"Sam..."

    "Mprh... Mhm?"

    "Sam, wake up..."

    Instead of responding to your plea, he muttered some more nonsense and buried his head into the plush snow-colored pillow, resembling the stubbornness of a small child. "No," he said, voice muffled by the pillow. You sighed and bent down a bit to run your fingers through his tresses.

    Your heart ached for the gentle giant. He had been submerged in books and loose papers and computer research for the past week, hardly getting a blink of sleep and living off of pot after pot of coffee. The lilac crescents beneath his eyes grew more prominent by the hour, as well as the fatigued expression engraved in his drooping lids and arched brows. Day by day he grew more exhausted, hunching over the table and standing every couple of minutes to retrieve another book, or to get another cup of liquid energy. He lacked spirit, and the mischievous and exhilarating gleam in his eyes had worn down to a single sparkle.

    "Sam... Dean's going out to get food... and pie. Do you want anything?"

    He rolled over, the mattress creaking in certain spots as he moved enough so his eyes met yours. He outstretched his arm, palm up so your hand fit perfectly onto his. "No I'm good. But," he trailed off as he gently pulled you forward, allowing you to sit on the mattress beside him until he wrapped his arms about your torso, compelling you to lay beside him. "You can take a nap with me. It's freezing outside and you're not wearing a jacket or anything. You're cold and I'm cold so..."

    He pressed his lips to the nape of your neck, and mumbled something incomprehensible as he once again began to immerse himself into the hazy and dreamy state he had woken up in. You pondered over his well-being for a moment, knowing Dean would get something for him even if he declined the offer. Sam needed sleep so badly, you didn't want to keep him awake any longer. So after a quiet moment, you rolled your eyes, and squeezed his arm that was wrapped about you consolingly, and you allowed yourself to melt into his warm embrace.
