2. The Brothers
The door of room number 7 opened. Kara moved her nose away from the smell of dirty socks. She took a deep breath despite feeling sick to her stomach. So much of taking care of things. thought Kara, sarcastically. She turned around to lock the motel door. Kara took a deep breath, trying to get used the smell.
It reminded her of the last visit in Piper's apartment. It was a time where Kara was the one to pick up her little sister's filthy clothes, lying around on the carpet. Kara deeply sighed while putting her duffle bag on top of the green bed sheets.
She remembered how she could never tell Piper of what happened between her and that ex-boyfriend. All of those lies twisted Kara's heart everytime she fibbed. She could not believe how Piper easily believed her. That oblivious girl never went deeper into the topic.
Kara felt something wet dipping from her eyes.
"Well, take care, Kara. Hope to see you soon." Those were last words Kara heard from Piper after her stay. No, move on, Kara! Move on! thought the woman in the black hoodie persistently. She took her black nightgown and changed into it.
Then, Kara grasped her fingers around a small bottle of pepper spray. A sense of small relief washed over her like the pouring rain outside. Lying on the cool bed, Kara curled herself into a ball on the edge. Her hand still grasped on that pepper spray. The lamp was shinning harshly into Kara's eyes.
Despite the harshness of the light bulb, Kara's eyes drifted into a deep slumber. A colorful dream appeared in her troubled mind.
The man in a dark suit opened his door. He saw another young man in a dark suit on his bed, typing away on his laptop. Not once did the other man look up, he was just...focused. Focused on the laptop.
All of the sudden, everything changed from color to black and white. The men in suits were gone. Kara found herself in a dark alley, running! Running for her life!
Tripped over a garbage can, she fell onto the dark street. Loud footsteps were coming closer. Kara faced whatever was coming to her.
Running toward her, a shadowy man angrily raised his dagger above his head.
"Aaaaaaaaaggggghhhhhh!"
Kara sat up in her bed with cold sweat. The echo of her scream faded into her ears. Her fingers slipped as the pepper spray fell onto the carpet. She felt eyes were staring at her. Her heart was frozen still.
Slowly, Kara turned her head to see that the light was flickering. At the side of her bed a woman dressed in a dirty gray dress stood there. Dark bruises were all over her pale white complexion. Tears were dripping from her distant eyes. Out of of her dried lips, she whispered, "Don't let it happen!"
All of the sudden, the badly bruised blond flickered away like candlelight. She vanished without a trace. The lightbulb went out, leaving Kara in the dark. In the dead silence, she could only hear her, hyperventilating.Kara jumped up in her bed.
There was a loud pounding on her door. It beat with her frightened heart!
Kara flung her sheets off and grabbed her duffle bag. Before she could move another inch, the door was busted down. Her vision was whirling and swirling. Kara's shaky legs couldn't hold her anymore. The last thing she saw was a dark shadow, hovering over her.
"It was heat of the moment
Telling me what your heart meant
Heat of the moment shone in your eyes"
The screaming lyrics woke Kara up. She heard a harsh gruff whisper.
"Turn it off!"
Right away, the music died into silence. Kara rubbed her eyes from dreary sleepiness. The same voice whispered, again.
"She's awake."
Blinking a couple times, Kara carefully raised up into a sitting position. Irritating pain pounded in her head.
"Urgh, my head." She groaned, while rubbing her messed-up curls. "It hurts."
At tip of her fingertips, Kara felt something sticky and slippery. She looked at the crimson blood on her fingers. Looking at the scarlet red took her back to memory lane. It was deja vu all over again. A large hand laid on her shoulder. Kara felt her shoulders tense up all of the the sudden.
"Hey, take it easy."
The headache no longer hurt her head. Kara jumped away from the hand. She looked up to see a very tall man. His brown eyes were filled with concern. But, he was just a stranger. How could he be worried for her?
"Who are you? What did you do to me?" asked Kara. Her voice was cracked with fear.
"I'm Sam and that's my brother, Dean."
He pointed at a man in a dark suit. Kara's eyes widened when she saw him at the other edge of the bed.
"You!" Exclaimed Kara.
His green eyes blinked at her.
"You!" Exclaimed Dean.
A confused Sam glanced at the two of them.
"Wait, you know each other?"
An awkard silence was in the musty air of the room. Kara nodded.
"He gave me a ride here. Again, thank you." said she to Dean.
"No problem." replied the man in the dark suit. Scarlet blood was dripping down from the thin cut on her forehead.
"What the hell happened to you?" asked Dean while walking closer to Kara.
"I don't know." answered Kara, confused."I must have got hit by something."
"Um, you didn't get hit...I am sorry, what is your name?" said Sam.
Kara bit her lips before she could reply.
"Kara. The name's Kara."
