Chapter 4
"Come on, before they come back," Jensen whispers urgently.
I don't budge. I look around, trying to figure out where I am. Oh, right. The warehouse from a few days ago. Or minutes ago? I don't know how much time has passed here.
"Come on!" Jensen repeats, grabbing my arm and pulling me after him as he hurries out of the warehouse.
When we get outside, I notice Lucifer is standing there as well. I don't really have time to process the fact that he's here, though, because my head is spinning. I fall to my knees, unable to support myself on my own. Instantly, Lucifer is at my side.
"What's wrong?" he asks quickly.
"Leave me alone," I mutter.
"What?" he says in surprise.
"Leave me alone," I repeat.
"We can't just leave you alone outside an abandoned building," he protests. "You'll be dead in a few days, even if the djinn don't come back."
"Good."
"I'm going to assume that's the near-death experience talking," Lucifer replies.
He picks me up and carries me to the Impala, Jensen close behind us. He sits me in the back seat, then takes a seat next to me. I look out the window, trying to ignore the boy next to me.
When Jensen starts driving, he asks, "Hey, Bailey, you okay?"
I ignore him and stare at the trees as they pass.
"Are you going to talk to me?" Jensen asks.
I remain silent.
"Notice me, senpai!" Jensen says jokingly.
I roll my eyes and don't respond.
"Seriously, Bailey, talk to me."
"You stabbed me in the gut," I remind him quietly.
"Because we needed to get you out of there!" Jensen replies. "It wasn't real."
"It felt real," I tell him. "All of it." Including being stabbed, which was not pleasant.
"But it wasn't," Jensen repeats.
"It was to me."
"We saved your life," Jensen reminds me. "The least you could do is thank us."
"Thank you?" I repeat. "Why would I thank you? I was perfectly happy until you two showed up."
"Again I say, we saved your life."
"Well, maybe I didn't want to be saved," I reply coldly.
"You'll thank us one day," Jensen assures me.
I scoff. "Yeah, right. Like I'd ever pick this crappy world over my fantasy world. I had a family. I had a daughter. To lose that... You don't know what that's like."
"I do," Lucifer says softly.
"But I had her back," I remind him. "I had her back, and then you two took her from me! You guys took what could have easily been the best time of my life from me. Do you know what it's like to have your entire life taken from you?"
"Yes," Lucifer replies shortly.
"When?" I challenge him.
Lucifer hesitates before saying, "Never mind." He disappears, leaving Jensen and me alone in an awkward silence. This is not going to be a fun ride.
Surprisingly, when Jensen and I return to the bunker, Lucifer is in the living room. I would have thought he'd be hiding in his room again. I wonder what changed his mind.
"Ooh, yay, you're home!" Gabriel says excitedly, bouncing up to us. "Guess what? I trapped Lucifer out here!"
Jensen chuckles. "Nice. How'd you work that?"
"Well, after you two disappeared, I decided to check up on Lucifer, but I managed to pick the lock, which obviously meant he wasn't in there. So, I waited until he came back, and I forcefully dragged him out here." Gabriel grins proudly.
"I was literally gone for less than fifteen minutes," Lucifer tells him. "You have annoyingly perfect timing."
"I know!" Gabriel pops his foot in exaggerated happiness. "Well, now that the whole gang is here, let's party!"
"I'm not in the party mood," Lucifer protests.
"I think that's the point of the party," Matt says.
"To get you in the mood to party," Jared adds.
"Let's have a party!" Gabriel screams, pumping his fists in excitement. Suddenly, a bunch of balloons spring into existence around the room. A cake appears on the table, which I walk over to view.
There's no reason to celebrate but let's celebrate anyway
I read the cake and laugh before applauding Gabriel.
"Thank you, thank you,"he says, bowing. "Ooh, hold up." The cake appears in his hands, and he is suddenly wearing a suit. "I want to thank Bailey and Lucifer for coming out and being social, even though I forced them to. I want to thank Matt Cohen for showing up, even though we're all really annoying and he should be running away. Most importantly, I want to thank my amazing boyfriend, Jared, for not getting mad when I do this."
