9.| heartfelt farewells
'Here I am. Tied to this suppose diabolical weather altering machine. The rope burn is freaking real. Just great.'
Les had the ray beam gun pointed to Brady, myself and Mack. I was less than impressed with the whole situation.
" In mere moments, less time than it takes for me to steal this scene.." doctor fusion's sneeze disrupts his 'dialogue', I bite the skin inside of my mouth holding in a laugh.
'You gotta take this part of the movie seriously, mor.' " this machine will change the weather patterns, I shall take possession of big Mama's." Fusion intrudes on Les's scheming.
" Big Momma's." He says, cheering at the possibility of being able to finally have her place. I badly want to say something but decide against it. " And.. all your friends will disappear forever. Or longer!"
I stare at him, strangely. Now I decide on speaking up. " But.. forever is longer than well.. you know, whatever you think you have in your mind, Though. So the schematics of it, and time, does contradict majorly what you're implying. It's simple really to understand. That is just I am thinking." I shrug, feeling an itch forming on my wrist, candidly. " Plus. There is a flaw in this plan you have. I'm sorry to have to say." I added on. Mack and Brady share looks.
" Oh, really, young lady. And that is?" He looks genuinely confused on what I had to say for his grand scheming master plan.
" isn't there always one flaw with these plans, usually? I'm no expert but there usually is." Mack says, to Brady. The lighthouse is quite chilly, creepy, as Les laugh bounces off the bricks.
" Well! I'm off to measure the beach for a resort parking lot." I try being blank faced but fusions laugh is funny, and my lips stretch in a smirk so I stare at the ground as he rolls out a tape measure.
Les and fusion do the infamous villainous 'evil laugh'. 'Oh bother.'
" How dumb could he be to have these so loose. Fusion cannot be a real villain." I untie the knot on the rope bounds fusion did around my wrists, once he and Les have left the room.
" Mor?! How did you undo that? You took those off like it was nothing." Brady exclaims, I had hours of movie behind the scenes and real life footage from YouTube on how to escape. It came in clutch here. " fusion and less did a horrible job at tying those knots. It's child's play." I massage the rope burn on my skin.
" it could be worse." Brady made a comment, I agree. ' It's not like we're in an alternate reality oh, wait, yes we are.' I toss aside the faulty rope. The choreographers could have done classes before the movie production.
'Villain one on one. How to tie a knot, step one.' Doctor fusion's chalk board of his diagram and progress to the weather machine is on full display for all to see.
" at least Mor, and I's, favourite movie wasn't tarantulas on a train." I hear mack splutter a laugh, which sounded more of a realisation moment you hear when you think about an important piece of life changing information. Which sounds real odd but it made all the sense if you think about it.
" if we hadn't have come here, I'd be on the plane right now, heading to some private school.. to become something and someone I really don't wanna be. I would be away from not only you but .. Mor. She needs me and I need her. I can't let her down, she's my best friend. Sister. I.. was too selfish to see that I was hurting her. I'm sorry, Morgan. I'm so sorry."
I had already forgiven her ages ago, at the beginning of the movie. Hearing her apologise made me cry actual tears this time. I wipe it off. " I accepted way before your actual apology, Mackie. But thank you... thank you."
She sniffles back tears, smiling softly. " I was telling Lela to follow her heart. Do what she loves, and she did. She is more courageous than I will ever be. You as well, Mor."
That's far from the truth, Mack is stubborn and tough never taking things for granted. Brady says what he and I are already thinking. " Not true. You're braver, this is for you as well Mor, than anyone I know. Life throws us obstacles, like this. And you thrive in it." I couldn't ask for a better older brother.
" I'm tied up, but at the same time, I've never felt more free." Mack says. a metaphor for literally being tied to a death ray machine which intends to destroy the beach.
" you guys were right. What is the hurry to grow up, when I could be stuck in nineteen sixty two with you and my best friend? I actually wouldn't have it any other way or in a circumstance better than this. Well not better.. but you know what I am saying."
