The musty scent of old books and dusty shelves fills your senses as you sit in an oversized armchair in the corner of the town library. Pages rustle as you flip over to the next page of your favourite book. A bored sigh escapes your lips as you finish the book in record timing.
Glancing up, you stand to your feet and stretch after having sat there for hours. The seemingly endless shelves of books await, so you start to wander down the aisles. Your fingers trail against the dusty bindings of the books.
Enjoying the silence of the library, you keep searching for another book to read. You find a book on the top shelf that looks interesting, so you reach for it without hesitation.
Out of the blue, another hand grasps it and pulls it from its spot above you. Shocked at the presence of another person, you turn around to find yourself facing a tall, handsome man. Your gaze is fixed on the man's brown eyes.
"Here," he says, handing you the book, "it didn't look like you could reach, so I thought..."
You accept the book graciously and reply with a chuckle, "Thanks. You're right, I wouldn't have been able to reach it easily."
You smile as you walk by him to get to the sitting area. Claiming your usual seat, you sit and start reading. Occasionally, you glance up and see the man looking intently at the books. He seems to be searching for one in particular.
You set the book down and work up the courage to approach the man. Finally, you make your way to him and tap him on his shoulder.
He turns around with a concerned look on his face, but it relaxes when he sees you.
"Can I help you find something? I know this place like the back of my hand, so..."
"Oh, I'm just looking. Do you have any recommendations?" He asks.
"Hmm, depends on what genre you're interested in. This one," you snatch a book from the shelf in front of you, "is good if you're looking for action. Or this one if you want true-crime. Or this one if you want some interesting folklore about the town-"
"That one sounds interesting," he interrupts.
"Here," you hand the book to him.
His fingers accidentally brush against yours as he takes it from your hands.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
You walk back and sit back down, resuming your reading. The man walks over and starts to sit down, but you stop him.
"Oh! You don't wanna sit there!" You blurt out at the stranger.
He stands up again and looks at you, shocked, "What? Why?"
"It's the worst seat in the whole building, honest to goodness. There's a terrible draft, the cushion is hard and lumpy, and there's a questionable stain on it," you inform him.
"Now, this chair," you motion to the one you're sitting on, "is the most comfy, so I usually sit here. This one is the second most comfortable, so I suggest you sit there."
You point to the armchair next to the one you're sitting on. He chuckles and takes a seat.
"Wow, you just saved my life there, didn't you?" He jokes.
''Yes. You're welcome by the way."
"I'm Sam," he introduces himself, sticking his hand out for you to shake.
You shake his hand, enjoying the warm gesture, "Y/n. Nice to meet you."
Over the next hour, you and Sam talked and enjoyed each other's company. But, soon you had to leave.
"It was great meeting you, Sam. See you again sometime?" You say as you get ready to leave.
"Same here, and yeah, see you soon," he says, walking you out of the library.
You're glad that you decided to come to the library today.
