Dark shadows are cast on the motel walls, creating the eerie sensation of danger and fear. Wind ruffles the tree outside the window, causing the branches to rap and tap against the glass. The scary noises add to the dark atmosphere.
You let out a shaky breath. Dad said they'd be back before dark, but they haven't returned yet. You've been trying to keep calm, but you can't contain the worry.
The wind picks up again, causing you to shudder underneath the cheap motel blankets. His bags are gone, Sam and Dean's too. Yours is missing too.
Maybe they left you behind? Why would they do that? They wouldn't forget you, would they? They couldn't forget about their family.
So then, where are they?
Maybe the hunt went bad, but if it did then why would the bags be suddenly gone? You had taken a short nap after they left and woke up to an empty room, duffels and weapons missing.
You've been waiting for them to come back for hours. So far, you've managed to avoid panic. John never told you what to do if something like this happened. Usually, they wouldn't even leave you alone. Sam or Dean would stay behind to watch you while the others hunted.
This time was different.
They just left.
You can't see the car or truck in the parking lot either. The half moon shines brightly down on the earth, a beautiful sight if not for your dire situation.
You decide to wait until morning and think about what to do. So, you cuddle against the coarse blankets and try to block out the haunting sounds of the branches scraping against the window and the daunting sight of shadows dancing.
You feel like you're being watched. You just can't shake the intimidating feeling, so you clutch your hunting knife that is strapped to your waist.
Morning comes and they still aren't back. You wait a couple hours before hunger kicks in and you're forced to go out with just the clothes on your back, your knife, and the money you have in your pockets.
You slowly open the door and slip outside. Taking a deep breath, you walk along the road to a food truck and nervously check how much money you have. It's not much, unsurprisingly. Dean and Sam gave you money for your birthday a while ago, but it wasn't much and now you only have five bucks left.
You stare at the menu from afar, scared to have to go and order food. A whoosh fills your ears and you try to find the source of the noise. You turn to see a man in a tan trench coat sitting on a wooden bench not too far away.
You could've sworn that he wasn't there before. He turns his head and makes eye contact with you. Gasping, you look away. Finally scrounging up the courage to order food, you walk up to the man in the truck and order fries, which is the cheapest thing on the menu.
The worker looks at you, probably wondering why such a young kid is all alone. As he hands you the french fries, he asks you, "Where are your parents?"
You freeze, trying to think of a way out of this, "They're close, they told me to get some food."
"Really?" He looks at you quizzically.
Suddenly, a low, rough voice answers as a hand comes to rest on your shoulder, "Y/n, let's get going."
You look up in shock and find yourself staring into blue eyes. The man has a nice face and wears a trench coat with a blue tie. His touch is gentle and not threatening at all, but you still stiffen. How does he know your name?
The food truck guy asks, "You her dad?"
"More like a babysitter. Her dad is away on business so I'm keeping watch," the man with the rough voice answers. He starts to walk away and you reluctantly follow.
You watch him curiously, wondering who he could be.
"I know you're curious Y/n, and I will answer your questions. I am Castiel, an angel of the lord and a friend of your brothers." The man, Castiel, says as if reading your mind.
He smiles down at you, as if he knows something you don't.
"You're an angel?" You echo in disbelief.
He chuckles a bit, "Yes, I am."
"You said you're a friend of my brothers... They've never mentioned you."
Again, his face contorts into a knowing smirk, "It's complicated. You see, I'm an angel and I can time travel. I'm from the future."
You blink. "The future? Why are you here then?"
"As I said, it's complicated."
Staring up at him, you stop walking, "Do you know where my family is?"
"Yes, don't worry, they're coming back tomorrow. In the meantime, I am here to help you."
"Help?" You echo again.
"Yes."
You keep walking, until a man suddenly jumps out from a building and stares you down with black eyes. Screaming, you jump back as Castiel jumps forward and places his hand on the demon's head. With a blinding flash of light, the demon drops to the ground, dead.
"How'd you do that?" You ask, staring at the body in shock.
He looks at you in all seriousness, "I told you - I'm an angel."
Another jumps out and attacks, but Castiel is swift to kill it. You look around for more, but you can't see any.
"Well, thanks C-cas-tell? Casty?" You try to pronounce his name, causing him to smile.
"You can call me Cas."
"Okay Cas. Will you be my friend too?"
"Of course, Y/n."
You smile and place your small hand in is.