He throws the entire cake at Jared, hitting him in the face. The cardboard tray falls to the floor, as does some of the cake, but most of the frosting remains on the boy's face. Everyone but Jared bursts out laughing, while Jared just glares at Gabriel.
"Seriously? This was a new shirt," Jared says, though none of us actually believe he upset.
"Aw, come on. All your shirts are plaid anyway," Gabriel reminds him.
"Hey, Jared, you got a little something..." Jensen gestures to his own face, indicating the frosting that now covers the boy and the floor.
"Really? Didn't notice," Jared replies sarcastically.
"Here, I'll get it," Gabriel offers. He walks up to Jared and licks the other boy's lips. "Delicious." He starts licking Jared's face, who just laughs.
"Whoever said they aren't the cutest couple needs to get their facts straight," I announce.
"Yep, Sabriel is the best," Osric agrees. "I'm changing my vote."
"I vote Destiel because they don't do that," Crowley announces.
"Mark says Sabriel," Gabriel says.
"Thanks, guys. Really feeling the love here," Jensen says sarcastically.
"We're just telling it how it is," I say.
"No, you're lying to yourselves," Jensen replies.
"This whole Sabriel/Destiel thing is getting really stupid," Rob says.
"You're just jealous you'll never have a relationship as cute as Sabriel," Osric says.
"Or any relationship at all," Rob corrects him.
"Hey, if Lucifer can get a girlfriend, so can you," Gabriel says, smirking.
Everyone looks over at Lucifer, who doesn't say anything.
"Earth to Lucifer! You're supposed to have a sarcastic remark now!" Gabriel says.
"Sorry, zoning out. What did I miss?" Lucifer asks, though it's clear he doesn't really care. I can only imagine what he was thinking about. His thoughts go everywhere; it's the only reason I find myself missing my telepathy.
"Nothing. I was just making fun of you, that's all."
"So, the usual?"
"Yep, basically."
"You probably shouldn't be proud that this is the usual," Ruth says. "You might want to work on your sibling relationship."
"Nah, I'll pass," Gabriel replies. "I like being able to make fun of him."
"And I like being able to ignore him," Lucifer adds.
"Wow, guys. Real mature," Crowley says sarcastically.
"I think it's one of the most mature things about Gabriel, actually," Lucifer says.
"It's true," Gabriel agrees.
We all murmur in agreement. Gabriel doesn't have a lot of mature qualities, so this is likely one of the most of the type. It goes quiet after that, until Jensen finally breaks the silence.
"Let's play truth or dare," he announces.
"We just played that, like, less than a month ago," Jared reminds him.
"So? Let's play it again!"
No one seems opposed, so we all sit in a circle. I notice Lucifer sitting on the other side of it than I do, and I can't help but feel a bit offended that he doesn't want to sit near me. I end up sitting between Matt and Misha, after Castiel disappears due to his fear of games, or something like that.
"Who goes first?" Jensen asks.
"Your idea," Jared reminds him. "You should."
Jensen shrugs. "Alright. Um... Jared, truth or dare?"
"Truth," he answers immediately.
Jensen thinks for a moment before asking, "How long have you liked Gabriel? Like, that way."
Jared thinks about this. "We've been dating for what, four weeks?" Jared estimates, which Gabriel agrees to. "Then... Five, six weeks, maybe? Alright, next... Misha, truth or dare?"
"Dare, all the way!" Misha replies confidently.
"Um... I dare you to... Wow, I'm bad at this. Um... I dare you to... Do as many push-ups as you can in a row?"
Misha imitates a buzzer sound as he pretends to smack one. "That one sucks."
"What, you want something better?"
Misha nods. "Hell yeah. Let's go!"
"Okay, um... I dare you to dance to a Britney Spears song."
Misha grins. "That's not even a dare. That's what I do in my free time. Hold on, gotta get my phone."
Misha disappears, returning a minute later with his cellphone. He begins blasting "Work Bitch" on full volume, and if there's one thing I've learned from this, it's that Misha Collins is the best 'worst dancer' ever. Everyone erupts into applause, and Misha bows. He sits down and looks around the circle, stroking his nonexistent beard for effect as he thinks. Finally, his eyes land on Lucifer, an evil smirk on his face.
