Chapter 9

Despite having beat Erik the day before, today he didn't pay me any mind and the training went smoothly.

Of course he kept glaring at me when he thought I wasn't watching. I'm sure it beat his ego to be beaten by a new comer who didn't know anything about combat. Thank Sekuum he didn't know about the necklace or he would've challenged me right then and there, seeing as I didn't have it on.

I spent the rest of the day in the library before returning to my little apartment complex.

It gets kind of boring sometimes, sitting here on the couch and looking at the walls. These are the times when crazy thoughts keep invading my mind and today my brain seemed to be particularly focused on Elon. I just can't stop worrying about him. I hope I can find him. I hope he can find a way to come back.

I shake my head, trying to get rid of the thoughts of never seeing him again and get up. I need to do something to keep my mind busy.

I take my jacket off the hook, grab my keys and get out of the suffocating apartment.

I don't know how but I end up walking for a really long time until I get to the boundaries of the city. I walk in the long pathway up a small hill, the leaves crunching under my feet.

I sit there for a long time, enjoying the feeling of the wind running through my hair and the distant sounds of the city, the cars beeping and the lights fading in and out.

I take a deep breath. I need to have control over my emotions. I've always hated feeling helpless and right now I'm feeling just that. It's awful.

I wish this would just end.

I sigh. We're just at the beginning. The revolution could take years to have a winner. I hope when that happens it's us and not them.

After a while of sitting there something terrifying happens that makes my heart almost stop beating.

An alarm starts blaring in the distance. My eyes snap open and I immediately go into alert.

The lights in the city start going out and soon everything is caked in black. By now I'm already standing, my heart beating fast.

What's going on?

I hear an ear blasting sound in the distance, like a jet getting closer. My eyes widen in fear.

We're being goddamn attacked!

I start running back towards the city. I'm scared shitless and as I push my legs to go faster I can hear the jet getting closer. I don't even get close enough to the city before the jet arrives. I horridly duck down and take cover. Thank goodness I'm wearing dark colored clothes.

The jet gets closer and suddenly an explosion goes off. Then another, and another, and another. All the while I keep my eyes closed and my body tucked closely to a tree.

After a few minutes the sound of the motor of the jet fades away and all that remains is silence.

I cautiously open my eyes and get out of hiding. Taking my hands away from my ears it takes a few minutes for me to hear again. The explosions and the sound of the jet made me momentarily deaf.

After a few seconds my ears stop ringing and I finally hear the heartbreaking screams in the distance.

My heart beats wildly. I still can't believe what just happened but the faint screams in the distance prove otherwise.

A shiver runs down my spine as I slowly start walking towards the city, frowning.

I can't believe that just happened.

I breathe deeply and the only thing I smell is the smell of gasoline, blood and death. I almost gag at the unpleasant smell but keep walking nonetheless.

I want to see if everyone's ok even though the sounds and screams suggest otherwise.

I finally set foot on the outer parts of the city, where there's nothing but a big road and start running.

Don't worry. Eveything's fine. Everyone's fine.

I know that's not true but I keep thinking it anyway.

I finally locate the source of the commotion and run to it, coming to halt in front of the burning part of the city.

My eyes widen. The city is on fire, not one part of it remaining untouched.

I shiver as the smell of blood hits me in the face again and I think I could faint. If it wasn't for the adrenaline running in my veins I think I would've collapsed right now.

I pull my jacket closer around me and shove my hands in my pockets, staring at the burning buildings in front of me in utter helplessness.

The first person I think of is Etan.

Where is he?

As I walk through the streets I find almost everyone lying face down, blood dripping from their bodies, unmoving, completely still.

This can't be happening.

The people who are not dead are not really in a good shape either. Some lack body parts and some cry out in pain.

I don't know what to do. It just seems like I'm the only one unharmed.

"Evin?" I turn around and find Felix staring at me with wide eyes. I stare back and after examining him from head to toe I find him untouched.

