Hello. This part is based on The Death Cure book. For book fans, the key word is:

Thanks for being my friends.

I tried my best in writing this. I hope you will like it.

I remember

I was in the Berg. Everyone had left me in there to go into Denver. I had the flare; I was a crank in progress. I was trying to fall asleep when I heard a metallic knock. I was surprised. I thought Minho, Tommy, Teresa, Jorge, and Brenda had come back... but, wasn't it too early for them? They had gone into the city to get their WICKED chips out by a doctor there and try to find something for me. They had left only a day ago. Could they had done it that quick? My first logic answer was no. Along with that, Jorge had the remote of the Berg, and they could enter whenever they wanted. I stayed in my place and didn't move.

Moments later, I heard the electric opening of the door. Although my first thought was that it was my friends and that I had to go and welcome my shanks, I preferred to linger and stay in my place. I could take no risks. When I listened, my blood froze.

I tried to move quietly to run and hide somewhere, but as I was slowly rising, my hand hit something, making a loud noise.

"Someone is here," a guard called. "Separate and search."

The Flare flared inside, and my instinct for fleeing ignited. Still in shock's daze, I stood up.

"He is there!" someone shouted.

I started running as quickly as possible, but my leg pained like hell, and my bloody limp slowed me down even more.

"Find him and get him here!"

I found the way to the basement. I prayed it would give me some time. I slipped in and closed the door when I felt them closing. I tried to stay quiet.I hid myself in the darkness.I knew that they would eventually find me. I wondered what might happen, and every thought was worse than the one before it. I tried to assemble myself.

"He's in here! Find him now!" I suddenly heard, and that soon was followed by heavy sounds of steps thundering, and swirling torch lightning. A dozen then was present within few seconds. "Surrender yourself. This is Denver's police," a man shouted. They all were dressed in red shirts and tight masks that made them look like insects. The lights of their torches blinded me. I tried to stand up. "What is your name, and what is your business hiding here?" he then shouted. I didn't answer. Keeping my silence was the best I could do.

"The cat ate your tongue?" he then sneered. I held myself from punching him in the face. After that, he whispered something to the woman next to him, and she took out a machine- just like the one Dr. Whitman has in her hand now. The woman abruptly pulled my arms down my face. I tried to resist, to push her away, but I suddenly felt three guards pinning me to the ground.

She directed that machine to my open eyes. I heard sounds and felt a cold tinge that I still feel in my eyes. I knew what that machine was for.

"He is a crank. To the Crank Palace," she then said.

"Chain him up. You will be meeting your new friends soon," the man said.

I knew I had no chance, but I had one thing in mind. I gathered my words. "I need write to my friends. I want a paper and a pen, and then you can take me."

"No time for love litters. Chain him up!"

"Give him what he wants," the woman then answered. She then tightened her lips. "That brain of yours won't be working long. Use it while you can. What do you wanna right?"

I then told her the words I had planned in my head.

"It is for the best. Thanks for being my friends. Good bye."

When done. She folded the paper and placed it on a small box. After that, out of nowhere, all I saw was darkness, and when I opened, I was in the palace.

...

"Newt, you're alright, kid?"

I didn't realize I was frozen the whole time that Dr. Whitman had done her test. "You were too stable, Newt."

I don't answer and turn away. I wish to go out. I don't want to go through this all again. Dr. Whitman gives me  a tight lipped smile with sympathy in its cracks, which I hate. "I know, kid. I know." She rubs my shoulder and tells me, "I know you don't want to do this, but look now."

I don't listen.

"Newt, kid. can you bloody hear me?"

When I turn, I find the screen in my face, showing a word in block letters. My first thought is that it spells CRANK, but when I look, I see it spells

CLEAR
