Chapter Two
Grover and John walked down the hallway, each with a weapon in his hand. Grover had the blade from a paper cutter and Collins had his gun. They searched room after room until Collins suggested they split up. Whereas Grover protested with vigor and Collins begrudgingly submitted and gave up on splitting up.
Grover had to admit that the man's company was comforting. A lot more comforting than Diesel or LeShawn's ever was. He was calm, collected and so sure of himself that Grover didn't want to be separated from him. But something felt off about this.
Grover crept around to a pair of doors that led to another corridor. As he got closer he heard distorted sounds like grunting and growling. Grover raised the blade above his head and opened the door. He looked left and right down the corridor but saw nothing. Maybe he imagined the whole thing.
Grover glanced at Collins. "I thought I heard something."
Collins rested a hand on his shoulder and smiled slightly. "It's okay to be afraid."
Grover shot him a look before continuing down the corridor. Halfway down the hallway, he noticed that Collins had disappeared. Grover shook his head frowning slightly and continued down the hall.
It took Grover three minutes to search all the rooms before he started heading back to the lounge room. When he stepped out of the room, he halted when he heard a loud thud come from the door at the end of the hall.
Grover curiously but cautiously made his way down to the door. He reached for the knob and pulled the door open. Barrett fell on the floor and Grover backed away.
"What the..." Grover spun around when he felt the air behind him shift and ducked. Collins stood there holding a piece of wood in his hands. "What are you doing?!"
Collins didn't respond. He just swung the wood plank at him again. Grover jumped back, turned and ran. He sprinted down the hall and he knew he had to warn the others. He had to get to them. Grover pushed through a pair of double doors that led into the gym. He ran across the gym as fast as he could knowing that Collins wasn't far behind.
Grover rounded a corner and ran right into Diesel. Grover fell to the floor, bringing him down with him.
"Dude what the hell?!" Diesel exclaimed.
"Collins....he-he tried to kill me." Grover said. "Or knock me out with a wooden plank. You have to get the others and hide!"
"Not you too Grover." Diesel said, climbing to his feet.
Grover jumped to his feet shaking his head. "I'm serious! He found Barrett and knocked him out."
Diesel opened his mouth to say something but froze and stared at something behind him. Grover spun around in time to be hit with the plank in the side of the head. Grover stumbled back and fell onto his back.
"Run!" Grover pushed out between his teeth. Diesel stood still for a few seconds before Grover shouted, "Go!"
Diesel took off running and Grover felt himself losing consciousness. Collins stood over Grover and scooped him up in his arms whispering in his ear.
"Shh. It'll be okay." Collins said. "I'll take good care of you."
That was the last thing Grover heard before he passed out.