"Lucifer, truth or dare?"
"Dare."
"I knew you'd say that because you hate being honest," Misha says with a laugh.
"Must be a side effect of the 'embodiment of evil' thing," Lucifer replies. "I'm assuming I didn't mess up your plans, then?"
Misha shakes his head. "Nope. We haven't had any cute Baicifer moments in forever, so I dare you to French kiss Bailey."
"How long?"
"Thirty seconds."
Lucifer crawls over to me and kisses me. It feels so real, so genuine, and I begin to think he decided to give up on staying away from me. Then, at what I'm assuming is exactly thirty seconds, he pulls away and returns to his seat. So that was just for the game? Well, that's disappointing, to say the least. Lucifer looks around the circle.
"Rob, truth or dare?"
This surprises all of us. He's barely even acknowledged Rob in weeks. Who would have thought that would be the first person he asks for truth or dare?
"Truth," Rob replies.
"Why are you being so nice to me all of a sudden?"
And there it is. So it isn't for the game, with the purpose of good-humored humiliation. It's because he's had something to ask and he wants an honest answer.
"What do you mean?" Rob asks.
"You haven't done anything to me in weeks, and I've given you plenty of opportunities. Why?"
"Bailey told me to lay off you, and I did," Rob tells him.
"When did I say that?" I ask, honestly unsure when this was.
"Um... Right after our last game of truth or dare, actually," Rob replies. "Before Baicifer was a thing and everything."
"Oh yeah!" I reply, remembering that now. Damn, that was a long time ago. Actually, it's probably been about three weeks, but it feels like a long time.
We all look at Lucifer, expecting a response from the angel who asked the question, but he doesn't say anything. He doesn't even look at me, never mind thank me. We all turn back to Rob, because it's his turn.
"Gabriel, truth or dare?" Rob asks.
Gabriel thinks about it for a moment. "Usually, I'd do dare, but I feel like these truths are way more fun. Truth!"
"How long have you liked Jared for?"
Gabriel thinks about this for a moment. "We've been dating for what, four weeks?" he repeats Jared's response from earlier. "Then probably about eight or nine years."
"Damn, friend zoned much?" Jensen laughs.
Gabriel shrugs. "Meh, ya get used to it. You did with Cas," he adds with a wink. "Hey, Bailey, truth or dare?"
"Dare," I reply.
"I dare you to make out with anyone besides Lucifer. Your choice."
"How long?" I ask.
"Thirty seconds was boring, so a minute."
I nod in agreement. Now for the real part of this dare, which is the part that I least want to do. The choosing. The problem with this is it's essentially a truth inside a dare. Who would you like to kiss the most? Then kiss them. That's basically what the dare is, and I don't know who I want to kiss the most. My mind just keeps going back to Lucifer. Finally, I just turn to the boy next to me.
"I'm too lazy to get up," I admit.
Matt chuckles. "Story of my life."
"Would you be completely opposed to me picking you?" I ask.
He shakes his head. "Nope. Part of the game."
Hesitantly, I lean towards him and plant my lips on his. He kisses me back slowly, and I feel myself melting into it. If there's one thing I learn from this, it's that Matt Cohen is an amazing kisser. He pulls me closer, his arms wrapping around my torso until his hands finally settle on my hips. I run my fingers through his dark hair, awed by how soft it is. His tongue is in my mouth, wrestling with my own. I move closer to him, absentmindedly gripping his shirt in my hands. His hands slide up my back and to my shoulder blades to pull me towards him, but I'm physically incapable of getting any closer.
The sound of Gabriel laughing breaks us from our trance. I quickly sit back down, embarrassed by the fact I forgot we had an audience.
"Sorry, Mark and Rich have some great commentary," Gabriel says. "I've got to admit, that is not at all what I was expecting."
"We're committed to the dare," Matt replies with a confident smirk.
"Clearly," Gabriel laughs. "Alright, Bailey, you're up. Let's see if anyone can have as much fun as you did."