An original version for 'meant to be' ascends in tune and I look away because of how romantic it sounds, mack begins her first verse. Brady duets with her and lovingly stares.
Fusion had came back, his ginormous wrench in hand, I pretend I wasn't untied sitting in the place he left me sat. " Just one more screw left and then we will be ready to change the world." His eyes go wide in 'Craze', the acting is definitely a C grade not the greatest.
" do you really want to do this? Ruin the lives of all these people, when they haven't done nothing to you. I mean think about it." I fake plea, acting my sixteen year old heart out.
Mack gets the message following my lead, as well. " just because you can magnify the power of nuclear plutonium by six hundred and forty seven degrees, doesn't mean you have to follow through with your diabolical plan." I stare at her, impressed lacking the slightest doubt of my genuine shock she knew all of that. " What? It's not like I never paid attention while you and mor watched the film." Fusion gets in Mack and i's faces. Quizzically staring at us. " how did you know that? Who are you girls?".
My turn to talk. " Well you see, Doctor fusion. You're not real. My brother, and best friend, here along with I.. we are from the future. Which means we knew all about your master villainous plan. But in the end you fail. Simple. Ain't it?" Fusion switches to now he is leaning his round, bald, head next to my face. Quite closely. I shift leaning away. " so.. I'm nothing but a spectacle on the silver screen? A flicker? For all of those to see and laugh at?" That's basically it. Mack speaks up.
" Yeah. What she said pretty much summarises what is going on. This moment. You're an actor." Les came rushing in, flailing his arms, cawing like a scared chicken in a farm pen.
" Bad news! Bad news! The surfers and the bikers have united together in order to destroy us. And save you two, and the young lady here!"
I laugh, at his ridiculous screeching. Fusion stares in the lens of a cinematic camera, and its audience. Mysterious sound effects enter for dramatic action realising he is in a movie.
" Doctor. It's time." Les said staring off in space, if reading a script on big white paper off to the side. Rehearsing. " The machine, man!"
'That cannot be good.' I know this all fake, a film with very fake elements to make it appear real, it's still tense. Dr. Fusion strides to the operational pad that has levers, pulling all four to start up the machine.
'Don't press the red button. And .. he did. Oh crap. Now we are in deep trouble. No good. No good.' How am I suppose to relax knowing butchy is on his way but from the knowledge I knew he is terrified of lighthouses. Of all phobias to have. He has an irrational fear of a building.
'So that is going to be entertaining to see.'
'Surf crazy' instrumentals came on and yelling war cries enter my ears, surfers and the bikers all rush in to save the day.
" Butchy. You're here but h.. never mind. I'm so glad you are." Butchy came hurtling towards where I am sitting fully expecting to be the hero of the day but is flabbergasted when I stand up, cheekily showing the prop ropes.
" That's my girl!" He cheered, I giggle as he spins me on the spot and kisses me straight on my mouth. It's crazy. All the surfers had found any use of an item as an instrument of weapon. Bikers's well.
" Mor! Mor! We came to rescue you, Brady and Mack! I'm so happy you are not hurt. We all came as one to help, knowing it was good to put aside our rivalry to save you guys!" SeaCat mentions.
" Help us ruin the board! Here!" I caught the eraser he gave, glancing to Butchy and he kissed my cheek pushing me in the way of the chalkboard. Struts gave me a quick, second, hug smiling before theatrically throwing a wink at Doctor fusion and urges me to start cleaning the board. SeaCat joins.
I laugh in joy hearing fusion repeat 'No'.
This was way too much fun. " Aw. Look at that, Lela and Tanner are together. They didn't need help after all." I say to no one I particular. Butchy offers a hand and I take it, tripping on thin air in his arms. This time LugNut wasn't the one to have knock me down.
The electrical strum of a guitar plays in the back. We laugh at the moment before I go to help Lela and Tanner free my brother.
