"Where are we going, Shawn?" A grumpy Gus asks for the umpteenth time.
The best friend in question simply shrugs, "Wherever the wind takes us Gus."
"Which happens to be towards that new ice-cream place just up the road, huh?"
"Precisely."
"Shawn, I took the day off work for this 'cause you were saying you have a huge case for us!"
"I still do, we just need to make a quick stop first!"
"Are you treating? You better be treating."
A hand suddenly blocks Gus, stopping him in his tracks.
"Huh-?"
"Shh!" Shawn waves his hand around before pointing, "Look!"
Their eyes travel a ways up the road to see an impeccable '67 Impala, her black body shining in the hot sun. But, they weren't just looking at the car.
Exiting the pristine vehicle is a woman with luxurious h/c hair, gorgeous e/c eyes, and great fashion sense. Decked out in a crop-top tank-top that says 'Life ain't all burritos and strippers my friends', a f/c flannel shirt and a pair of short-shorts, she shuts the Impala door and leans against it to check her phone. Huffing, she sheds her flannel, cursing the sun.
"Are you seeing the glorious sight that I am?" Shawn asks his friend.
"Uh-huh."
"She looks kinda lost..."
They make eye contact for a split second.
"Dibs!" They yell in tandem, speed-walking towards the girl.
~
You glare at your phone, squinting at the address on the screen.
Hmm, I swear I wrote it down right... Why do I always get lost!
Sounds of scuffling feet interrupt your thoughts, stealing your attention. You look up, surprised to see two men standing there no longer glaring at each other.
Eyes narrowing a bit, you shove your phone in your back pocket, "May I help you?"
"Oh, we were wondering if we could help you," the one with messy hair says with a flirty smile.
He gets elbowed by his friend, who says in a deeper voice, "He means to say that you seem kind of lost."
You chuckle a bit, "Was it that obvious?"
The pale one opens his mouth but his friend cuts him off, "No, of course not, we're just unusually perceptive."
Nice brag.
You shake your head, pulling out the address. "I need to get here, but I seem to have taken a wrong turn somewhere. Could you help a girl out?"
Their smiles widen, "Certainly."
"I'm Shawn Spencer and this is Ghee Buttersnaps," the messy hair one introduces.
You raise an eyebrow.
"Shawn!" The man referred to as 'Ghee' groans, elbowing him sharply before smiling back at you. "Ignore him, my name's Burton Guster, people call me Gus."
"Nice to meet you, Shawn, Gus. I'm Y/n Babar."
"Like the elephant?" Gus asks.
You smile, "Yup."
Shawn looks at the address and tells you the instructions, which Gus has to modify once in a while, as you type them down on your phone. After that is done, you thank them for their help.
"Say, you're not in a hurry, are you?" Shawn inquires.
You see where this is going, "Not really. I have some time."
"Perfect, 'cause there's this new ice-cream place that just opened up a few blocks away from here and I've been dying to test it out," he continues.
"Is that an invitation?" You smirk.
"It sure is," Gus takes the reigns.
You lock the Impala and look back at them, "Lead the way, boys."
~
You made a great choice. Hanging out with the two best friends was a lot of fun and the ice-cream was delicious as heck.
But all good things come to an end.
Your phone rings, making you groan.
"Sorry, guys, I have to take this."
"It's alright, don't mind us," Gus says.
You nod and stand up from the booth, walking to an empty one so that no one can overhear you.
"Moshi moshi."
"I told you to stop doing that," your brother Dean's complains.
"And I told you to kiss Cas, but here we are," you smirk.
He sighs, "Shut up. Where are you, we're getting worried."
"I'm getting ice-cream."
"What? From the store?"
"No, Dean, from the cow."
"Bring back some apple pie."
"They don't have apple pie."
"What?! That's ridiculous."
You roll your eyes, "I don't run the store Dean. Get your own apple pie."
"How's Baby doing?"
"Baby's fine, you know I take good care of her."
"You better."
"I'll be at the motel soon enough, just keep working on the case."
You hang up before he can say anything else, walking back to the booth.
~
Shawn and Gus watch Y/n walk away and answer her phone before turning to share a look.
"I can't believe she came with us!"
"Of course she did, Gus, we're chick magnets," Shawn says, shoving a spoon of pineapple ice-cream into his mouth. "She's fallen for our charms."
They glance over at her, watching as she rolls her eyes.
"I wonder who she's talking to."
Shawn observes for a few seconds, "She seems friendly with who ever it is. Relative maybe?"
"Boyfriend?"
Shawn shakes his head, "Nah, she's single."
"How can you tell?"
"I just can, ok."
"Shawn," Gus narrows his eyes.
"Think about it, Gus. Would a girl in a relationship go hang out with two dudes she doesn't know?"
"... You have a point."
