In the hunting business, everyday should be counted as a blessing, because a hunter never knows where their time is up. Each monster that a hunter goes up against could be the last thing they see before death drags them to the afterlife.
You understand this fact of life. So does Sam and Dean.
Today is your birthday.
Usually not a big deal, but this time you, Dean, and Sam are gonna celebrate. Sam and Dean have both planned some form of activity to do today. They insisted that you let them throw you a party to remember.
You had agreed, but only if they didn't actually plan on having a bunch of people around. You just wanted to hangout with your friends. Those friends being the Winchester brothers.
So, here you are, sitting in the back seat of the Impala, Sam and Dean occupying the front seats.
"So, where to boys?" You ask, curiosity eating away at your insides.
Dean smiles at you using the rearview mirror, "Can't tell you, it'd ruin the surprise."
Rolling your eyes, you focus your attention on Sam, "Seriously, tell me."
"Nope," he replies, popping the 'p'.
You sigh, exasperatedly. Really, you're super excited and can't wait to see what they planned for you. After a quick drive through town, Dean pulls up in front of an ice-cream shop.
A giant grin awakens on your face as everyone starts to unbuckle their seat belts.
"Welcome to the first stop," Sam grins, opening the door for you.
"Yes! I love ice-cream!" You hop out of the vehicle and follow Dean and Sam in.
After filling up with all your favourite flavours of ice-cream, you sit at the table and look eagerly at the brothers. "Where to next?"
They take you to a movie that you've been waiting to watch. It was supposed to be a scary movie, but during the most intense moments you snicker, earning glares from everyone in the theatre.
After the movie, they bring you to a respectable restaurant. The food is delicious, but pricy. They play rock-paper-scissors to see who pays. Dean choses scissors both times and ends up paying for the meal.
After that, they lead you back into the car.
"Guys, this birthday was amazing!"
Sam smirks, "Hey, it's not over yet."
"There's more?" You ask, brows furrowed together in confusion.
"Wait and see," comes the cryptic reply from Dean. With a huff, you sit back and wait for the ride to be over.
The drive takes longer than you expected, and Dean even lets you pick the music for once. Sam, Dean, and you talk, and for once your conversations don't revolve around a hunt.
It's nice to just enjoy each others company without worrying about a monster trying to kill you.
You watch the sunset, enjoying the beautiful oranges, pinks, purples, and yellows as the sun disappears. Another half-hour passes before the car stops.
"We're here," Dean says, exiting the car and opening the door for you. You look around, and find yourself in a field of wildflowers under the bright moon and the heavenly host of stars.
"It's beautiful..." You whisper as you take in the glories of nature. Dean passes you a beer, and leans against the Impala.
"We know you like stargazing, so what better way to end a birthday?" He explains as he opens his drink.
"You like it?" Sam asks, opening his drink as well.
You open your beverage too, "I love it. You guys are the best!"
Dean and Sam join in your grinning.
"Let's make a toast," Dean suggests.
"To friends," you state, lifting the bottle into the air.
"To family," Dean adds.
"To life," Sam finishes.
They clink their bottles against yours before taking a swig. You drink, observe the stars, and pick some wildflowers. All the while, Sam tells the stories of the constellations and the mythology of stars.
You sit in-between Sam and Dean as you watch the sky and talk. A shooting star passes by too, making the night even more special. You close your eyes and embrace the cold of the night, before sitting back in the Impala.
"Sam, Dean, Thanks so much. This has been the best day ever, and I owe it all to you."
"No problem."
"Anything for you."
You smile and lean back in your seat as you watch the countryside fly past. You're truly lucky to have these boys as your best and closest friends.