I have an idea, but I need to know if it's possible. Because it's aimed at Gabriel and Lucifer isn't very happy with me, the only one I can ask about it is Castiel. I pray to him silently.
Hey, Cas, is it possible for an angel to make their wings appear to a human? Like, able to be touched? Tell Misha to answer yes or no.
Misha makes a confused face, then says, "I'm supposed to say 'yes.' Not sure why."
I grin. "Hey, Gabriel, truth or dare?"
"I did truth last time, so dare," he replies.
With a smirk, I say, "I dare you to make your wings visible and let Jared play with them."
Gabriel's face falls when I say that. "Aw, you little bitch!"
"I'm a bitch and proud!" I reply.
"I'm so confused right now," Jared announces. "What am I doing?"
"Don't explain," I add.
Gabriel glares at me. "I really hate you sometimes."
"I know!"
Gabriel's wings glow faintly for a moment, and I know it means they're visible to everyone. I can hear the gasps of those who can't usually see them. Gabriel looks at Jared.
"Be really, really gentle," he says.
"What's going on right now?" Jared asks.
Gabriel glances at me, wanting to explain, but I shake my head. It will be way more fun when Jared figures it out himself. Gabriel frowns and turns back to Jared.
"You'll figure it out pretty quickly, I guarantee it. Well, if I can keep my wings up long enough. She wants you to pet my wings like a cat, basically. Just be really careful and whatever you do, don't brush my feathers the wrong way, okay?"
"Um... Okay?"
Jared kneels in front of Gabriel and reaches out a hand, lightly brushing Gabriel's wing. The angel flinches, his wing jerking away momentarily. Jared cocks his head in confusion, but he doesn't get a response. He strokes Gabriel's wing again, and the shorter boy bites his lip to keep from reacting. Jared does it again, clearly getting more curious with every try. Gabriel gives a little moan, squeezing his eyes shut.
Jared smirks. "You're getting off on this, aren't you?"
"It wasn't my idea," Gabriel replies simply.
"Well, I love it anyway."
Jared continues to stroke the angel's feathers, and Gabriel can't help but moan every time. It's clear to us all that Jared is enjoying this way too much. He pets Gabriel's wing again and again and again and-
"Ow!" Gabriel cries out, snapping out of it immediately.
"What?" Jared asks quickly.
"Nothing. Just a bit too hard, that's all," Gabriel tells him. His wings glow a bit, and I know they disappear from the sight of almost everyone.
"Are you okay?" Jared asks.
Gabriel nods. "Yeah, I'm fine. It wasn't that hard."
"See? I was able to make someone enjoy it more than me," I say victoriously.
"Bailey, truth or dare?" Gabriel asks, instead of replying to my remark.
"It's always you in the revenge gigs, isn't it, Bailey?" Ruth observes.
"And it always starts with a kiss, too," Osric adds.
I ignore them and say, "Truth."
"Dammit," he mutters under his breath, and I feel a pang of relief that I chose the easy way out. "Alright, who's a better kisser, Matt or Lucifer?"
The problem with this is that the answer is actually Matt, as much as I hate to admit it. I can't say that, though, because I'm sure Lucifer isn't thrilled that I made out with him for that long, and I don't want to mess things up further. I can't lie and say Lucifer, though, because it's truth or dare. I may be willing to go a bit over the top, but I won't cheat. Finally, I settle on the comedic approach.
"I think Lucifer need a bit more practice," I say. "And I'm more than willing to be the one he practices on."
"Ooh, she called you out, bro!" Gabriel laughs.
I risk a glance at Lucifer for the first time since my kiss with Matt. His expression is unreadable, and I find myself wishing for my powers back to see what he's thinking.
Lucifer just shrugs. "Part of the game."
Gabriel cocks his head in confusion, and I have to agree with him. Why is Lucifer being so chill about this? Lucifer's never chill. I wish I just knew what was going on with him.
"Bailey, you're up," Jensen reminds me.
"I know, but I don't have anyone to get revenge on right now," I reply. I already got back at Gabriel, and probably more than he deserved. Now I don't have anyone to go after. Finally, I look at Osric. "You haven't gone yet, so Osric, truth or dare?"
