Chapter 18

KAT'S POV

Back at school, the student news plays on a TV in the hall, as I walk around silently, trying to reach my locker to get my backpack and leave here. Too many times people had crowded around me, asking about the elevator scene. I haven't seen Peter or Ned anywhere, which was troubling, however, Harry, Gwen, and MJ were a great help.

"This past weekend, Midtown's Academic Decathlon team defeated the country's best to win the national championship. Later that day, they also defeated death." Jason says.

"Explosion. Sally scream. Flash scream. Everybody screamin', well, except for Kat. But she's fought murder robots before." Abe says.

Charles excitedly jumps up and down. "There were purple lasers and smoke everywhere, It was..." A cat emoji appears over Charles' mouth and a beep is inserted as he swears. "Just like a Bon Jovi concert."

"As you know, we made it out alive, and that's the important thing. I couldn't bear to lose a student on a school trip. Not again." The camera zooms in on Mr. Harrington's face. Not again? That doesn't sound reassuring. "A huge thanks to Spiderman and Kat, because without them, not all of us would be standing here." The camera pans in on me sitting on the curb, alone. "Her guardians must be very proud."

"Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, thanks to the Spider-Man, and our very own Kat Maximoff," Betty informs.

"Thank you, Spider-Man." Betty and Jason say awkwardly. "Thank you Kat."

"Up next: The Spider-Man mania is sweeping the school. How can you show your spider spirit?" Jason asks, and I tune the voices out. I walk silently and as I reach my locker, and set my books inside. I grab my backpack, and close my locker, as MJ, Gwen, and Harry steps around me.

"Hey guys." I turn and wave.

"Kat, we're going to the lake to swim, you coming?" Harry asks. I think for a second, before shaking my head.

"Sorry guys, no can do." They sigh. "Maybe next time." They leave my locker, and pick up Ned from his locker, as I stare at a text from Tony.

TonyStark: Happy can't pick you up today, better get home by urslef, also get ready 4 a talk about ur powers from Ross.

KitKatMaximoff: Eh, alright. Ross doesn't scare me.

TonyStark: Bye kid.

KitKatMaximoff: Yeah. Bye.

I didn't have much patience for Tony, and as I sat outside of the curb, not wanting to use my powers today. Soon Peter comes out, yet detention wasn't over yet.

"Why are you out of here?" I ask, and Peter shrugs.

"I figured we'd better go and find the Vulture guy." Peter says.

"Let's go then. I don't want Ross on my tail." I jump up, and we ride the train over to Peter's house. As we arrive, Peter peeks in the front door, I behind him.

"May?" Peter asks. Peter checks the living room, which looks empty. We walk inside Peter's bedroom.

"Hey can you leave? I need to change?" Peter asks. I nod quickly, not wanting to intrude, and sat out on the couch, before I decided I could use a trip to the bathroom. I knock on his door.

"Hey Peter, can I use the bathroom?" I ask.

"Oh, yeah, it's next to my room on the left." He replies.

"Thanks." I walk in the direction Peter sent me, and I splash my face with water, while staring at my reflection in the mirror. I wipe my face clean, and walk in his room. Peter is wearing normal clothes over his suit and lounging in his chair, spinning around, slightly red in the face. Probably embarrassment.

"Karen's found the guy from the weapons deal I saw or something like that. Better suit up." Peter says, jumping up immediately.

"Alright then. Wait one second. I wanna try out the new suit Tony gave me." I say, bringing out a simple silver bracelet, with red and blue accents, for Wanda and Pietro.

"Mr. Stark made you a new suit?" Peter asks, a bit jealous.

"I've ripped a part during the airport battle, and Tony's tired of fixing it over and over again. It's nanotech, which means more availability." I inform, and hit the M button in between the red and blue. Could be for Mystic, could be for Maximoff. I don't care. Peter nod, and we climb out of his apartment building, and take off. I almost lost my backpack multiple times, if it weren't for Peter's fast reflexes. Finally, we reach a small parking building, a scruffy man apparently from the weapons deal, Aaron Davis, carries groceries to his car. The spider drone follows him.

"Karen, activate Interogation Mode." Peter mumbles, and suddenly, his voice gets deeper. Creepy. "Stay here, and try to collect as much information from him as possible." He commands and I nod. As Aaron opens the trunk, Peter sticks Aaron's hand to the trunk with a web. Annoyed, Aaron stares at the spider drone.

"Remember me?" Peter speaks. He approaches Aaron's car, and Aaron seems taken aback. I was too buddy.

"Uh, hey.." A-A-Ron starts. Huh, pardon me, are you Aaron Burr, sir? I start humming lyrics from Hamilton.

"I need information. You're gonna give it to me now." Peter growls.