I frown at him. "Felix? How are you okay? Where is everyone else?"

His eyes harden and something passes through them, something like annoyance. I look at him suspiciously. "I could ask you the same thing."

I don't answer. I narrow my eyes at him instead. He's hiding something. I can tell.

We keep staring at each other until someone calls me. I turn around to find Etan limping towards me. His wings are wide open and one of them is hanging at an odd angle. His face is smeared with blood and his eyes look ready to kill, shining a bright purple.

His eyes find Felix and he suddenly growls loudly, running towards the Werewolf. Felix is still for a moment before his eyes change color, turning completely gold, and he growls back.

I almost don't make it out of the way before Etan clashes into Felix and then they're a growling and snapping blur. I hear Felix howl in pain as Etan breaks his leg. The Werewolf tries snapping back but the Phoenix is too fast for him.

Felix finally get a hold of Etan's torso and the go crashing on the ground. My brother's wings open wide, every feather, made of fire, growing longer and warmer. They growl as they both try to come on top.

After a while Etan finally manages to come on top but Felix uses his legs to throw the Phoenix off him.

They both stand at a distance and growl at each other, eyes wild.

"It's all your fault! All those people died because of you! You filthy son of a-"

"And why do you fucking think it was me Phoenix? Did you see me do it?"

They continue circling each other, eyes shining, feathers burning, claws sharp.

"I don't think you did it you bastard. I know you did! You're the fucking traitor who sold us off to the enemy and now because of you all those people are dead!"

The Werewolf smirks evilly. "Well to be honest I just sold you and your sister off. They already knew about the stupid organization that was trying to save the day. They knew it would will." Etan growls loudly, charging at Felix.

I step back, eyes wide in fear as the two continue to fight.

After a while Etan starts to slip in his moves and it becomes clear that Felix is going to win.

What do I do?

Felix throws Etan to the ground and strangles him. Etan desperately tries to push the Werewolf off but to no avail.

"I will snap your pretty little neck first and then move to your little sister. I will finish the job and be honored in history."

I suddenly can't take it anymore and get my legs to move a little but know that I'm not gonna make it without a strategy.

Something pulses against my thigh and I search my pocket. My hand clasps around it and brings it out.

The necklace. How did it end up here?

I don't think about it much though as I clasp it on to my neck and feel myself transform.

My eyes shine a bright blue-ish purple and my back stretches as my long flaming wings spring out of it. The power surrounds me and makes my senses more powerful.

I smirk. Time to have some fun.

I locate my target a few feet still trying to strangle my brother to death and run towards it in the speed of light.

I grab it by its neck and throw it away from my brother, on the ground.

It growls and gets up, shifting into a wolf and snapping its teeth in my direction.

My smirk widens. He's afraid of me.

What I fail to notice in my high are the creatures that appear behind me and my brother.

We both turn around, ready to fight.

I jump at one, a Demon I think, as she starts swinging at me. I dodge at inhuman speed and send a ball of fire her way. She dodges it.

Her eyes turn completely black and she growls at me. I growl back. She throws a surge of dark smoke my way and I block it, bringing my arms in front of me.

The Demon uses another surge of her dark smoke to surround me. I look around wildly for an exit. I mean I could fly but I don't exactly know how.

My eyes widen as I feel the power leaving me.

No, no, no! Not now!

I look for an exit out of the wall of smoke frantically as I feel my wings start to fade.

Now's not the time damnit!

I'm too distracted to notice the Witch appearing behind me and when I turn to her it's too late.

Many things happen all at once.

The Witch chants a spell, sending it my way. My power leaves me completely. Etan screams that he'll go get help and that I should run. I hear someone following him and wonder if he'll make it. The walls made of black smoke start closing in. The spell of the Witch hits me in a surge of green energy. I feel the world spin. The last thing I remember is a pair of black Angel wings and then I'm out like a light.
