"On the road again," you sing, much to the annoyance of your older brothers in the front seat.
"Could you stop?!"
You cross your arms, "Could you put on some music?!"
The drive has been mostly quiet, which has been gnawing at you for some time. Sam had been hassling Dean about his music choices, so Dean turned it off altogether.
They keep quiet, which makes you sigh in irritation, "Please, I need music! The radio, anything!"
Just then, a town comes into view.
"Finally, we're here," Sam sighs in relief.
"Great! Now I can get away from you dweebs," you chuckle at Dean's mock offended expression.
"Hey, you're lucky we keep you around!" He stares you down through the rear view.
"Yeah, yeah," you say, looking outside in excitement. Being cooped up in the car for so long always makes you anxious to stretch your legs.
Dean pulls Baby into the parking lot of a motel and you are the first to hop out.
"I'm gonna go explore!" You inform Sam before you start to walk away.
He grabs your shoulder before you make it two steps, "It's gonna get dark soon."
"I know, that's what makes it exciting," you smirk.
"Just, uh, bring your gun then. Remember, there might be a werewolf lurking around somewhere."
"I always have my gun, and I know that," you reply before taking off down the street.
The sun is just beginning to set as you come upon an empty lot. It is overrun with long grass and some random rubble and sticks. There's a couple of trees sequestered in a corner, with a rundown bench.
You head over to the bench and sit down to watch the golden sunset. Little did you know, that this was the ideal hangout for two boys.
~
"Who's that?" Johnny asks Ponyboy as they variously walk towards the bench from behind.
They leave plenty of room between them and the stranger, uncertain.
It could be an enemy.
"I don't know," Pony whispers back, "It's a girl."
"I can see that, I'm not blind."
The mysterious girl turns around, "I can hear you, you know?"
Pony slouches instinctively, hooking his thumbs in his jeans. Johnny hardens his expression, but his eyes contain his nerves.
~
You watch as the boys instantly change their demeanours.
One, clad in a blue shirt cutoff at the sleeves, slouches and gains an uninterested expression. The other, tan skinned and wearing a jean jacket, stands taller and also gains a stony expression.
"Hey, relax. I didn't mean to scare you, but you are the ones sneaking up on me," you appraise them and offer a smile. "Not that it worked out too well."
They still look uncertain.
"Is this your spot? I can leave if you'd like."
"No, that's alright," the one in the blue shirt says coolly.
You try another tactic, "I'm Y/n Winchester. I just got into town."
He hesitates, "I'm Ponyboy Curtis."
"Johnny Cade."
Smiling, you motion to the space beside you, "Wanna sit? I don't bite."
Cautiously, they approach and seat themselves.
"What brings you to town?" Ponyboy questions.
You hum thoughtfully, "Business trip. My brothers let me come with. You live here, right?"
They nod, "Yeah."
"'Ponyboy'," you test the name out and grin, "That's a cool name."
He seems grateful that you didn't give the expected reaction. "Thanks. I have a brother named Sodapop, says it right on his birth certificate."
You chuckle, "Your parents must be the real creative type, huh?"
His face falls and becomes more withdrawn at the mention of his parents. "They were."
"Shoot, I'm sorry."
"It's fine."
You shake your head, "It's not fine. It's tough losing parents."
Attention back on the sunset, you smile at the golden hues that paint the cloudy sky. The boys also look at the splendorous spectacle.
"This sunset sure is gorgeous," you let out a low whistle.
Johnny smiles, "Sure is."
You talk with them until the sun disappears completely.
As the darkness begins to descend, you look to your new friends, "So, anything to do around here?"
"We could go to the nightly double. Darry won't mind 'cause it's not a school night," Pony offers.
"Up for a movie?" Johnny asks you, shoving his hands into his pockets.
You grin, "Sure."
~
They lead you to a hole in the fence of the drive in theater and slip through it. You follow, swiping off dust as you stand up again.
Chuckling, you race them to the seats just as the movie starts up.
"I've never been to a drive in movie before," you tell them as you lean back.
"Seriously?" Pony asks in disbelief.
You nod, "Dead serious. This is awesome!"
They laugh at your behaviour and you joke with them before someone plops down beside you, promptly falling off the chair.
"Dally!" Johnny exclaims happily.
"Didn't know you were out of the cooler," Pony seems less excited than his tanned companion.
"Yeah, they let me out early for good behaviour," the one called Dally explains with a cheeky smirk.
