2.| Wet side story

I know I should have heard Mack out and tell her side of why she all of a sudden is leaving. I just couldn't handle why she didn't tell me sooner. Ever since being children, little girls, we would never allow secrets to contradict the truth.

'Why now wouldn't she say anything.'

That is when I found myself in Mack's bed room, silently following her movements as she packed away her life. In suit cases. A trunk is open, portraits of brady and her in hand. Startled by me standing still, watching,

Mack smiles sympathetically. Eyes apologetic.

" Mor. You came back. I thought I wouldn't be able to say a farewell." My mouth forms a faint smile.

" I'm so sorry I never told you. I broke the no secrets rule. I wanted to tell you but it would have been a reality I couldn't accept. Where I had to leave you behind." She places down the photo frame in a crevice, next to a lock box. My eyebrows stitch together.

" I shouldn't have just walked out on you like I did, yesterday. Brady told me you and him decided, mutually, to break up. That sounded hard." Break ups were hard from evidence and movies showing how dramatic they can be.

But there was love which still blossoms even after the effects of it. I can attest to the fact brady and mack still have love that is strong. It's honestly very sad.

" Here. Let me help you, Mackie." I unravel my arms, from crossing over my chest, moving to her bed lifting the lime green travel bag. I couldn't stay mad with her. She is my best friend, practically sister.

I have two arms encase my neck, Mack is usually not a hugger but I might or might not have changed her views on physical contact.

This is always a cause for me to smile. I held her arm, laying my ear to her shoulder. " you need to message me when you arrive. So I know you're safe." I feel her nod, then she pulls herself away. Not trying to cry. I turn the door handle, going to roll the suitcase I had, then Mack pauses. That is where I see the familial board standing horizontally.

'Did Poppa take it down?' I thought I was crazy, seeing a yellow-ish gold gleam outline on its flower. I turn, angling my head staring in Mack's way. She copied that exact expression. 'I know the look. We are so riding that wave.'

There is no denying a storm is heading our way. Staring out in the ocean, wind whistling a synoptic sound of Thunder, swells creating an ominous emergence in wave barrels. Something tells me this might not go well. I am standing, leaning on a lifeguard stationed chair which could see out to sea.

Mack, uncertain, is next to myself bouncing on her feet soles.

" Sup." Brady came to take a stand, wearing his trademark yellow rash guard swimsuit. 'Well. Then this is awkward.' Though I knew when it came to Mack, she is mature.

" How'd you know I was gonna be here?" Simple. He, too, realise how predictable she is. She couldn't stay away from a once-in-a-lifetime day like this.

That would be insanely out of character.

I shouldn't be this nervous for an event such as what is happening. Tingles of adrenaline race in my system. " I just came to watch you, and Morgan, surf. Not to propose." Now I wouldn't complain about having the honour of being Mack's sister-in-law.

the thought that brady proposing made me giggle at how he would be the most ridiculous husband. Never in our lives would or could imagine him married.

" Well. You are going to be shocked at how I can handle this wave, B. Watch this." I begin sprinting to the waters edge, the ocean wades and ripples on impact.

I felt free feeling my legs touch the sea. Mack joins, jumping stomach first on her board, laughing melodically. I paddle out and use my body strength to push the board I am using forward. Rain drops are falling on the mirage, wind gaining speed. Diving under an oncoming tide, I breach the surface opening my eyes blinking back water droplets off my eyelashes.

A riptide began flowing underneath, wanting to pull me down. I lift my torso, using buoyancy of the water as an aid to stay upright. Other people surfing are knocked off each of their boards.

A lone wave was coming towards where I am floating. Good five feet, definitely nearing six. Turning to face the shore I begin swimming, gaining speed, before standing on my board arms wide open and loosening in position to keep me from slipping.

Riding the wave. Feet hip-width side to side, I retract both shoulders back in a relaxed way as to not create tension. I laugh, loving the deafening roar of water splashing. My eyes blow out in surprise, a rogue wave coming out from behind the one I exit out of.

" Oh no."

I successfully dodge the wave, managing to escape nose diving under it. Ascending out of the water, my ears pick up trill sounds of a whistle. " That was honestly too close. Where did McKenzie go? Wait. Is that the lifeguard whistle?" The lifeguard parades around his red flag indicating every surfer moves to land. Out of danger.

