobblestone paths leading to the front door. There were various sheds and garages, walking trails with plenty of woods, and it was within walking distance of a private beach. The mansion had six bathrooms and, perfectly enough-seven bedrooms. All of which had king sized beds and walk in closets. There was a pool, but it was not in view from the house because there was a little path leading to it. Meaning Hobi could pretend it wasn't there. There was also a basketball court and tennis court.

The members all smiled and looked at one another, silently agreeing to send an email to the realtor inquiring about it. Luckily for them, this home was actually under their budget so affordability wasn't even a problem.

Hobi got an email back immediately, saying that there was an open house later that day.

"Let's go! Let's go!" Jungkook cheered when he saw the email.

Just like that, it was settled. They'd attend a private showing of the mansion later on in the day to see for themselves if it was something they'd want to purchase.

It turned out to absolutely be something they wanted to purchase, a million times over if they could. When the members were touring the inside they were already claiming bedrooms. Hobi asked the realtor if she had any current offers on the place and she said one, but it was a lowball offer. Hobi put in an offer and asked if it was better than the one she currently had.

It was a lot better.

"Can we just buy it now, then?" Jin asked. "I think we can all agree that we want this place." He looked at everyone else to see they were all on board with it.

"And if so, then we'd also need help selling our current residence," Jimin informed.

"Of course," the realtor replied.

It only took about an hour for their offer to be approved and to sign all official documents.

This mansion was going to be their new home. Luckily, it was only about a ten minute drive from their current place so moving wasn't going to be all too difficult. However, they decided they were going to focus on making sure their house sold first and relaxing before beginning to pack. They also wanted to wait until the trial was over to get that out of the way.

Hobi was absolutely overjoyed. Even back in their current house, his mood was so much brighter now that he knew they wouldn't be staying there all that much longer. He was acting a lot like his happy, chipper self again.

The entire day seemed to come and go in the blink of an eye, and before they knew it, another day was behind them. Another day that had been full of happiness and new opportunities.

Something they had forgotten existed for a little while.

Everyone called it a night after dinner, but Jin was having trouble sleeping so decided to go out into the living room and clear his mind by watching some of his favorite late night cartoons.

Jungkook had strolled out of his room and into the kitchen to grab a glass of water.

"Hey, Koo," Jin said when he saw his maknae was awake.

The next few minutes were a blur, because Jungkook suddenly grabbed the car keys off the table and ran back to Jin, clutching his stomach. "Hyung, hyung something is wrong. My stomach, ahh..." The maknae leaned over and groaned in pain.

"Kookie?!" Jin shot up off the couch and ran to Jungkook, holding his arm so he wouldn't fall over. "Koo, what's wrong? What's going on?"

Jungkook kept groaning in pain. "Hospital. Hyung, please. The hospital. I have to go. Right now. Please, hyung."

Fear shot through all of Jin's nerves. He was terrified of the hospital as flashbacks played in his head about their last visit there.

"Bunny, wait...talk to me, what's wrong?" Jin asked, his forehead beginning to sweat.

Jungkook grabbed Jin's arm and started pulling him towards the front door and outside into the dead of night, straight for the car. He took the keys and forced them into his hyung's hands, and then dropped to his knees on the ground.

"Jungkook!" Jin yelled as he knelt down next to him. "Please tell me what's wrong. What happened? Did you get hurt?" Jin stood up. "Let me go wake up-"

"-No!" Jungkook screamed as he grabbed Jin's leg. "Please, hyung. I don't know what happened but it hurts. It just hurts so bad. Don't wake the others. Let them sleep. Jin please." He curled up into a ball on the ground and started crying. "H-hyungie..."

"Okay, okay, okay. I'm right here. I'll...I'll get you to the hospital." Jin hesitated as he looked at the car keys. "I will call an ambulance."

Jungkook grabbed Jin's leg again. "No! Hyungie, we have to go now! Please! I don't want to bother anyone else!" The maknae slowly stood back up and made his way to the passenger side of the car, hopping in while still holding his stomach. "Let's go, hyung!"

Jin gripped at his hair for a moment but quickly hopped in the car behind the wheel. He looked over at Jungkook and saw him withering in pain while groaning. Jin didn't even think twice once he stepped on the gas. His only thought now was to get Jungkook to the hospital. He just wished he knew what the hell was going on. He put his right arm out and placed his hand on Jungkook's stomach. "Do you know why it hurts? Was it something you ate? Did you fall? Oh please tell me you didn't fall." Jin started to worry that it may have been Jungkook's appendix.

"I-I don't know," Jungkook whined, "I woke up and it just started hurting."

"Oh, Koo," Jin took his hand and ran it through Jungkook's hair.

Jungkook watched as his hyung, very carefully yet very determined, drove them to the hospital. Once Jin put the car into park right outside of the emergency room, he undid his seatbelt but didn't understand why Jungkook was sitting there smiling all of the sudden.

"Come on, Koo...we have to get you inside. Why are you smiling?" Jin raised an eyebrow towards his maknae when he saw that he wasn't even clutching his stomach anymore. He was just sitting there and smiling.

"I think that I suddenly feel better," Jungkook replied.

"What? What do you mean you suddenly feel better?! You were just...you were just practically dying the entire way here! What do you mean you suddenly feel better?!" Jin could feel his ears and cheeks burning, an indication of how red he knew they were turning.

"It must be a miracle or something," Jungkook replied while shrugging.

Jin eyed his maknae up and down for a moment. "You were lying to me, weren't you?"

Jungkook pinched his fingers together. "Maybe a tiny bit."

"A tiny bit?!" Jin yelled. "It's the middle of the damn night and you acted like you were seriously sick, Jungkook! I drove all the way here just for you to tell me you-"

Jin stopped yelling when he saw Jungkook silently sitting there, still just smiling at him.

"What the hell do you keep smiling for?!" Jin screamed.

"Well, because, hyungie."

"Because what? Huh? I'd love to hear it."

"Well, like you said," Jungkook gestured to Jin, who was still sitting behind the steering wheel,

"you drove all the way here."
