Chapter 10

Katriana's POV

German Airport, Germany

"They're not stopping," Peter says.

"Neither are we." Everyone breaks into a sprint. We start fighting each other, family against family. I blast Barnes into T'Challa's way, then help Nat up.

"Alright, they're pissing me off." I hiss. The same dude who turned small turned into a huge dude.

"Holy shit!" Peter yells.

"Okay, tiny dude is big now. He's big now." Rhodey mutters, and Big-Man picks him up in his grasp.

"Give me back my Rhodey." Tony snarls.

"I got him!" Peter yells as Big-Man sends Rhodey flying and Peter catches him with a web.

"Okay, anybody on our side hiding any shocking and fantastic abilities they'd like to disclose, I'm open to suggestions," Tony asks.

"Yeah. Play time's over." My eyes turned slightly silver, and I began to hurl trucks, cars, basically anything that wasn't held down.

"Oh, so you were playing." Tony rolls his eyes.

"Shut up, I'm trying to concentrate." I quickly use a power I was hesitant to use, the power-taking one. I suck up most of Team Cap's special abilities before Clint knocks me over, and I snap out of it.

"Thanks a lot, Barton." I snarl, getting into a fighting stance.

"My pleasure." We start fighting until I see Rhodey getting annihilated by cars.

"As much fun as this has been, I gotta go." I pant, blasting him away.

"You got any other power moves up your sleeve?" Tony asks.

"No. Unless I want to pass out." I gasp, making the cars fly away. I stare at Wanda, before running off. Vision fires a shining beam of energy from his mind stone and the control tower collapses towards the entrance of the hangar, where Steve and Barnes are currently running toward. Wanda struggles to slow its collapse, but then Rhodey descends behind her fires a sonic disruptor. Wanda holds her head and screams. The tower falls.

"Don't hurt my sister!" I yell, before slightly pushing away Rhodey, to stop the sonic disruptor.

"Woah, same team here." Rhodey consoles.

"Don't hurt my sister again." I snarl, casting a glance at Wanda before leaving.

"Hey, guys, you ever see that really old movie, Empire Strikes Back?" Peter asks.

"Jesus, Tony, how old is this guy?" Rhodey asks.

"I don't know, I didn't carbon date him. He's on the young side." Tony snaps, keeping Peter's identity safe.

Peter swings towards Big-Man. "You know that part . . . where they're on the snow planet . . . with the walking thingies?" He wraps webs around Big-Mans legs.

"Maybe the kid's on to something," Tony says.

"High now, Tony. Go high." Rhodey yells, and they push down Big-Man, but as he falls, Peter's knocked over some boxes.

The Quinjet flies out of a hangar, and Rhodey starts giving chase, Sam right behind him.

"Vision, I got a bandit on my six," Rhodey commands, and Sam fires small explosives that erupt and buffet War Machine. "Vision! You copy? Target his thrusters, turn him into a glider." I start running into the field, where I was prepared to make sure Sam had a safe landing, fighting or not, they're still my family. Vision fires his head laser. Sam spots it coming and tucks into a tumble. The laser overshoots and slices through the core on Rhodey's chest plate. He loses power and goes into a spinning free fall.

"No!" I gasp, running toward Rhodey.

"Rhodey!" Tony and Sam dive down, equally concerned for Rhodey.

"Tony, I'm flying dead stick." As he plunges the suit emits black smoke. Tony swoops down towards him.

"RHODES!" Rhodey smacks into a wide, grassy field just before Tony lands nearby. His helmet retracts. "Read vitals."

"Heartbeat detected. Emergency medical is on its way." Friday informs, and I sigh in relief.

Sam swoops down and lands on his feet. His wings retract. "I'm sorry." Tony zaps Sam backward with a blast of energy from the palm of his suit. Vision glides to the ground just in front of Falcon. Stony faced Tony remains with his arms around War Machine.

"Sam!" I kneel down next to him and help him stand up. "Are you okay?" He sits up, before falling down.

"Yeah, it's just a tazer, I'll live." I look at him worriedly, then at Tony. "Go help Rhodey." He commands, and I start to go, before turning back.

"I'm sorry. Take care of yourself, Wanda, and Steve, please." I smile, before running to Rhodey.

"I will." Sam lies down again. I don't bother to turn back, because the authorities have arrived, and they're probably taking him away. I don't want to see that.