"Honestly, these dares are scaring me, so truth."
"This is something I've been wondering but never had the chance to ask," I tell him. "Are you gay?"
"I'm pansexual, thank you very much," he says with exaggerated sass. "That was surprisingly easy by this game's standards. Wait, I take that back. Now I have to be creative. Um... Ah, screw creativity. Jensen, truth or dare?"
"Dares are scary, so truth."
"Since I'm not creative at all today, how long have you been crushing on Cas?"
Jensen looks at the floor and says, "Since the moment I met him."
"Aww!" Gabriel squeals. "That's the perfect answer!"
"I agree completely," I say.
"We all agree completely," Osric says. "Your turn."
"Um... Lucifer, truth or dare?"
"Dare," he replies without hesitation.
"I dare you to tell us what's going on between you and Bailey, because I'm not getting any Baicifer feels right here."
"That's a truth!" Lucifer protests. "I said dare."
"Yes, so I dare you to answer," Jensen replies with a smug smile.
"You can't do that!" Lucifer complains. "That's not fair!"
"Jury says it is!" Gabriel announces. "Rich and Mark agree, too."
"But-" Lucifer looks around the circle, but it's clear everyone wants to know, me included. Lucifer sighs. "This isn't how the game is supposed to work," he huffs.
"Too bad," Jensen replies. "What's going on between you and Bailey? Why is Baicifer so nonexistent?"
Lucifer is silent for a moment before saying, "I'm going to call it a night."
"What? You can't do that!" Gabriel whines.
"Come on, Lucifer!" Mark whines. "See? The suspense is so bad, I'm visible now. You're not allowed to leave now."
"Watch me."
Lucifer stands up to walk away, but Mark runs at him and tackles him to the ground. Lucifer pushes the ghost off of him and sits up.
"If you leave, I'm going to follow you and keep asking until you finally tell me," Mark announces. "And you know I will do that, too."
"Seriously, why is Baicifer gone?" Jensen asks. "Because that was one of my OTPs, and I am not letting that ship sink."
"And I think I deserve to know, too," I add.
Jensen looks at me in surprise. "Wait, you don't... Oh, wow." He looks at Lucifer. "Well? You can't just not tell your girlfriend."
Lucifer hesitates for so long, I begin to wonder if he's going to say anything. Finally, he does.
"Because I can't keep a relationship to save my life, so if I'm going to lose you, I might as well get it over with now."
"What are you talking about?" I ask.
"Do I really have to explain? Because it's pretty self explanatory to me."
"Yes, you do have to explain," I reply. "Who are you talking about? And don't tell me it's just Macie."
"No, Macie was just when I realized it. Again. No, I'm thinking about my brothers, my dad, my aunt, hell, even my vessel died."
"Okay, but I'm still here," Mark protests. "And annoying as ever."
"And Rob's still here," I remind him. "He's literally sitting, like, three people over from you."
"Yeah, but he-" Lucifer stops himself. "Look, I answered the question. I'm done." With regard flap of his wings, he disappears, leaving the rest of us in a confused silence.
"Maybe I shouldn't have gone there," Jensen says finally.
"Ya think?" Jared replies. "You know better than to antagonize him."
"But he was being so chill about everything," Jensen says. "I figured he wouldn't mind-"
"I think the problem is that we pushed him to answer," Rob interrupts.
"But I wanted to know why he's been such a bitch to me lately," I protest.
"Yeah, and I want to know what he was going to say about me," Rob replies. "But Lucifer does stuff in his own schedule, and we should have let him go with it."
"I completely disagree, but if you want to be wrong, go ahead."
"Does this mean the game is over?" Misha asks.
"Depends. Do you want to keep playing?" Jensen asks, looking around the circle. Everyone shrugs, no one completely opposed to it.
"One more thing," Gabriel adds. Suddenly, a six pack of beer appears in the center of the circle. Gabriel takes one, pops the cap off, and takes a sip. He exhales with a smile. "Alright, let's do this the fun way."