'No. That is not happening. I'm not missing this.' I have wished to experience this since I first heard of it coming from the north on the news. If risking my life and safety, how ridiculous I would be, I don't care. I finally see mack a good one hundred metres out to sea heading to a humongous tunnelling tidal wave.

'Why do I have a feeling this won't end well.' I speed up my swimming, the strength of it causing a burn to sear in tendons of my arms and legs yelling at me to stop. I hear a JetSki motor coming in close, where I am.

I look over my left side upon noticing it's Brady. He is here to guide us out. " Get on, Mor. It's not safe."

I couldn't abandoned my board dad got me for my fifteenth birthday. I take my Brothers offer, grabbing on by his hand, being lifted on the ski. " Mackie. Come on, let's go back. I'm not entirely certain about this anymore. Don't do it." I say, over the loud thundering noise of each passing wave.

" I have to. Mor. I'm sorry." Brady and I call out to mack, it goes out of deaf ears for her. 'This is not good. Not at all.' Then as we watch her try riding the oncoming wave, everything goes wrong. She falls in the water. her board flips through the waves.

" Mackie!"

Not thinking, or having a life jacket to save me from drowning, I dive in. Splashing is heard as Brady enters the deep unforgiving depths.

I take deepened breathes, coughing out water from my lungs, forcing my body to calm down. I had sea salt stinging the corners of my face.

" What the actual hell. Where are the clouds?" I don't know for certain why that is the first sentiment to come out of me but it was. Mack swam my direction, brady pushing his body to where I am. " Mor. You are okay. And Brady, what are you doing. And the.. the storm. Where is the storm? I have so many questions I want to know the answer for right now." Me as well. The sky is unusually bright, blue, pink hues. I spat out water, in disgust at the salt.

" My board!? Where is my boa.. there it is." I was near having a panic attack realising my surf board is floating a few strokes away. It's easy to notice, Lilac and has jasmine flowers on vines.

'Land. Finally. Some land.' Mack was beginning to argue how she didn't wish brady to try 'saving her'. I am certainly sure I was an outright huffing mess, my chest heaving wanting to inhale large quantities of air, walking out of the waves. " this is the part where you tell me I'm your hero and then you shower me with kisses." Ew. I know he is meaning Mackie but picturing her kissing my brother would be burned in my imagination.

" I didn't need saving. This was my last chance to ride that monster wave before I leave. Forever, with my best friend who I upset with keeping it a secret, and..."

Am I seeing this right? A girl who startlingly shares the looks of giggles, on cue, shimmies in the air. Her iconic pink outfit shining out of everything else.

" is that.. N-No. that couldn't. Giggles?" I mumble her name. The crescendo to 'Surf crazy' begins dialling up in volume. 'There is not a single thing and possible solution, answer, to what I am seeing. Right now.'

Mack is also disbelieving what is happening right now. " Brady. Brady." She stutters following me as I stumble to hide out of sight, behind a cap sided boat.

Blue skies gentle breeze, what a day. Sunshine and sweet harmonies time to play. No more complications, from now on it's good vibrations. Okay, I'm definitely dreaming this. Brady takes a peak over the rusted metal. 'Is this real?' This is straight out of Wet side story. There are women carried on the shoulders of men, all in bathing suits and bikinis. Laughing with no cares of anything in the world. All out of the sixties.

One guy has sunscreen on his nose, in slow motion a hula hoop spins in real time. Mack points her nose to a brown Cadillac where I cover half of my face, hoping I was dreaming right now. Shock, I am feeling,  soaring over at seeing Tanner filing out of the car.

" Maybe we are dead. We've died and ended up in a musical!"

Mack exclaims, her voice cracking in a high Octave. Not wanting to actually think we're all in an actual movie.

On my way feelin' fine. I can see my reflection in my surf board's shine I can hardly wait to cause a commotion. Come on, everyone jump into the ocean. I must be crazy as I think Giggles makes eye contact, her crystal blue eyes gleaming animatedly as though the real life movie effects are still active.

My eyes just grow more and more big in size, when she does confirmation, doing an amazingly wide grin. Flyin' high just out of reach no ands, ifs, buts we're nuts for the beach.

Continuing to do choreographed dances, laying out beach towels and waving in a structured coordination, I feel the loosening of my jaw dropping.

