Imagine #1 - Team Free Will
Imagine...
A/n - song is Your Ghost by Greg Laswell. You don't have to listen to it but I was inspired by it.
Word Count: 470

It's quiet here.
You look down at your body, unblinking.
It's unrecognizable with charred flesh and tattered clothes.
Your brothers, Sam and Dean, stare at the empty shell, unmoving.
You don't want them to be sad. The pain of your demise is simply a distant memory now. You want to tell them that you're not hurting anymore.
Sadly, you observe as Dean takes your body in his arms and cries. Sam's crying too.
You would be crying, if only ghosts could cry.
~
It's cold here.
You occupy the Impala's backseat, invisible and silent. Sam sips his coffee halfheartedly while Dean drives. There's no music playing.
No reapers have tried to deliver your soul to the afterlife, not that you're really complaining. You're not ready to say goodbye just yet. Besides, your soul is attached to an object, making it impossible for you to leave.
The necklace, a gift from your father, is tied to the rear view mirror. It serves as a testament to what Sam and Dean lost.
You look at the passing scenery, unable to bear the agonized silence that surrounds you.
~
It's empty.
The Impala is always empty now.
Sam and Dean haven't been in here for awhile, probably drinking and working their sadness and guilt away.
You're lonely without them. You just want everything to go back to normal. Why can't you just fade away?
Castiel hasn't been around either. In fact, you haven't seen the angel since you passed away.
Knowing Dean, he's probably lashing out at everyone and blaming Cas for not saving you. You know he's blaming himself more than anyone else, though.
You've tried to destroy the necklace, but you can't. You can't touch anything.
You can't speak, or sleep, or do anything.
It's worse than you ever imagined.
You've tried begging Sam and Dean to destroy the necklace but they can't hear your cries.
It's a nightmare.
~
It's dark.
It's dark and cold and you're all alone and you're scared.
Please, someone help me.
Angel wings can be heard as Cas appears in the Impala's front seat.
He hesitates before asking, "Y/n?"
"Yes," you breathe out happily. Finally someone to talk to.
"I heard your prayer."
"Thank you, Cas! Can you please salt 'n burn my necklace? I can't move on without it being destroyed."
"Do Sam and Dean know you're here?"
You shake your head, "No."
He nods and sighs, "I'm sorry I couldn't save you."
"It's alright Cas, don't feel guilty. And tell Dean and Sam that it's not their fault either. Tell them that I'm okay now," you smile gently as he takes your necklace in his hand.
He looks to you once more for affirmation.
You nod.
The metal catches fire and you turn to find Death himself standing beside you.
"Come on, dear. Heaven awaits."