"Is he okay?" I ask, looking at Tony. Medical help arrives, and they lift Rhodey's body in the ambulance. Tony doesn't respond but nods curtly.

We are at a hospital, where Rhodey lies inside a CT-scanner. He's in a blue gown covering his body. Tony paces up to Vision who watches Rhodey.

"How did this happen?" He growls.

"I became distracted." Vision says.

"I didn't think that was possible." He snaps.

"Neither did I." Vision sighs, and Tony leaves Vision looking in on Rhodey

"I know you're going after Wanda." I start.

"And I am." Vision looks at me. "Why do you care?"

"Because she's my sister. I already told Sam to protect her, but Sam can't always be with her. So, if you both are on your own." I say, not bothering to wipe away tears. "Protect her. Please."

"Usually it's the older sibling who protects the younger one, am I correct?" Vision asks.

"Yeah, but Wanda's probably going to be on the run... so yeah." I walk away.

PeterPetekr: Hey, you okay?

PeterPetker: Are you mad at me?

PeterPetker: Please answer.

PeterPetkar: I'm going back to America right now, what about you?

PeterPetkar: Hello?

KitKatMaximoff: Sorry I didn't reply. Still in Germany, Rhodey's looking pretty bad right now.

PeterPetkar: Oh, I'm sorry.

KitKatMaximoff: Don't be. I'll see you at school?

PeterPetker: Yeah, see you then. Take care okay?

KitKatMaximoff: Definitely :D

Later, we arrive at Avengers HQ, and I and Tony is with Rhodey as he tentatively walks beside parallel bars with tech on his legs.

" It's just the first pass," Tony says, helping Rhodey as I stare worriedly, doing my homework.

"Yeah."Rhodey pants.

"Give me some feedback. Anything you can think of. Shock absorption. Lateral movement. Cup holder?" Tony asks, trying to lift the mood.

"You may wanna think about some AC down in . . ." Rhodey falls onto his hands. I stand, walking over.

"Let's go. I'll give you a hand." Tony offers.

"No, no, don't. Don't help me. Don't help me." Rhodey rises to his hands and knees, turns to sit on the floor beside Tony. I sit down too, waiting for the story. "138. 138 combat missions. That's how many I've flown, Tony. Every one of them could've been my last, but I flew 'em. Because the fight needed to be fought. It's the same with these Accords. I signed because it was the right thing to do. And, yeah, this sucks. This is . . . this is a bad beat. But it hasn't changed my mind. I don't think." He gives a crooked smile and takes Tony's hand.

"You okay?" I ask.

"Oh yeah." Rhodey smiles at me.

A FedEx driver knocks on the window with a packet in his hand. "Are you Tony Stank?"

"Yes, this is-this is Tony 'Stank'. You're in the right place. Thank you for that! I'm never dropping that, by the way. Table for one, Mr. 'Stank'. Please, by the bathroom." Rhodey snickers, as I laugh loudly at his joke. Rhodey walks away, chortling to himself, as I stand next to Tony. He opens the package and finds an envelope and a phone inside.

"Tony, I'm glad you're back at the compound. I don't like the idea of you rattling around a mansion by yourself. We all need family. The Avengers are yours, maybe more so than mine. I've been on my own since I was 18. I never really fit in anywhere, even in the army. My faith's in people, I guess. Individuals. And I'm happy to say that, for the most part, they haven't let me down. Which is why I can't let them down either. Locks can be replaced, but maybe they shouldn't. I know I hurt you, Tony. I guess I thought by not telling you about your parents I was sparing you, but I can see now that I was really sparing myself, and I'm sorry. Hopefully one day you can understand. I wish we agreed on the Accords, I really do. I know you're doing what you believe in, and that's all any of us can do. That's all any of us should . . ." Tony reads it out loud.

"Priority call from Secretary Ross. There's been a breach at the Raft prison." Friday informs.

"Yeah, put him through." Tony sighs.

"Tony, we have a problem." Ross starts.

"Ah, please hold." Tony snarks.

"No. Don't . . ." Ross snaps, but the call is turned off.

"Son of a bitch." I mutter. "At least they've broken out."

"Steve doesn't like that kind of language" Tony snarks, and we laugh, thinking of the good times, although Nat left us too.

"So, no matter what. I promise you, if you need us, if you need me, I'll be there."

Seem's like I have a talent for skipping a lot of movies.