He wears a worn, brown leather jacket, black shirt, and blue jeans. His hair is dark and a necklace is draped around his neck.
His eyes land on you, "You pickin' up chicks or somethin', boys?"
You laugh, "More like I picked them up. Y/n Winchester, I just got into town and happened upon these fine gentlemen."
"'Gentlemen'? These Greasers?!" He laughs and slaps his knee, "That's rich!"
Pony and Johnny look embarrassed as he laughs.
"They're more gentlemanly than you," you state pointedly.
This seems to stop his laughter.
"Want a smoke?" He asks as he lights one for himself.
You refuse, "I don't smoke, thanks."
"Why? You a goody-two-shoes or somethin'?"
Glaring at him, you straighten your back and cross your arms, "Far from it. I just don't like smoking."
Just to irritate you, he blows smoke into your face, which makes you shoot daggers at him with your eyes. He just smiles innocently.
"What are you doing?!" A rough, low voice questions, nearly sending you flying off your seat.
You whirl upon the stranger and almost make a move for your gun. Johnny looks just as, if not more, shaken than you as he turns around.
A dude with sideburns and a Mickey Mouse muscle shirt stands there laughing. When he sees Johnny's pale expression he stops laughing, "Sorry, Johnny, I forgot."
Johnny shakes a bit, "It's fine."
The man looks like he regrets scaring him but turns his attention to you. "Well, hello there, doll."
"Hi," you relax and move your hand from where your gun is hidden at your waist.
"Name's Two-Bit," he smirks and leans against the back of your seat.
You chuckle, "What's with the cool names around here?"
"It's 'cause he always needs to get his two-bits in. He never shuts up," Dally explains, taking a a long drag.
"He's not wrong," Two-Bit smirks, "But it's only 'cause I have a lot of interesting things to say."
"Uh-huh," you say in amusement.
"Never seen you around before," he continues.
You nod, "I'm here on business."
"Business? Ain't you a little young to be a businesswoman?"
Shrugging, you turn away from him, "Depends what business you're in."
"Oh? And what business are you in?"
"You really do talk a lot, don't you?" You laugh trying to avoid the topic.
Dally Let's out a sharp laugh, "He's not even started yet."
After a few minutes of quietly watching the movie, and watching Two-Bit disrupt the peace, Pony stands.
"This movie stinks, wanna do something else?"
Johnny nods and stands.
You shrug and follow them, Dally trailing behind. He won't stop bugging you, trying to get a rise out of you. You won't give him the satisfaction.
~
You walked with the boys for awhile before coming across a house. It's not the fanciest house, but it isn't too shabby.
"Who's house is this?"
Pony smiles and opens walks in, "Mine."
"Your brothers won't mind my coming here?" You ask, uncertain if you're breaching boundaries. It is pretty late.
"They won't mind," Dally assures, slipping past you into the house.
Two-Bit laughs and shoves you inside playfully, "Come on, girl! You take too long."
You roll your eyes but freeze when you discover three guys staring at you. One has a tattoo of a bird on his arm, another is drop-dead gorgeous, and the large intimidating one looks like he would be a great football player.
Tattoo boy and movie star are in the middle of a game of poker and the other one is in the midst of reading the paper.
Suddenly self-conscious, you wrap your arms around yourself and smile shyly. Lots of attention sometimes make you anxious.
"Ponyboy, who's this?" The handsomest one asks.
"Guys, this is Y/n Winchester. Y/n, this is Sodapop, Darry, and Steve."
You smile at each of them as they're named. They smile back for the most part, except for Darry. He seems to be more stoic.
You wave, "Nice to meet you."
"You play?" Soda asks, referring to poker.
"Yeah, all the time. My brothers taught me."
"Come play with us, let's see what you got," Steve invites.
Shrugging, you take a seat and they deal you in. Dally and Two-Bit join as well.
An hour later, and you've got them all beat.
They all seem a bit ticked that you won so easily. Of course, you had caught Soda trying to sneak an ace from his shoe.
"I won't take your money," you say, "I think taking your pride was enough of a reward."
Pony and Johnny laugh but shut up when Dally glares their way. He can be a real sore loser.
You notice the time and shake your head. It's already two in the morning. Dean's gonna kill you when you get back.
Tired, you yawn.
"You can crash here if you want," Darry offers. "It ain't safe to walk alone this time of night."
"I couldn't impose," you try protesting.
Soda smiles brilliantly, "Everyone else is staying anyways, you might as well too."
"Tempting, but Sam and Dean are probably worried sick."
