Chapter 13 // Family Size Of A Small Village
"So what happened next?"
It was lunch and Paige and I were sitting at our usual table digging into our food whilst I told her about what happened with Eli.
She looked as if she was on the edge of her seat. Her smile reached to her eyes and her hands were gripping her hamburger so tight, I could see meat juice dripping over the table.
"And then I went back to lesson" The excitement on her face vanished at the anti climatic ending.
"Wait, you mean that's it?" Dropping her burger on her lunch tray as I nodded my head, she dusted her hands together and leant backwards.
"I was expecting more of a bang.." She pouted. Smiling to myself, I stabbed at my salad trying not to laugh.
"What did you think happened exactly? You think I just started pummelling Eli?" I laughed.
Noticing she hadn't joined in with my laughing, I looked up from my salad to see her staring at something over my shoulder.
"Maybe you didn't, but im guessing Noah did." Furrowing my eyebrows, I followed in the direction she was looking and gasped.
Eli was sat with a couple of his friends supporting a huge black eye. He must have sensed that someone was staring at him, as he stopped speaking to his friend and shot me a stern glare before looking away.
Getting to my feet, I ignored Paige's attempts of stopping me.
I made a B-line to his table, and tried not to notice the puzzled glances I was getting.
I mean I understood why they were staring at me, since when have I never walked up to a Carter so casually before.
Reaching to his table the laughs of both him and his friends had stopped as he raised his head.
The piercing on his lip had been taken out Due to the small cut on his lip, and his eye was already swollen and a puffy purple.
"Eli..-"
"You can thank my brother for this" he snapped bitterly. Getting up from his seat he looked at me in disgust. "Dumb slut."
Dropping my jaw, I couldn't believe that his friends had even snickered.
Acne ridden asses.
If Eli didn't like me a couple of days ago, he certainly didn't like me now.
Scanning the cafeteria for the blonde headed asshole, they stopped at the one and only popular table.
Of course he'd be sat there.
Storming through the crowd, as I got closer I could hear and see the girls almost dripping in fake.
"Ah common, you're telling me if Jack was up against-" his sentence got cut short as I picked up the half eaten lasagna and dumped it on his checkered shirt.
Shooting up from the bench, he looked at his shirt and back at me with a flash of anger.
"What the fuck was that for?!"
Shaking my head in disbelief, his friends around him were looking up at me like I was crazy.
Did I really just chuck food on the Noah Carter, how dare I.
Oh please.
"You beat your brother to a pulp for what? For a silly threat, he's 16 Noah? How-" As he suddenly started to pull me away from the table, I had forgotten what I was even saying. His harsh grip on my hand made my skin heat up within seconds.
"Let go of me" I managed to choke out. Growling, he did as I asked and glowered at me.
"You should probably get your facts straight before you start flippin' tables at innocent bystanders." Not being able to uphold his piercing eye contact, I felt like I was naked and exposed.
Acting as if I was concerned about my chipping nail polish, I awkwardly cleared my throat and began to chew on my bottom lip.
"What do you mean? Eli said his brother did it."
Feeling his finger hook under my chin, he had slightly arched his back to get down to my height.
"I mean I didn't beat him to a fucking pulp you crazy lady." Directing my eyes to his, I had covered my mouth with hands to quieten my gasp. The word embarrassed didn't do justice to how I was feeling now. "And If you haven't noticed, my family is the size of a small village."
Dropping his finger from my chin, I saw his eyes move from side to side before a small twinge of a smile had hit his lips. Glancing around me I noticed why he had smiled, almost half of the room were still gawking at us like they were at a zoo and we were the main attraction.
"The brother you're looking for is currently spending his lunch in Mrs Tolts Detention room." He smirked. Turning around, he stopped midway and looked back at me with a mischievous smile on his face.
"I'll be expecting an apology later on." Watching his eyes quickly do a once over, he looked back at my face with a boyish smile and winked my way.
I had no control over the eye roll I had given him, or the slight flutter in my stomach.
