Audriana Adachi pulled on her backpack that sat next to her bed. Her roommate, Sooyoung, rolled over under her white comforter and grumbled as Audriana got things ready for school.
"Sorry to disturb you, Soo," she smiled cheekily. "I'm heading to Rush Cafe before the bus stops by to get a drink. Want anything?"
Sooyoung hummed a no and shook her head in response, not wanting to get up so early or even talk.
Audriana was the youngest in the group, even if she didn't seem like. If anything, Sooyoung was the baby. Audriana was an intelligent girl and decided to follow her school life while also balancing it with work. Both her parents were always very busy, causing the kids to have to stay with their aunt. However, Audriana got caught up in the supernatural and saving people, manifesting from her childhood dreams of becoming a superhero and also from meeting people with the knowledge of these creatures.
Audriana was always interested in what her parents did. The only thing she got out of them was that it involved law enforcement, but they were very secretive about what they did. On one hand, Audriana did respected their space and dedication to keeping their job private, but it also frustrated her that they decided keeping it from their family.
Audriana put in her earbuds while leaving the apartment, saying her goodbyes even though most were still asleep. Music was a good way to help wake her up since it was one of things she was most passionate about. Locking the apartment door behind her, Audriana ran down the stairs and left the building. Rush Cafe was a cafe that resided only a couple minutes away from their apartment, which was very convenient for when they had intense research for work.
Audriana pushed open the door as the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled her senses. Walking up to the counter, she pulled out an earbud.
"Morning, Audrey," a guy named Seokcheol greeted as he flicked his black hair away from his forehead. He worked a lot of mornings when Audriana would come in. He even used to go to the same high school as her before graduating the past year. "The usual, I presume?"
"Of course." She nodded, already handing over the right amount of money. Audriana spun the free ear bud around her finger while leaning against the counter. "You heard about the disappearances, right?"
Seokcheol worked as he spoke, "Yeah, it's pretty crazy. They all seem to be very similar too. Who ever is doing this is very persistent."
"You got that right," Audriana sighed. "Hopefully the cops will catch them soon." Seokcheol didn't know about the girls' job, so she continued to keep it a secret by acting like she didn't have any information or inclinations.
The small bell above the cafe door dinged as another customer walked in. Audriana turned her head that rest in her hand to take a peek. Though Audriana didn't know everyone in town, this face seemed extremely unfamiliar to her. His eyes briefly brushed over hers before ignoring them completely as he came up to the counter.
"Good morning, what can I get you?" Seokcheol asked the stranger while continuing to make Audriana's drink.
"Um..." The guy took his time to scan the menu.
He definitely isn't from here, Audriana thought. Locals always have a sense of what they want from here.
"I think I'll take an iced americano, coffee with sugar and cream, and a green tea," He finally ordered.
"I'll get you that in a second," Seokcheol informed the customer with a smile.
Audriana watched the guy, still unable to recognize him. It was a bit odd to see new-comers in this town during a time like this. The guy glanced at her, but quickly adverted his gaze.
"I'm Audriana," she comfortably greeted. "You're not from here, are you?"
"No," he simply replied without making eye contact.
Audriana squinted her eyes. "Do I get the pleasure of knowing your name?"
"Just call me I.M."
"Is that supposed to be a code name? Are you scared I'm going to try and steal your identity?" Audriana chuckled, standing up straight and crossing her arms.
Seokcheol handed Audriana her drink. She thanked him and took a long sip while returning her attention to the guy called I.M.
"It's just what I go by," he told her with a tone that didn't put out any emotion.
Pressing her lips together, Audriana decided that he wasn't worth her time if he wasn't even going to look her in the eye. "Well, whatever you want from this town, I hope you find it. Just don't stay out after dark for too long. Weird things are going on." Audriana gave him a smile as I.M. just barely looked in her direction.
"Yeah, I heard," he replied.
"See you later, Audrey." Seokcheol waved.
Waving back, Audriana left Rush Cafe and headed to the bus.