"All right, chill." Aaron says.

Peter puts his hands on the trunk. "Come on!"

"What happened to your voice?" Aaron asks. Ooh, you have peaked my interest lucky guy.

"What do you mean, what happened to my voice?" Peter asks, slightly taken aback.

"I heard you by the bridge. I know what a girl sounds like." Aaron says, in a matter of fact tone. I snicker quietly. Peter does sound like a girl sometimes.

"I'm not a girl! I'm a boy. I mean, I'm a... I'm a man." Peter denies, and I sigh.

"He's a boy." I say, and step out into the light. Peter narrows his eyes at me.

"Ka-Mystic, I told you to stay back!" He says.

"You know, everyone knows she's Katriana Maximoff right?" Aaron asks.

"Shut up A-A-Ron." I snap. "I was just clearing stuff up. Now I get to hang here." Peter sighs.

"Also, I don't care what you are, a boy, a girl..." Aaron turns to Peter.

"I'm not a girl! I'm a man. Come on, man. Look, who is selling these weapons? I need to know. Give me names or else." Peter begs. I shake my had slightly. I probably should've done this. Maybe I'd be slightly better, but I'd still botch it too. Aaron slams the trunk shut, and Peter startles. He steps back and looks around in surprise. The spider drone chirps and flies around Peter's head.

"You ain't ever done this before, huh?" Aaron sighs.

Peter sighs. "Deactivate interrogation mode." The spider drone goes back in the emblem on the suit's chest as Peter's voice changes back to its high-pitched tone. Aaron laughs, although not psychotically. "Look, man, these guys are selling weapons that are crazy dangerous. They can't just be out on the streets. Look, if one of them can just cut Delmar's bodega in half..."

Aaron is looking at his fingers, sniffing, not amused. However, when Peter mentions Delmar's, he gains interest.

"You know Delmar's?" Aaron asks.

"Yeah, best sandwich in Queens." Peter says.

"Sub Haven's pretty good." Aaron retorts.

"It's too much bread." Peter replies.

"I like bread." Aaron answers.

"Come on, man, please." Peter starts to walk away. "Stupid interrogation mode. Karen, don't ever do that again."

"The other night, you told that dude, if you shoot somebody, shoot me. It's pretty ballsy. I don't want those weapons in this neighborhood. I got a nephew who live here." Aaron reveals. I quickly check him, and find no trace of lies. Great. I give a nod to Peter, and he walks back to him.

"Who are these guys? What can you tell me about the guy with the wings?" Peter asks.

"Other than he's a psychopath dressed like a demon, nothing. I don't know who he is or where he is." Aaron explains. Peter leans his head on Aaron's car, and gives out a sigh.

"I do know where he's gonna be." Aaron adds.

"Really?" Peter perks up.

"Yeah, this crazy dude I used to work with, he's supposed to be doing a deal with him." Aaron starts.

"Yes! Yes. Thank-" Peter starts to walk happily away, laughing. Idiot. Haven't given him a location.

"Yo, Spiderman, he hadn't given you a location yet!" I yell.

Peter quickly turns back. "Right, of course. Yeah, my bad. Silly. Just..." Embarrassed, Peter comes closer and leans on the car. "Yeah. Where is it?"

"Can I give you some advice?" Aaron asks.

"Hmm?" Peter cocks his head to one side.

"You got to get better at this part of the job." Aaron sighs.

"I don't understand. I'm intimidating." Peter demonstrates his intimidating pose, crossing his arms.

"Yeah, intimidating to a gecko." I snort.

"Staten Island ferry, eleven." Aaron says, and I start walking away.

"Oh, that's soon. Hey, that's gonna dissolve in two hours." Peter yells, following after me.

"Thanks Aaron! Say hi to Miles for me!" I yell.

"No, no, no, no. Come fix this." Aaron yells back, not disturbed over the fact I know his nephew's name. Damnit! It usually works.

"Two hours. You deserve that." Peter walks away, stabbing a finger in Aaron's direction.

"I got ice cream in here." Aaron bribes.

"You deserve that. You're a criminal. Bye, Mr. Criminal." Peter waves. We leave the parking lot, snickering.

"You handled that well." I say, as we fly over to the Staten Island Ferry.

"Haha. Alright, uh, since Ross prohbits you from using your powers that much, which absolutely sucks by the way, maybe you can go on in civilian uniform, and look from there?" Peter lays out the plan, a mere distance from the sign in area.

"Alright. Game on." I smile, and tap the M again, and the nanotech suit disappears.

"You have a headpiece right now right?" Peter asks. I tap my earpiece, which I made to not disappear, if that's a thing. "Alright. Let's do this."

I walk out, as Peter swings into trees to avoid being spotted. This is gonna end well. I think.