Surf, surf, surf, surf crazy ride the Perfcet wave say hi to the sky. This is possibly one of the greatest, best dreams I have ever been in. 'I don't want any of this to end.'

Surf, sun, sand it's a bikini wonderland. I was mouthing the lyrics, clapping my hands but with the intention not to be loud as to not bring any attention. Summer's on and we've gone surf surf crazy.

Tanner, shirtless, shows off his row of shining teeth pointing finger guns. To the invisible camera filming, much as he does. SeaCat has a prop radio which plays sounds, no words, moving his head in a bobble.

The radio blasts and here's the plan. we'll soak up the sun and get the ultimate tan. Giggles had a life-guard ring on her hips, it's honestly impressive she could be that nimble to fit in those. We can hardly wait to show our devotion we go again in to the ocean. Now's the time, so here's the speech, no rules at all, have a ball at the beach. The chorus began repeating, its scene of Tanner balancing bubbles on his shoulders. While easily 'dancing' while being in the ocean on a wave.

" Mack. Mor, We're..." Brady says, at first, speechless. " Yes. In .." I say just as in shock.

" the movie." We are Wet side story. " What movie?" Mack questions. I think she already knows. " Mor and I's movie! Wet side story." Her voice is squeaky, like a mouse, talking but all that came out is a stammer. Not in belief we are actually in an actual movie.

" What? How? Why?" The music hasn't subsided. If anything it's giving us a few seconds to really understand where Mack, brady and I are right now. " All viable questions." Brady does an hand motion, not knowing how to give her the answer she was searching for.

" What do we do?" There is nothing else to expect have fun. I widely smile, cheering and vocally whooping at the line up. Brady came around, participating.

Burgers hot water warm a cool seaside bash. Following each woman's lead I do a wave of my hands, ecstatic, and enthusiastically grinning. Catch a wave. Turn it up. Jumping in sync, a bucket of water is pass down from each person. Make a splash. Make a splash. Make a splash! I hand the fire hydrant red bucket to Brady.

Water covers mack who opens her mouth, an O shape in surprise. Crazy! The surfers all say singing, hand jiving. Two characters lift a long bamboo pole, this is the part where the characters make their introduction. One by one. " I'm Tanner."

" SeaCat."

" Giggles!"

" Rascal!"

" Kiki!"

" Brady!"

" and Morgan!" I always wanted to have my own little number like what I just did. Mack stares around, glancing around in a heap of confusion, the back track dying down. " I'm Mack?" She announces, her tone coming out auto-tuned, lacking energy.

Cowabunga attack! Every surfer on the beach raises a board to the sky, constructing a sun flower revolving around in a circle. Next scene tanner, SeaCat, rascal and background actors are using inflated beach balls tossing them in the air out of the screen.

Surf, surf, surf, surf crazy. Ride the Perfcet wave say hi to the sky. Surf, sun, sand. It's a bikini wonderland. Summer's on and we've gone. I have a teal board, twirling on my feet, taking a stand between SeaCat. Bubbles dances with more energy if it was possible.

Hair bouncing each time she erratically moves. Before the song ends, I take my chance given. Dropping the board, I count up each leading second the final lyrics finish, jumping on Tanners back giggling.

he goes with the change, holding me in place handling my calves. He grins, none-the-less continues his role. Surf, Surf, Surf crazy.

And that is scene done. I remove myself off Tanner, he drops on a board doing the loudest thud following as everyone follows his lead.

It's quiet. I run to mack and Brady, still on a rush from doing that number. 'I got to be held by Tanner.' This is all surreal. " This is Ca-razy. Am I right?" Brady uses lingo, doing a wave of his hand. I jump from hearing cheers, screams, as surfers and Tanner leap up in place. 'Big Mommas. It's big Mommas. Oh my goodness.' An it hang-out place, surf n turf restaurant that the Rodents want as just their hangout. But with all the surfers wanting it for themselves.

" this is all too real. And, actually happening."

JASMINE SPEAKS:

second chapter is done. I'm on a roll with these updates. I think because I love teen beach movie so much, Butchy more specifically, it really is motivating me to do these chapters. How are we liking Morgan and how she enjoyed herself in the 'Surf crazy' sequence?? Comment your thoughts.