"You can use the phone," Two suggests.
Heck, you forgot about the phone.
You sigh, "If you're sure it's okay..."
"'Course we're sure."
"Alright then," you give in and dial the number.
Dean picks up, "Hello?"
"Hey, Dean, it's me. Listen, I know it's late, but don't worry. I'm staying with some friends tonight so don't wait up."
"What?! No way-"
"Okay, great. See ya tomorrow, Deano!" You hang up before he can say anything else.
Pony had laid a blanket on the couch while you were on the phone. "Here you go, Y/n."
"Thanks," you smile before going to use the washroom.
After you're done, you plop on the couch and lie down, carefully positioning the gun so that it's out of sight.
Two-Bit is sitting on the floor quietly watching cartoons.
The sound of the tv and the boys' conversation lulls you to sleep.
~
You awaken to the smell of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and, oddly enough, chocolate cake?
Getting up, you go into the kitchen to find Darry cooking up a storm.
"Need help?" You offer.
He looks over his shoulder at you, "You can set the table if you want."
You nod and manage to find all the things to place on the table. By now, the others have all gotten up.
Breakfast goes by quickly.
"Wow, I haven't had a home cooked meal for a long time!" You exclaim as you help with the dishes.
"Really?"
"Yeah, we're on the road a lot, so we usually eat diner food. I actually can't remember when I last had a homemade meal," you frown at the realization. "Sam tries to get me to eat salad sometimes."
"Wow," Johnny says.
After everything is cleaned up, you say goodbye and leave. The walk to the motel is quiet after spending all that time with those rowdy boys.
"Where have you been?!" Dean yells as soon as you get to the motel.
You cross your arms, "I told you, I made some friends."
"We were worried sick!"
"I phoned," you fire back.
He sighs and shakes his head, "You're grounded!"
You laugh, "You can't ground me. Besides, don't act like a saint, you always snuck out when you were my age!"
"She's got a point," Sam comments, "But still, Y/n. You scared us."
"Sorry, I guess I could've called sooner."
"Damn right you could've!"
"Hey, I said sorry!"
Dean storms off in a fit so you turn to Sam, "Got a lead on the wolf?"
"Yeah, we tracked him to the East side of town to an abandoned house."
"Then, let's go. After I get dressed."
~
Sam drives the Impala slowly towards the scene of the crime. While he drives, you look out the window.
You see a familiar boy getting jumped by a bunch of older, richer, boys in an alley.
"Sam! Stop the car!"
He does as told and looks at you in irritation, "What?"
You leap out of the car and race to the alley, "Hey, stop!"
They're pressing Ponyboy into the ground and cutting his chin and neck with a switchblade.
They laugh at you, but stop when you pull out your gun. Pointing it at them, you hear Sam run up behind you.
The attackers make a quick getaway, cursing and stumbling in their haste. Out of nowhere, Dally, Darry, Two-Bit, Steve, and Soda appear, giving chase to the boys.
You holster you weapon and run to Pony's side, "You okay, Pony?"
He nods, but looks shaken and he's bleeding.
Soda and Darry run up, "They pull a blade on you?"
He nods in affirmation.
"Hey, they won't hurt you no more," Soda comforts his brother.
After everyone sees that Pony is alright, they turn their questions towards you.
"You've got a heater?" Daly seems surprised.
You nod, "Yeah, it's complicated."
Sam takes the opportunity to butt in, "Y/n?"
"Oh, guys this is my brother Sam," you introduce and then say each of the boys' names. "They're the friends I stayed with last night."
"Hi," Sam waves awkwardly.
They nod at him.
Dean walks up, so you repeat the introduction process all over again.
After everyone's acquainted, you depart and go to find the werewolf.
~
The werewolf turned out to be an easy kill, so you headed out to celebrate. Dally invites you to a party someplace while Soda and Steve challenge your brothers to poker. You respectfully decline Dally's offer and choose to hangout at the Curtis house.
Unbeknownst to Sam and Dean, you help Soda and Steve beat them in poker and watch in amusement as they begin arm wrestling to see who's strongest.
Darry gets up and challenges the winner, Dean, to an arm wrestle.
Dean loses with a sour expression as Darry chuckles.
You find Two-Bit trying to sneakily eat a whole cake, so you steal it from him and eat your fill as you watch Mickey Mouse with Pony, Johnny, and Two.
Everyone was really thankful that you helped Pony, so you're kind unofficially part of the gang now.