"I rest my case."
A pause of silence.
"You think she's interested?"
"Sorry Gus, I don't think you stand a chance against me."
"Ha, as if. No one can resist the Burton charm."
Shawn laughs and the bickering begins.
~
You get back to your ice-cream, "You two argue like there's no tomorrow."
They straighten, noticing your presence.
"Who was that?" Gus asks.
You narrow your eyes, "What's it to ya?"
His eyes widen, "I didn't mean to be nosy, I just-"
"Pfft, it's okay. That was my bro, wondering where I've been. I should be heading out. It's been a lot fun, guys."
"The pleasure was all ours," Gus stands to his feet.
"If you're ever in the neighborhood again, let us know, we can do this again sometime," Shawn adds.
"Will do, boys. See ya around."
They watch you leave, a bit disheartened.
~
"When I said I'd see you soon, I didn't mean it like this," you joke, smirking.
Shawn and Gus stare at you, mouths agape.
You and your brothers just made it to the newest crime scene caused by some sort of supernatural creature and guess who you ran into.
"I didn't peg you as police," you comment.
"You didn't peg us at all, actually," Shawn smirks.
Next to you, Dean frowns as you laugh at the inappropriate comment. "Watch it, buddy."
"Sorry, is Y/n your girlfriend?" Shawn asks, not missing a beat.
You laugh even louder.
"No, this is my sister."
"Ahh, I see."
"Wait, how do you know these jokers?" Dean redirects his line of questioning.
You smile, "I met them yesterday. We got ice-cream."
Dean simply glowers at you and you shrug.
"Anyways, you guys are police?" You ask Gus.
"It's hard to explain-"
Another man approaches, looking grumpy.
"Hey Lassie!"
Said man groans, "What are you doing here? And who are you two?"
"Chief called us in," Shawn answers.
"We're with the FBI," you answer, flashing your badge.
The man's scowl deepens, "FBI? This is the Santa Barbra Police Department's jurisdiction. You shouldn't be here."
"Hey, we just go where the boss man tells us to," Dean fires back. "Take it up with our supervisor, Detective..."
"Lassiter."
"Detective Lassiter, would you mind if we took a look around?" You ask, already walking under the police tape.
He grumbles after you, the rest falling in line as well.
~
"Clearly vampiric in nature," you whisper to Dean as you walk away grin the crime scene just as something strange happens.
Shawn starts grunting and waving his hands sporadically. You stop to stare at him.
No cold spots, can't be a ghost possession...
I didn't see a demon possess him...
"I'm getting something!" He shouts, stopping his sporadic movements.
You tilt your head as Gus leans over to whisper, "It's his process."
"Process?"
"Yeah, he's a psychic."
You blink a few times.
If he was a psychic than he would know that we're hunting vampires and that Dean and I are Winchester's. Pretty much everyone in the psychic community knows about us...
"Really?"
"Uh-huh."
You stop talking and focus on Shawn's episode.
"It was an outsider... yes, I can see it now! Teeth, blood, no blood, a fight! He lost. His attacker ran... that way!" He points to an abandoned building.
He's pretty good for being a fake.
You share a knowing look with Dean.
You had also suspected the vampire to be hiding out in that place. It's a typical looking nest for a vampire.
"Let's check it out," Lassiter says.
"Maybe you should stay back," you tell Shawn and Gus. "It could get dangerous."
"Pfft, we're no strangers to danger," Shawn laughs.
That may be true, but you saw how they squealed at the sight of the dead body.
"Sure... just be careful."
~
A vampire leaps at you, screeching with all its might. Acting swiftly, you pull out your machete and slice through its head.
A couple of high pitches squeals sound behind you.
There, mouths open in shock and fear, Stand Shawn and Gus.
"Relax, it's okay," you try to console them.
"That-That wasn't human, Shawn."
"I-I-"
Shawn seems to be at a loss for words.
"It was a vampire. I thought you were a psychic? You should know this shit."
"Vampires don't exist."
"Keep telling yourself that, it still won't change the fact that they do and they aren't pretty."
"We gotta tell Lassie."
You block there path, "You can do that after I'm gone. Right now, I gotta dash."
"We can't just let you go! You just killed a man!"
Dean arrives on scene.
"Good job on the vamp, sis."
"Thanks. Let's go."
"Wait!" Shawn calls out to you.
You pause and look back.
"This can't be real," he laughs in disbelief.
You smile sadly, "If you look hard enough, you'll find that many more things like that exist in the world. We're one of the few who try to make the world a better, safer place. You just gotta know where to look."
They stare after you, taking in your words.
"I really hope I see you guys again," you smile. "I like you two, you're good people. I'm sorry I lied to you. My name is Y/n Winchester... and I hunt monsters."
With that, you walk away, leaving them behind.
