Chapter three
(A/N The districts people are in is pretty randomly selected, except Alex of course hes poor so he gets the poor district)
I stood next to Julie, Looking like a fire pit.
Nothing strange about that sentence here in the capitol.
I was standing on a black carriage thing, I think it was called a chariot. Horses where hooked up to the front of the chariot. There where twenty-four people here. I looked down at my paper again.
District 1- Thomas Jefferson, Angelica Schuyler
District 2- Marquis de Lafayette, Lucia Peterson
District 3- John Adams, Elizabeth Schuyler
District 4- Pete Scott, Rosemary Book
District 5- Hercules Mulligan, Peggy Schuyler
District 6- John Jay, Maria Reynolds
District 7- Cooper Oliver, Isabelle Tonks
District 8- John Laurens, Christy Heart
District 9- Charles Lee, Martha Cook
District 10- Benedict Arnold, Peggy Shippen
District 11- Alberto Cross, Ruth Ginsberg
District 12- Alexander Hamilton, Julia Wood
I heard of the Schuyler sisters. They where insane, according to all the gossip. They all went into different districts, And agreed that if one was picked, the other two would volunteer so they could die together. Peggy Schuyler was well known, so was Lafayette.
Peggy Schuyler was well known for being the person who killed Peacekeepers. when a Peacekeeper was being... Sexually inappropriate to her older sister, Elizabeth, Peggy had attacked the Peacekeeper with a rock, and brutally smashed their head over and over until their skull was visible through the blood. And she had gotten away with it. Peggy was once with the axe, if you had an axe, the image that came in mind was Peggy.
Lafayette was known for being skilled with the sword. He had trained his whole life for these games, and he had been honored to be chosen. He was expected to win according to many of the citizens.
Alberto Cross was known a bit for his knife wielding, he could use them like ninja stars.
John Laurens was known for being charming. He was kind, caring, but also had some fight inside him. I didn't recognize many of the others. I knew Benedict was supposed to be a big baby, he had been shot in the leg by a Peacekeeper a year ago and had a terrible limp. Rumors said it was because the Peacekeeper had blocked his way while he was running a race, and Benedict had attacked the Peacekeeper because he was about to win. He would never run again after his leg injury.
Thomas and Hercules where both known for being intelligent. Although Thomas was more of the brave type, to risk his life for fame, while Hercules is more of a humble type who helped those in need.
Peggy Shippen and Benedict are known as a couple, they had been lovers ever sense they first met. Although there where rumors that Peggy Shippen is a bit insane, and never really loved Benedict at all.
Suddenly the chariot started moving. I realized all the other chariots in front of us where moving ahead as well, out of the huge doorway. As we moved forward, we exited a building. Now we where on a huge open road of marble, huge bleachers filled of people where cheering at the tributes and throwing things like roses.
I made the face of 'This is stupid I should not be here'. Although Julie smiled widely, twirled around in her dress, blew kisses, and waved. A rose smacked my in the face, but I ignored it. All of this was idiotic.
The chariots reached the end of the street. The street extended into a large circle, where all the chariots stopped moving. The president, President Snow, gave the welcoming speech and talked about crap I honestly don't need to listen to. There where huge television screens showing images of all the tributes.
Some tributes wore absolute crap, even worse then me, Like weird tree costumes and some where practically made out of sparkles. Eventually the chariots started moving again, We turned around in a wide circle and then where paraded back to where we came from.
Lafayette blew kisses almost as frequently as Julie, and the crowd was chanting his name. He was dressed in a soldiers armor, with a sword on his belt and his hair up in a fluffy ponytail. Nobody could say he wasn't handsome.
The chariots went back inside the original room, and huge doors shut behind us. Haymitch, Effie and the people who dressed me come over and congratulate Julie for being so amazing. We where brought over on a long walk, I walked in silence at the back of the group while everyone talked in their high pitched capitol accents. then we went up an elevator. The elevator brought us up a huge tower, to the twelfth story where we stepped off.
It was a huge, fancy room with couches, expensive table and chairs, fancy flooring, carpets, a high-tech kitchen, and a couple doors leading off into different rooms.
"You can head to your rooms, the first training session is tomorrow morning. We'll have dinner soon," Effie said in her high pitched voice, smiling at us.
I walked away and picked a random room to go into. I opened the door to see a bed, a closet, and some simple but fancy decorations. A huge window cast a bright light in the room. I went to sit on my bed and change back into my normal clothes.
*
I looked around for my knife. It had to be somewhere, but then I realized It was still on the train. Someone had probably washed it off and put it away. I seriously thought about raiding the kitchen to find a new one, but decided I could go a day without torturing myself.
I curled up in my bed and closed my eyes, secretly hoping I could never wake up.
*
*~*
"Alexander! Dinner!" Came the happy bright voice of Effie.
"And Alcohol!" Haymitch's voice shouted.
I sighed and rolled off my bed onto the floor. I stared at the ceiling for a moment, my back hurt from well... falling on the floor. I pushed myself up and stumbled outside the room. Effie, Haymitch and Julie where all sitting at the table. The main person who had made the decisions for my clothing also sat with them. They where my stylist.
I walked over towards the table, where a large arrangement of food laid out in front of me. I grabbed a couple apples, a jar of light brown stuff, and a baguette then walked back towards my room. I could feel eyes burning into the back of my neck as I took a bite of the baguette.
"Aren't you going to eat with us?" Julie asked innocently.
I ignored her and kept walking over to my room. I opened the door, walked inside, then closed the door. I sat on my bed and finished off the baguette, then dipped my finger in the light brown stuff, and licked my finger. It tasted like peanuts.
I shrugged to myself and started dipping pieces of apple into the peanut stuff. After I finished off the food, I went back outside of the room to throw away the empty peanut butter container and apple cores. I looked over at the table. They where laughing at Haymitch as he tried to not fall out of his chair.
By now, the water inside of him was probably replaces with whiskey.
"Hey, Alexander come talk with us," My stylist said.
"Yeah come on!" Julie said, smiling.
I shook my head politely then walked away towards my room again. As I walked towards my room, I saw a person walking by. I stopped and stared at them. They where cleaning around the area. But their face... they had a kind of mask on.
It was white, and covered most of their face. White bandage-like-strings bound the mask to the persons face. It covered their mouth and their eyes partly. The person did not make a sound, they just proceeded to sweep the floor and dust some lamps. Effie acted like it was completely normal, so I guessed it was a capitol thing.
Maybe some weird fashion.
I entered my room and went to sit on my bed and be depressed. That's when I saw a single book on a dresser. I walked over to it and picked it up. The History of The Hunger Games was the title. I brought it over to my bed and opened it to the first page.
I buried my nose in the book and started to read.