Les is cut off my bikers, striking a pose to stop him. Giggles is standing and moving her hips in a wave as she does, smiling innocently. Ride the perfect wave say hi to the sky. Surf sun sand! It's a bikini wonderland. Crazy for the waves, yeah. Cruisin for a bruisin'. Chee Chee, either Rascal, are teaming up chasing Les with a rope for their intention of tying him up.
" we can't break this thing apart!" Rascal, panic, says. All the bikers and surfers were failing to tear apart this machine. You would think it'd break easy, it's cheaply built. The budget was not the greatest. Struts was using her pink heel to try and 'break it down'. Butchy is attempting unbolting each cog and screw.
" wait. This motor isn't much different than a four-stroke, five hundred cc, flat-twin, air cooled Wankel with shaft final and rear-wheel drive." Lela concludes, coming to a verdict but I really wish she would use words non-bikers knew. Violent purple blueish lightning bolts of energy generating out in the air are getting loud and stronger every minute we're wasting. " The kind you guys refurbish all the time." I stare at butchy, leaning on the edge of the rail.
" what does she mean, by that, baby? We aren't all good bikers like you and Lea." I slip the pet name out without thinking for a good second, too late to cover my mouth as I hear 'Ooe's'.
" She's right, about the machine. But the thing is, simply, we can't stop it unless we are talking 'bout taking down the whole damn thing. Especially with these sausage fingers. It's not an option." He explains in terms I understood.
I watch Lela remove a Bobby pin out of her hairdo. " I have something that can help." She jams the pin in, lodging and clogging any other mechanics in the device, it faults. Sparks fly, her legs lose their grip and she begins to fall.
" sis! Morgan. Oh no.. watch out." Butchy pulls on my hand tugging me back, protecting me. Tanner catches Lela. Parallel to how he was suppose to have caught her in the main sequence of the movie. Sirens wail warning of catastrophe coming.
" Oh, look out! This whole things gonna blow. Come on! Let's get out of here! We gotta go. Now! Now!" Surf! surf! Surf surf crazy. Yeah. Yeah. And we go surf crazy.
Butchy pulls my hand and we race out of the lighthouse. Steam fills the space in our path. ten seconds after there is a massive blast that rocks the very ground, a miniature earthquake happening.
I look behind; amazed is one of the words, I could describe and I am feeling, seeing fire.
" We did it. We actually did it. We defeated Les." I whisper. 'But that means.. No. it can't.' I blink then seconds later I am standing on the sand, next to mack, in different outfits. This time I am wearing a tight, skin fitting, red holster shirt and match it to a red lined black leather jacket. With dark grey skinny Jeans. " The movie is back on track. Now.. it's back." I state the obvious, matter of fact.
" we can .. leave." This is the point where I was suppose to feel accomplished but instead feel empty. 'It was always going to be this way. I just wish it's longer.' " There they are!" SeaCat calls out, running to us cheering. lifting me up and celebrating the success of taking down Les I hold him tight. " See! Because Girls can do what boys can do." Lela leaps on my body, I catch her and we both do little giggles.
Butchy came towards where I am standing, I hold in those tears which I wanted to so badly let go of. I snuggle in his chest just needing to feel his touch. He uses the palm of his hand to hold me in place behind my neck. " We gotta go home." Brady, resolute, tells Lela.
This causes Murmurs to circulate in sadness. I look through tear stained eyelashes, to Butchy. He let a tear drop. " what? No. Stay. It's always like this, perfect. Always summer. Nothing could beat this. Just please stay." I had my head resting on Butchy's arm, listening to his breathing calmly changing. Lela's words were authentic, meaningful. I wish I could stay. 'I would give anything to be here forever.' I pray.
" You guys saved big Momma's. And for that we are, to you, gratefully grateful. If you guys never had came here.. I wouldn't have met the love of my life. Morgan, I love you. No matter where you are, if it in a completely new world so far away. I will forever love you. You is the girl for me."
