Working at Blockbuster definitely had its perks. For one thing, you basically got paid to stand around and do nothing since there was barely any business. Yes, there were the few that came by for a movie sometimes, but generally people just streamed their movies online. For the most part, the job was a cake walk.

So the day when someone who wasn't over thirty walked into the store, you were more than surprised. "Uh...hi, are you lost?" You asked. The guy looked to be around your age, with dirty blonde hair and bright blue eyes.

"This is Blockbuster, correct?" He looked to you.

"Yeah," you nodded. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

This was all too weird. He was nothing like your usual customers. "Yes please. My family sent me here to pick a movie to watch tonight and I don't really know a lot about movies. My..." he thought for a moment, "...my uncle. Yes, my uncle said not to pick anything 'lame'."

He put the last word in air quotes. You couldn't help but laugh. This guy was kind of strange but in a cute way. "I think I can help you with that," you smiled as you walked out from the cashier. "Any specific genre you're looking for."

The guy shook his head. "He said pick a classic."

"Okay, we've got a few classics," you led him down the isles, picking up three different movies before stopping back at the counter. "Okay so here are three movies I think are pretty good. If you're looking to laugh, 'Trading Places' is hilarious. Action movie? 'Lethal Weapon' is the way to go. And if you prefer horror, 'The Exorcist" will definitely keep you from sleeping."

"I'll take all of them," he flashed a sweet smile.

You raised your brows. "Really?"

He nodded. "Wow okay I'll ring those up for you," you grinned excitedly, walking back behind the counter to scan the movies.

"Do you have your blockbuster card?" You asked.

"Um," he rummagged around through his pocket and took out the card to hand it you, "Here you go."

"Thanks," you smiled, looking at the name on the card, "Dean."

"Oh that's my... my uncle," he said. It sounded a bit suspicious, but you shrugged it off. "My name's Jack, by the way."

"Nice to meet you Jack, I'm (Y/N)."

~Three Days later~

After that encounter, the same guy came back a couple days later to return the movies. "Hey again," you smiled, "How were the movies?"

"They were great!" Jack grinned, handing you back the movies. "I was wondering if you could recommend some more classic movies."

"Sure, of course," you told him as you went to search. "The 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy is amazing. But I'm not sure if you're the type to want to sit through hours of a movie."

"I'm sure if you think it's amazing, then it's worth the time," he smiled.

~A Month Later~

You thought after a while, Jack would get tired of the movies and stop coming. Yet to your surprise, he only came more often. You recommended movie after movie and even spent some time talking about what he thought of them. It got to a point where you were beginning to get a little suspicious.

"So what did you think of 'The Room'?" You asked him. A few days before that, you purposely recommended he rent out a movie you thought was terrible, just to see if maybe he was lying about liking all those movies you recommended.

"I thought it was good," he smiled, "You always recommend good movies, (Y/N)."

"Okay now I know you're lying," you scoffed. "I chose a bad movie on purpose. What kind of game are you playing?"

"What?" He looked puzzled.

"This isn't funny. We rarely get any customers and then you show up, renting whatever I recommend just to make me feel better or something? I don't get it."

"I would never do anything to anger you, I swear," he assured. "I... I like you."

"You what?" You were sure that you heard wrong.

"I like you," he repeated, "I don't get to go outside much and this was my only excuse to spend time with you. And I really like the movies you recommend, except for maybe that last one. But I was only trying to impress you."

"You don't have to impress me to make me like you back," you smiled nervously, feeling a flash of warmth radiate from your cheeks. "I like spending time with you too."

Jack smiled in return, relieved. Something still bothered you however. "But what you said earlier... why can't you go outside?" You asked.

"I um..." he combed a hand down the back of his hair as he spoke, "My family is really protective. But that's not important. I want to enjoy the time I have with you now."

Jack's hand slowly reached its way into your grasp and he gave your hand a gentle squeeze. "There's still a lot I don't know about you, Jack. If you want to continue this, I want to get to know you. Less talk about movies, and more about the real you. Deal?"

"I have my reasons for not telling you everything," he admitted, "I really wish I could, but it's safer that you know less."

You sighed, "Well can we at least start slow? Maybe just tell me about your other interests and stuff? We don't have to go deep into your past or anything if that's what you're more comfortable with."

"That would be greatly appreciated," he grinned.

In the spur of the moment, you planted a quick peck on his cheek. His eyes widened as he placed his hand on his face. "I'm sorry, was that too forward?" You asked.

"No," he shook his head, "That was just the first time anyone has done that."

"Kissed you on the cheek?"

He nodded, his lips curling into a wide smile. "I liked it."
