Sleeptalking (Sam x Reader)
"Okay, I'm going to bed," you said, getting up from the couch in the living room. Sam and Dean turned to you from either side of you on the couch.
"Alright, Y/N, see you tomorrow," Dean said, sipping his beer. Sam sat for a moment, before setting his own beer on the coffee table and getting up himself.
"I think I'm gonna get some shut-eye too, it's been a long day." Dean nodded, turning off the TV.
"I think I'm going to stay down here awhile longer, maybe do a little more research." He said. You nodded, already halfway down the hallway. Sam slowly followed, yawning loudly.
You smirked at the moose, listening to his heavy footsteps falling behind you. You stopped at your door, Sam twisting the knob of his bedroom door just across the hall from you.
"Well, goodnight, Y/N," Sam said.
"'Night, Sammy," you yawned.
"Sam," he corrected, pretending to be irritated.
"Whatever." You opened the door, entering the room and closing it behind you. Sam smiled, still standing in his doorway, but soon, the smile vanished. It was getting harder and harder to hide his feelings for you. Dean had already figured it out, and nagged Sam to tell you everyday. His new hobbies of bugging Sam about it included raising his eyebrows or smirking at Sam whenever you walked in the room, and deliberately leaving you and Sam alone in the library, kitchen, living room, and, really, anywhere else whenever he could.
It wasn't like he felt uncomfortable because of it around you, though. The truth was, you were his best friend. He loved your comforting hugs, your bubbly laugh, your bright, beautiful smile, and in all, your company. You made him feel good about himself, and you had always been there for him. You gave him a shoulder to cry on, and comforted him when he was upset. Those were just some of the reasons he loved you.
But he knew you would never love him back. You thought of him as a friend. A big brother. Nothing more.
Sighing quietly, Sam turned and walked into his room, shutting the door behind.

Tossing and turning, Sam grunted irritably. He craned his neck to look at the clock. 2:43 am. He sighed, dropping his head on the pillow. He moved restlessly for a few more minutes, attempting to find a comfortable position, but he had no such luck. He needed… something. Someone. He needed someone to help him fall asleep. He needed to hold someone.
He got up, groaning slightly as he padded across his creaky floorboards, to the door. He opened it quietly, slipping through the doorway. He stopped in his tracks, taking a deep breath. He knew this was a bad idea, but he and Y/N had shared a bed before at motels. He knew that she would help him sleep.
"Just do it, dumbass," he whispered to himself. He took quiet steps to her door across the hallway, and quietly opened the door a few inches. His eyes rested on her small figure laying on the bed, her chest rising and falling slowly and rhythmically. He smiled, seeing that she was wearing one of his old tee shirts. She had cut the neck line wider, so the corner of it slipped off of her shoulder, exposing her smooth, beautiful skin. Even just the small bit of exposed skin had his throat tightening slightly.
Maybe this was a bad idea. Sam had just turned to leave when the familiar click of a gun made him jump. Lost in his thoughts, and the dark, Sam hadn't noticed her swift and agile movement as she grabbed her gun from under her pillow, until it was already pointed at him. He couldn't help but admire her hunting instincts, but now was not the time. He put his hands up, turning back to face her, his heart racing. "Y/N! It's me!" He said in a hushed voice.
"Sam?" Y/N said, rubbing her eyes, and clicked the safety back on her gun, setting it on the bedside table. "What are you doing up?"
"I, uh, I…" Sam felt his face growing slightly flushed.
"What?" Y/N asked, worry lacing her eyes.
"I couldn't sleep, but never mind. I'm sorry I woke you up and scared you." He started to turn and leave, but Y/N stopped him.
"Wait," Y/N said. Sam stopped. "Do you, do you want to sleep in here tonight? Sometimes, it helps to have someone there to help you sleep, you know?" Y/N looked at him understandingly. Sam nodded slowly, blushing a little deeper, and he was grateful it was too dark for her to see. Y/N lifted up the blanket, patting the mattress beside her. Sam walked a little too eagerly than he should have to her bed, and climbed in. He laid down, Y/N tossing her arm across him sleepily as she rested her head on his chest. He wrapped his strong arms around her waist and torso, pulling her close to him. He could feel her warm breath on his chest through the thin shirt, and suddenly, his mind was at ease. He thought of how wonderful it would feel to be able to do this every night, cuddling up to Y/N as he went to sleep, breathing in her sweet smell, and his mind wandered. He imagined being able to do this as her boyfriend, and being able to hold her in his arms whenever he wanted, and kissing her soft lips as he pleased. He smiled longingly, and felt a twinge of pain in his heart at the fact that, that fantasy would never become a reality.
Sam felt Y/N's breathing even out again, and he knew she was once again asleep.
A few minutes later, just before Sam finally drifted off to sleep, Y/N muttered something under her breath. He didn't understand what she had said, but she repeated it again, this time more clearly.
"Sam," she mumbled. She sighed in her sleep. Sam's heart stopped.
What was she dreaming? She shifted so that her head was in the crook of his neck, and Sam's eyes fluttered shut as he felt her lips just barely grazing the skin connecting his neck and his shoulder. Her warm breath tickled his skin, and she mumbled his name again. "Sam, can't you see… Sam…" Sam's eyes snapped open.
See what? Sam groaned frustratedly, and snapped his mouth shut immediately. Unfortunately, the sound woke up Y/N. Of course.
She stirred, eyes fluttering open, and she looked up at Sam. "What was that?" She asked tiredly.
"Um, nothing, I, um, accidentally hit my head of the headboard when I shifted in my sleep. Sorry for waking you up," Sam muttered.
"It's okay." Y/N stared into Sam's eyes, the look in her own suggesting she was almost piecing together a conversation in her mind. A few moments later, Y/N spoke again. "Sam, I need to tell you something." Sam's heart raced.
"Y-yeah?"
"I, um, I-I really like you. Like, not as a friend or-or a brother, but, as something more. And, I think I might even love you. I know this is an incredibly awkward conversation to say in this position, but, I just needed to tell you that, and I understand if you don't feel the same way, I mean, you probably don't, but I just-just needed to tell you." Sam smiled, unable to believe it. Here he was, thinking Y/N could never possibly love him, but all along, she had thought the same thing about him. He craned his neck down slowly, capturing her lips with his. The kiss was slow and soft, but it said all it needed to.
Sam pulled away, and Y/N stared at him. "W-what?"
"Y/N, I have loved you for so long, it's actually started to hurt. I never thought you would ever feel the same," Sam laughed lightly.
"Well, I do. And I'm so glad you feel the same." Y/N smiled at Sam, and Sam kissed her forehead.
"Come on, let's get some sleep." They laid back down, Y/N resting her head on Sam's chest, Sam wrapping his arms protectively around her, slowly falling asleep in each other's arms.
