intro
Van Eun Kyung was a very sociable person. She was quite shy and timid once you first met but after getting to know her, she had an incredible sense of humor and a very kind heart. Eun Kyung was never much of a party person, though, she preferred to stay home and read or watch TV. She found her comfort in the words of authors with minds just like her own. She was average in the looks department but looks didn't concern her much, she thought the personality and behavior was what truly mattered, and that was one of the things that drew many people in. Eun Kyung wasn't one to care about what others thought of her, she was a generally open person except when it came to the one part of herself that she was completely ashamed of.
Ever since she was a toddler, Eun Kyung had been able to see things that others said didn't exist. Spirits, she'd call them, while others said they were just figments of her imagination. At first, her parents weren't concerned in the slightest as they thought having imaginary friends was normal snd healthy, but as Eun Kyung aged, their worries grew increasingly present.
Eun Kyung had no fear of telling her parents about the spirits she'd met and talked to, she was open with them about it, glad to have someone to talk to about it. Until she was thirteen, when her parents put her into therapy.
"She must have schizophrenia or something, I don't know," Eun Kyung overheard her mother say. She heard the sound of her father sighing deeply and tears built up in Eun Kyung's eyes. Her parents, who had never expressed an ounce of worry to her on the matter, had concluded that she was crazy. The young girl became incredibly self conscious about the situation and cut her parents off entirely. She didn't even talk to them about her school life anymore, and she refused to talk to her therapist either.
"Eun Kyung, honey, we're spending a lot of money to get you this help, please don't waste it," Her mother had cooed to her one day after another useless session of therapy. Eun Kyung had given her therapist the silent treatment for the entire hour and a half session, and her parents were becoming exasperated with her attitude.
"That's enough, Eun Kyung, we're just worried about you, now acknowledge that your mother is talking to you!" Her father had bellowed. To this day, Eun Kyung was actively taking therapy sessions against her will, even as she had grown up and moved out on her own. She felt as if her entire world would shatter if anyone ever found out about her therapy or the fact that she was a clincally diagnosed schizophrenic.
Eun Kyung's new home was lovely. Her parents had paid for it in full, so that she wouldn't move away to live in Gwangju. The conditions were that she could live in the big, beautiful home all by herself as long as she attended university in Seoul and stayed in therapy. Eun Kyung couldn't refuse the rent free housing, so she hesitantly agreed to her parents conditions and immediately moved in. It was one floor, with two bedrooms, a large kitchen, a living room, two bathrooms and an attic. There was a flower garden in the backyard, but the flowers that were planted there were all dead and colorless. Eun Kyung had decided that she would fix the garden up at some point.
"Unnie, where do you want this box at?" One of Eun Kyung's cousins asked politely. The younger girl had beautiful golden brown hair and sparkling brown eyes. Her cheeks were naturally rosy and she looked very similar to Eun Kyung despite only being cousins. Eun Kyung smiled at the girl and told her she could set the box in the living room. The girl nodded and ran off with the box happily. Eun Kyung's parents were busy working so they couldn't help their daughter with her moving. They did, however, call in some backup for Eun Kyung. Her aunt, uncle and two cousins were sweetly helping Eun Kyung move all of her belongings into her new home. She was happy to spend some time with them, and to get some help. Even though she didn't own very much, it still would have been incredibly tiresome for her to move everything by herself.
When the last box was placed gently down on the hardwood floor of Eun Kyung's new living room, she turned to her family members with a smile.
"Thank you guys so much for helping me," she said gratefully. Eun Kyung's uncle hugged her tightly. She hadn't noticed before but tears had formed in the older man's eyes.
"I can't believe you're so grown already," he said, sadly. Eun Kyung had been born when he was sixteen years old and he was a frequent babysitter when she was young. Eun Kyung smiled into the hug and patted her uncle's back.
"I'm still your little girl," she reassured the sniffling male. He grinned and pulled away from his niece.
"Damn right you are," he said playfully. The two of them laughed together as his youngest daughter gaped at the bad language.
"I hate to rush off but I have work in an hour, honey," Eun Kyung's aunt reminded her husband. He nodded and ruffled Eun Kyung's hair.
"You call me if you need anything, okay?" He asked. Eun Kyung nodded and hugged all of her family members affectionately before seeing them on their way. It was refreshing for her to have such sentimental moments with her family, to know for sure that she was loved. The girl wiped her brow and turned to the small horde of boxes awaiting her. It was time to get to work.
By seven that night, the only thing Eun Kyung had left to do was make dinner. She was exhausted though, so she instead decided to order take out. She sat her phone on her kitchen island after she had finished ordering and looked around the newly decorated room. Because Eun Kyung was always a very organized and neat person, her entire home had a color scheme and she admired it immensely. The kitchen was painted Robin's egg blue with white trim, something she had requested from her parents to have done. She had placed a matching white curtains over the windows in the kitchen. She wanted to decorate more but she hadn't had the time to go out and buy all the necessary decorations.
Suddenly, Eun Kyung's phone dinged loudly, signalling she had received a text message. The girl picked her phone up off the island and unlocked it to check her notification bar.
Cousin Kookie:
Hey! Why didn't you ask me for help?
Eun Kyung:
Hey, Kookie. Dad was the one who arranged for my uncle, his wife and my other cousins to help.
Cousin Kookie:
But I'm your cousin, too :((
Eun Kyung:
Yes, Kook, I know. If you want to, you can come help me pick out decorations for the house tomorrow?
Cousin Kookie:
Bitch, I'll be there. Is 12 okay so we can get lunch, too?
Eun Kyung:
You just want me to buy you lunch
Cousin Kookie:
🤪👀
Eun Kyung:
You're so fake 😭😂
Cousin Kookie:
I love you, kitty! 🐱
Eun Kyung:
I love you too, bunny. 🐰
Eun Kyung giggled at the playful conversation. Jungkook was her cousin on her mother's side, and he was the only member from her side that Eun Kyung was close with. Jungkook was older than Eun Kyung by two years, making Eun Kyung twenty years old. Jungkook was turning twenty-two that year. They had originally hated each other's guts after toddler Eun Kyung had accidentally broken one of Jungkook's favorite action figures, but as they got older, their bond became tighter and they eventually became best friends. Jungkook had introduced Eun Kyung to his friends Taehyung and Jimin, and now the four of them were all extremely close. Eun Kyung heard a knocking sound and assumed that it was her food arriving. She sat her phone down on the island, leaving it unlocked since she would be just right back. She quickly skipped to the door and pulled it open. She was puzzled to find no one at the door. She stepped out and looked around quizzically.
"What?" She asked aloud. She heard the knocking sound again and this time it was coming from the kitchen she had just left. She rolled her eyes, beginning to understand what was going on. There was a spirit in the house. Eun Kyung shut the door and walked slowly back to the kitchen, but she didn't see anything. She tilted her head in confusion. She had expected to come face to face with some kind of spirit, but the kitchen was empty. She strained her ears as she tried to listen for anymore knocking but it was completely silent. Eun Kyung shrugged and picked up her phone to go surf the internet, but she found her notepad opened with a note left on it.
Don't come into the attic.
