Utterly Normal

As long as you had known Sam, you dreamed of him, and of the life the two of you could never have together. Everything from the white picket fence, to the boring desk job before you would come home to his dazzling smile. Never once did you tell him, knowing he would give you that soft smile of his, saying something to take away the awkwardness of the moment. So, you kept the wonderful dreams to yourself, knowing they would be the only way you would ever experience a somewhat normal life.

With each hunt draining you, almost killing you once or twice, the dreams sometimes disappeared for days or weeks at a time. Often leaving you lonely, and wanting that comfort they provided. So, when you woke up one morning, with Sam's arm wrapped tight around you, your bare chest pressed to his, you didn't think anything of it at first. Glad to have your favorite dreams back, you cuddled as deep as you could, not wanting the dream to end. "Y/N, we need to get up." Sam chuckled against your hair. "I need to go to work."

"No." You mumbled against his chest, pressing a light kiss to his chest. "Can't you call in, and we spend the day together?"

"Y/N, what's gotten into you?" He asked, tilting your head back so you could gaze into those wonderful hazel eyes. "You've never asked me to skip work."

"I just want to spend the day with you." You hedged, wondering how this dream felt so real. His skin was warm and soft against yours. The blankets were wrapped tight around your legs, the room chilling, creating goosebumps on your skin.

"Okay." He conceded. "I didn't really have much planned today anyways. What do you want to do?"

"Just spend the day together. I don't care how." You answered, standing up and stretching your back. A heaviness sat at your belly, your skin stretched taut, and it was then you felt the tiniest movement deep within you. Glancing down, you were surprised to see your belly swollen, far along in your pregnancy. "I'm pregnant." You whispered, as Sam stood up and wrapped his arms around you.

"Are you sure you're okay?" He asked, concern lacing his words.

"I'm wonderful." You answered, as an ugly gray room flashed in your vision. It was dirty and dark, with other people hanging by their arms. As fast as it appeared, it left, leaving you standing there in Sam's arms. "Absolutely wonderful."

Sam left to call in to work, leaving you alone in your bedroom. Wondering how this dream could be so real. Not caring because it was exactly what you needed after such a horrid hunt. You needed this. The contact and love with Sam. The normalcy of a regular life. A life forming inside you. The thought had a huge smile spreading on your face, as your hand rested on your swollen belly. It was perfect, almost too perfect, but you wouldn't have it any other way.

Changing into the only clothes that seemed to fit you, you waddled your way down the stairs, stopping to admire the pictures of you and Sam as you went. Coming to the last one, your foot almost slipped when you heard your name being called, sounding much like a distressed Sam. "Sam?" You called out, as your entire being shifted.

"Y/N!" Sam exclaimed, his hazel eyes full of worry as he cupped your cheeks. "You're alive!"

"Of course I'm alive." You muttered, amazing at how tired and cold you were feeling. It was such a different feeling than even one minute ago. Where you had felt nothing but love and contentment, you now felt cold and heavy. As if your life was slowly draining away. "I'm alive, and pregnant. I'm with you Sam." You muttered, your eyelids closing.

"Y/N, hang on!" Sam yelled, as you felt yourself pulling away once again.

"Y/N!" Sam yelled, your eyes opening just as your foot slipped off the last step. Reaching you in time, he caught you, holding you tight to his chest. "What is going on?"

"I just felt..." You stuttered, not sure how you could even start to explain what was going on.

"I think we're going to spend the day relaxing. Maybe cuddling on the couch, watching movies. That way I can keep my eye on you." He ordered, guiding you over to the couch. Once you were settled down, he placed a blanket over your lap. "Now stay here, and I'll bring you breakfast."

With Sam spoiling you, you began surfing Netflix, looking for some sort of movie to watch. As time continued to move on, you began to forget that this was a dream. That there was a real life out there. This was your real life. Sitting here, with Sam's arm around you, your child growing inside you, you were where you wanted to be. Nothing else existed.

"How about another movie?" Sam asked you about four hours into your movie marathon. Yawning, you nodded, as he stood up to make his way into the kitchen. "And soup?"

Without his warm body next to yours, you cuddled deeper into the blanket, your eyes closing on their own accord. Letting yourself slip into sleep, you immediately tensed up when you gazed upon the creepy concrete wall once again. The people across from you were gone, nothing left of them. "Y/N!" Sam mumbled, his words slow and hazy. "Please sweetheart, you have to fight this."

An intense feeling of tiredness, dizzy and bone wearing ripped through your body, and it took everything in your power to turn your head. Your eyes widened when you saw Sam next to you, hanging much as the people had been across from you. "What is going on?"

"We're being held by a Djinn." He started explaining. "I need you to stay awake. Each time you're in your dream, you become that much closer to death. And I can't lose you."

"But it's so nice." You whispered, every fiber in your being wanting to head back to that wonderful place. Where you were happy.

"I know. But it's not real." He answered you, guilty for causing you pain. "I need you to hang on. Stay with me."

"But you don't love me here." You whispered, your words slipping out easily. "I want to go back to where you love me."

"I do love you." He insisted. "I love you, and I will do everything so we can have that life together. But you have to help me."

Hearing him say those words woke you up a little bit more, and you began struggling against your restraints. "Sam, what are we going to do?"

"Dean will find us. But for now, we just need to hold on." Sam assured you, just as you noticed movement in the far corner of the room. Moving closer to you was a man, his skin covered in blue tattoos, his eyes eerie in the light.

"Sleep." He whispered, his hand moving to your forehead. "Dream my love. It will all be over soon."

Struggling against the restraint, you couldn't pull away as his hands touched your forehead. You could hear Sam struggling in the background. As you felt your eyelids grow heavy once again, you turned to stare at Sam, wondering if this was the last time you would see this version of him. Struggling against his restraints, his hand met yours, the touch brief, but calming.

"Y/N, I promise!" He yelled. "I promise, I won't let go! I won't stop fighting until we can be together again. Just hold on!"

Those words were the last you heard before you slipped under, a tear slipping down your cheek. "Y/N, sweetheart, are you hungry?" Sam's gentle voice asked you. Struggling to wake up, you stared at the screen in front of you, your unborn child kicking, making you jump in shock.

"I just had the weirdest dream." You whispered as Sam sat down next to you. "That you and I were being held by this weird monster."

"It was just a dream. This, this is real. I love you, and we have a wonderful, normal life together. You can't ask for anything more than that." He answered, turning the movie back on. Cuddling deep into his embrace, you couldn't stop the frown on your face. Because while this felt completely real, so did the other dream. Making you wonder exactly which one was real. Or if you were imagining things.
