0.4; Family trouble and Missy Bradford
"How did he take it?"
"Not good." Right now Haylee was on the phone with her current boyfriend, Josh. She was telling him about how his older brother, also her teacher and best friends father, had taken the news about them being together. Honestly, neither of them were surprised. It was Cory after all.
"What about Maya and Riley?" Yeah, that is a different story.
"Honestly, I haven't talked to them that much. I know they heard my conversation with Cory, but they don't know about me."
"Are you going to tell them?"
"Eventually, I think. I'm just not ready yet." Actually, Haylee was terrified. She didn't know what would happen if she told them. They would could get mad, disappointed, frustrated. The list keeps on going.
"Take the time you need. I'm here for you."
"Thank you, Josh"
"Your welcome, Haylee. I love you"
"I love you too." Haylee smiled at her phone. She had never been happier than she has with Josh. He brought light into her life again. He was truly the most amazing person she could ever have met.
...
When Haylee got to school the first thing she saw was Riley and Maya sitting down by the lockers. The smile on their faces made her think of the old times when they would hang out and just do nothing. All three of them missed that.
"Hey, Reed. See you still go on that diet I told you about." Then it was her. The one that ruined Haylee and her friendship with the two girls.
"Wow, Bradford. I thought you stopped being like that after 6th grade."
"I did. Just not to you." Missy smiled at Haylee before leaving her at the top of the stairs. What it was that Missy hated about Haylee, no one knew. Why she was like that, no one knew. No one knew anything.
"Hey. You okay?"
"Yeah, Riley. I'm fine. Don't worry."
"You sure? It seemed like you didn't like her."
"I don't. Just go to class, Riles."
"You coming?"
"Nah. I have to do something."
"But-" Before the brunette could say anything Haylee was gone.
"Okay, then."
...
"I need to talk to you." Cory jumped as the door to their apartment was shut close. Haylee stormed towards him as Auggie and Topanga ran into the living room. Auggie was refusing to put on his pjs which was odd as he used to love them.
"I can't wear those anymore!"
"Why not?"
"Because she won't like them." She? Does Auggie have a crush?
"Hey! I'm the only one she who gets to see you in your pyjamas."
"You never know."
"Well this is a family problem so I'm just gonna go.."
"Sit!" Haylee did as Topanga said and sat down. She feared that woman sometimes. She could be quite scary sometimes.
As they talked about Auggie and growing up, Haylee started to regret coming there. It might not have been that smart after all.
"Goodbye." Auggie said to Mr. Googley as he laid it on the table before walking to his room. His parents looked devastated as Cory picked up Mr. Googley.
"Haylee, why don't you go to Riley and Maya?" Mrs. Matthews said as she looked at the young girl
"That's why I needed to talk to you."
"Talk away."
"I'm scared that if I tell them about what happened to me that they will hate me."
Topanga got up and hugged the girl, "Honey, they could never hate you. They love you."
"They don't even know that it's me."
"Don't worry. Deep inside they do."
...
As lunch came around the next day, Haylee felt sick. She always did around lunch time. It was the most hated part of the day to her.
Haylee was looking around to find a place to sit when she saw Riley, Maya and Farkle together. Well, I have to talk to them at some point. What could go wrong?
"Haylee. Nice to see you here." Talked to soon.
"Hello, Missy."
"No lunch today either? That's so unhealthy."
"Whatever."
"Your not starving yourself are you?" That made Haylee's blood boil.
"You know what, Bradford? Your not any better than me or any one in this school," By now, most of the kids in the cafeteria were looking at Haylee, "You're just a spoiled little brat that needs to be teached a lesson."
"Haylee, calm down." Lucas was getting scared of seeing this side of Haylee. It was much worse than what Maya had.
"Shut it, Friar." You could see how pissed Haylee was. Who wouldn't be though? Missy had ruined her life. "You have no right to torment me anymore, Missy. If you ever do it again, I will make you wish that you never even knew my name."
"Enough! Miss. Reed you have detention!" Great. Just great. Getting detention from the only real male role figure you have in your life. Life is great.
Haylee was so done with Missy now that when she sat down with Maya and Riley, she punched the table making the two girls jump.
"Riley, she's too good. You can't compete with her." You tell her, Maya!
"I don't want them together. I don't." And there goes Riley.
"This is not gonna end well, is it?"
"Nope."
...
Turns out Lucas and Missy got detention too. And Riley and Maya. How any of them got detention, Haylee doesn't know, but at least she's not alone with Missy Bradford. She would have gotten suspended from school if she was.
"Alright guys. I like my detention to have a little learning in it. So, I'd like to continue talking about Pearl Harbor and what happened after the sneak attack," Mr. Matthews said as he started the lesson. Haylee couldn't help but look at Lucas and feel sorry for the poor guy. "The world was at war, and alliances were forcing battle and were made stronger because of that." Haylee, Riley and Maya all looked at each other. They all had something against Missy so that was their alliance.
Then Farkle came by the door and walked in, "What is this place?"
"It's detention, Farkle. It's not for you," Mr. Matthews said and looked at him.
"If my friends are in it then it's for me." Well Farkle in detention. Never saw that coming.
Cory continued with his lesson, "During this war, The United States was put to one of it's greatest test's. One of them made a threat to our way of life. But because we were united, we prevailed."
"Hey, Haylee. Missy invited me to go see a movie with her." Good luck with that witch then, cowboy.
"I think she's aware of that, Lucas. No need to make her feel worse." Shut up, you brat.
"And I was wondering if maybe you guys would like to come along with us." That made the group smile, especially Riley, "You want us?" That totally made Missy mad. "I'm sorry, Lucas. That wasn't the invitation."
"Oh. Well then. I'm sorry, Missy, but I can't go."
"What are you talking about? No one has turned me down ever in my life." Sucks to be you then.
"Well see, these are my friends. And I don't like doing anything without my friends." Haylee looked at Lucas who looked at her before flashing him a smile. "Right, Haylee?" She smiled even more, "Yeah, right." The little group of friends smiled at each other. This is true friendship.
Missy looked pissed as Lucas talked to her before she left, "Grow up."
"Not yet." Both Haylee and Riley said at the same time. Maybe telling them the truth won't be as bad as she thought.
"Oh she's leaving? Okay."
Riley turned to look at Lucas, "Hey."
"Hey."
"You know what the easiest thing about having friends is?"
"What?"
"Sometimes all you have to do is trust them." That made Haylee think. Maybe she shouldn't be afraid to tell them after all.
"When peace sign came, The United States enjoyed it's lurid of growth, prosperity and happiness," they all looked at each other, "Detention over."
"You guys coming?"
"No. We're good right here."