I couldn't bring myself to talk, knowing I would begin uncontrollably sobbing. 'I don't care if I am dramatic. This is the first time I've been happy. And it's being taken from me.' But I croak out those three words which were true.
" I love you, as well and too, Butchy. I love you." I nod giving Butchy a long, hard, hug.
" Ever since you guys got here, it's been like.. it's been a different world." Lela states, her face slowly shifting in sad and despaired. " it's not just because of us." Mack and I reply, there was a moment to pause. Reflecting on what has happened in the last three days.
" oh! Here. Mack this for you! I don't know what I could give you, Mor. I wish I had more than a necklace. I'm sorry." Lela unclips her Hawaiian flower necklace placing it around Mack's neck. A symbol of friendship. which will last forever.
Butchy brings me out of the group, as Lela and Tanner say goodbyes. Away from the bikers, surfers, Mack and my brother. He dug in the pocket of his leather vest, to retrieve a grey satin ring box. Opening it inside is an old, antique, embellish piece of old silver ring. " This is a promise ring. That we will always be together, not matter the miles, which I can nots drive my bike to but none the worse. I, do has the option of swimming and coming to you. I hate the water but anything for my girl'."
My hand trembles, accepting his ring. " I love you." I mumble; knowing what I do feel is real. Screw those who think being young and 'stupid' means we don't know true love. Cause I found my one true love and he's real as ever. " I love you, Baby. Forever. Yeah?"
I nod, strongly. " forever."
That is a promise I could never and will not break. I walk at Butchy's side, each step feeling as though I'm one step ahead of not ever returning back here, hand in his. Brady had his hand in Mack's, rascal returned my surf board with Big Poppas board.
SeaCat, even LugNut, did dramatic wipes of their noses though LugNut wanted to be Macho. Tough. " You ready? Mor." Brady asks, wanting to know if I were to change my mind last minute. " Let's go." He mutters, Mack and him made a run for the ocean.
However I stop half-through, halting in my tracks, staring at Butchy. I ran back to him, his arms already open for me, and i kiss him as a last goodbye. Our hands slip through each other's fingers, an invisible string breaking in to threads of nothing, backing up and going to the shoreline.
Brady stops me, as my legs Wade through the ocean. " What do you want, Mor?" I'm confused. " I see how you are when you're here. I'm your brother, and I know you. You're happy here. If you don't want to come home, it's completely your choice. Mack and I have spoken about this, before hand, when you were at Lela's yesterday. It's your turn to make your own destiny and choices." Mack smiles, as if signing she is okay with which choice I made.
I embrace mack, crying in relief. She shushes my cries nodding. " You will always have a sister, a best friend, in the real world. Go and be happy, Mor. It's what you deserve." Brady brought me in for one of his awesome hugs, not needing to speak a word for him to say what I already knew he would. " I love you, B." I mumble. " there is no other boy I wanted as my brother. Because I have you." He ruffles my hair, messing it entirely up, I chuckle; amused.
I ran back to Butchy, permanently staying in his arms from now onwards. " Does this mean.. you.." I nod, furiously, I squeak when he raises my legs up wrapping them over and around his body. I hug him, locking my arms right across his neck. " I'm staying. For good." Rascal woot's, pointing to Mack and Brady who wave to each biker then surfers.
" SURFS UP."
' Surfs up, dudes.'

JASMINE SPEAKS;
And that is Surfs up completed. Oh my gosh. I actually was legitimately choking up as I wrote these final scenes between Lela, Tanner, Brady, Mack, Butchy and Morgan. I decided I couldn't tear them away, no I am not cruel.
I just can't keep have those two cuties not together. So now Morgan is in Wet side story.
What are your thoughts on how I ended the story? Did you like how I wrote this? Leave your comments and thoughts. Don't forget to vote. I cannot thank you enough for these amazing supportive words and encouraging me. Teen beach movie means so much to me.