Making my way out of the cafeteria, I stormed straight to the art block mumbling incoherent things under my breath.
I'll have to worry about making a fool of myself back there later on, I need a clear head if I'm going to verbally assault Brooks.
Passing through the art staff room, I peaked in to see Mrs Tolts with her earphones in and watching 50 shades of grey on her laptop.
No amount of hot showers will get that image out of my head, no amount.
Making my way to her classroom, I hadn't even thought twice before bursting into that room.
I wish I had.
I was this close to throwing up, this close.
Screaming out as I saw a girl I knew nothing about until this moment, laying underneath Brooks on the teachers desk, I quickly scrambled to get out of the room.
Once on the other side of the door, I started to wonder how no member of faculty had walked in on this. I'm guessing this wasn't his first time for having it out in a classroom, so how the hell has he not been caught.
I'm starting to second doubt our schools newly installed cctv.
Hearing the door of the classroom open and shut sternly behind me, I span around to face Brooks smirking towards the ground as he did up his zipper.
I couldn't help but shake my head in disgust. Girls actually found this kind of crap hot?
As he glanced up at me, he suddenly began to burst out in chuckles. His brown hair hanging and brushing the tip of his eyelashes.
I tried not to look at him like he was bat shit crazy, but the way he was chuckling to himself really had me questioning his state of mind.
"Am I missing the joke?" Crossing my arms over my chest, he raised his head with an amused smirk on his lips.
"Don't you find this funny?" He asked. "What are the odds that you of all people walk in on me boning some girl? This shit doesn't happen in real life."
Gripping on my bottom lip with my teeth as I looked him up and down with a skeptic look.
"Well it is real life, Brooks." I said annoyed by the smirk still on his stupid attractive face. "And in real life-" I hit him on his chest. He seemed surprised for a millisecond before a smile had grew on his face.
"You can't go around beating people up for no reason." I hit him on his chest again.
Taking a step towards me, my face hadn't cracked as I tried to put on a brave face. Though my mind kept repeating the word shit.
"Hit me again." He dared in a dark seductive whisper. My eyes were glued to him, making me feel more uncomfortable as the seconds went by.
Feeling my throat start to go dry, I broke the harsh eye contact and tried to remember why I was even here in the first place.
"This-" I started to speak in a squeaky tone. Coughing, I felt a slight tinge of red on the apples of my cheeks as he chortled. "This isn't the time for, for whatever this-" I motioned my hand in front of him to suggest his whole body. "Is."
"And what is-" It was now his turn to motion to himself. "This, exactly?" He said casually as he began to back me up closer and closer to the wall behind me.
Rolling my eyes in annoyance, I stopped him from taking another step by putting my hand on his chest. He looked down at my hand before looking back up at me with a smirk.
"It's me telling you to go apologise to Eli" He cocked his eyebrow and his smirk had slightly deflated. "How could you even do that to your own brother?" I dropped my hand from his chest and looked on at him, puzzled.
Pushing up his mouth as to say 'fair play', he backed away slowly with his hands stuffed inside of his back pockets.
"What he said was wrong." Running a hand down his face with a small sigh, he then placed it on top of his head as his fingers pulled at his hair gently.
"Don't try to take the moral high ground, Marina." Furrowing my brows, my lips parted as I was confused to why he needed to say that.
In no way shape or form was I taking the moral high ground.
"He's a little shit and he needed that." I chewed on my lip gently as he continued. "You may think that giving him a black eye was wrong, but i couldn't give a fuck, cause it felt right."
My eyes widened a fraction once he finished and started to make his way back into the classroom.
"Sociopath." I nurtured in disbelief.
Spinning around with his pockets in his back pockets, he continued to walk backwards.
"Nah, my mom got me tested again a few months back. Guess I'm just special." He said proudly with his dumbass smirk.
With a sly wink, he had disappeared through the classroom door leaving me dumbfounded.
Strangely the only thing that had stuck with me was the fact that he had said that his mom got him tested again.
As in more than once.
I'm living with a potential sociopath...
Great, just great.
