Chapter Two
The Alpha Lennox Knight of the Knight Community was not to be confused as the actual ruling Alpha of the Knight Community. His son, Alpha Nicolai Knight was the one who ruled governed the pack. The title of Alpha was one which remained after one was retired but it seemed as if Alpha Lennox wanted to give the illusion that he was not really retired.
"Girl! What is your name?" He asked me, as the group walked back to his pack.
Throughout the journey, the wolves and his militant men watched me warily, the distrust so ridiculous as if I had any chance of being able to take all of them down. Ever so often I unconsciously would slow down, but each time I was reciprocated with the feral growl of the wolf that guarded me.
I was bare feet. The bottom of my feet were sore from the continuous march through the canopy. The journey was very long, the hours that we walked for was unknown, my calves burned, because at their pace it could be considered almost jogging. The coarse, rocky terrain of the forest and the rough slithery roots of trees, injured by feet, I winced every time my foot felt the floor.
The branches of plants and short trees dug into the flesh of my exposed arms, the familiar itch of the nettled trees and thorned bushes encompassed my arms.
"I said, what is your name, girl?" Alpha Lennox asked again louder, snapping me out of the thoughts that consumed my mind that tried to distract me from the events occurring.
"My name is Amelia Soren," I said solemnly, trying to keep my voice steady and control my fear.
"Amelia, there are strict rule in the Knight Community, you are also expected to adhere to each of them." He said to me.
"Is a Soren is even capable of that, Lennox?" Someone asked from beside him, chuckling darkly.
I narrowed my eyes at the disrespectful individual and mustered up a distasteful glare at him. It was a tall, dark skinned man, who marched shirtless along with the Alpha, his body glistening with sweat.
The situation was very clear and it was my pack, the Sorens who had not betrothed an unborn child to another child because her mother ate a few berries. This was the twenty-first century! But then again, I knew that my mother had just given them an opportunity to undermine the Soren Alpha.
Alpha Lennox laughed darkly along with the man, before he looked over at me, "There will be punishment for disobeying commands and rules. Hopefully, the Sorens taught you some decency." He said in a hard voice to me.
I stayed silent and instead looked ahead to where we were going, ignoring his derogatory comments. The emerald foliage trees bordered the path to the Knight Community. The melodious chirping of birds and the scurrying of the woodland creatures was ubiquitous as it echoed through the forest air and the scent of grass and the sweet smell of flowers was unfortunately overpowered by the pungent scent of the Knight soldiers.
My frown instantaneously deepened, my eyes widened immediately and the fear for my life suffocated me as I felt the radiation bloom inside me from leaving Soren land and entering Knight territory. The link had been strengthen to accommodate my exit.
"Welcome, to The Knight Community," Alpha Lennox's voice boomed throughout the forest. The voices of the birds had stopped and the forest animal stilled and I felt my body become heavy as I entered dangerous territory.
My mouth dried and my legs trembled slightly as we exited the forest and approach a field with people that reeked of that stupid signature scent of Knights. My stomach churned in disgust and my face probably gave away how much I detested this pack and this situation because Alpha Lennox pulled me up.
"You better behave yourself, this pack has no tolerance for delinquency and we have harsh punishment for disrespect." He said to me harshly.
"Yes, Alpha," I said, the word Alpha difficult for me to say to this man, much less with respect. I swallowed the bile that threatened to exit me.
"Come girl," he said mimicking my tone and incorporated distaste, as he walked towards a beautiful, white mansion.
As we entered the large modern home, I was amazed by the beauty and decor of the interior of the house. It was richly furnished with modern furniture that looked very expensive. My mood instantly soured, the Soren Community was struggling with a famine and they were enjoying their riches but couldn't spare a pregnant woman a few berries. These people disgusted me. Alpha Lennox disgusted me.
Maybe his son, Alpha Nicolai would sympathize and allow me to go but with the treachery that came with the bold of Knights, he was probably the worst of them all.
"Follow me," Alpha Lennox said stiffly as he walked up some stairs.
Opening a pair of white double doors, it revealed a beautiful, spacious greyed themed suite, once again I was wowed but I made sure to keep it to myself.
"This is where you'll stay," he said before he showed me where the bathroom was.
"Thank you," I managed to choke out, remembering my manners. At least he didn't throw me in the dungeon, and I'm very grateful for that.
"My son, the Alpha, Nicolai, is not in pack lands. He will be returning in four days," he said looking at me from head to toe in with narrowed, "I expect you to be cleaned up and well groomed when he is back and officially meets you. There is clothes for you in that closet." He said and pointed to a whited crested closet.
I didn't think I looked that bad, there was a few leaves stuck to my clothes and some sludgy mud splashed on my legs. I just nodded in acknowledgement.
"There are guards surrounding the place, but I know you are wiser to know that if you try to escape what will happen to you and your pack. So I know you won't try anything, am I right?" He asked darkly.
"Yes, Alpha Knight," I said in a hushed voice.
He looked at me pointedly before walking down the stairs and and out the door. I stood atop the stairs and looked down. The man from before stood broodingly at the front door, glaring slightly at me.
What's his problem? I didn't want to be here either.
"Don't do anything stupid," he shouted out at me, his voice echoed through the foyer.
I narrowed my eyes in distaste at him before I spat out, "No promises,"
He glared at me before exiting the house, the sound of the door being slammed and the mechanical sound of the door locking could be heard.
I sat at the top of the stairs. What am I going to do now?
