I woke up one morning and was making my bed when I noticed a red stain on my bed. I went into the bathroom to check my underwear and my white undies were a freaking Japanese flag.

Did I just get my first period??

I put some toilet paper in my underwear as a temporary pad and left the bathroom. Dad was sitting at the kitchen counter frowning at the PB and J sandwiches he made.

"Dad?"

"Yes, Deanna?" Dad asked as he looked up.

I rocked on my feet awkwardly. "You see, Dad...I...kinda...started...my period..."

"What's a period?"

"It's a girl thing, Dad," I said. "Can you call Aunt Charlie for me? She can help with it."

"Ok."

"And that's how you put a pad on." Charlie said as she finished explaining what pads were and how to put them on.

"Thanks, Charlie," I said. "Now the only problem is how to explain the whole thing to Dad."
